I Tried EVERY Sushi in Japan 🍣 Inside Tokyo's Conveyor Belt Restaurants

Ойын-сауық

I tried eating over 50 plates of sushi at Sushiro in Tokyo - Japan’s top conveyor sushi chain at their flagship Tokyo restaurant.
THANKS to SUSHIRO for letting us in to eat all the sushi on the menu!

NOTIFICATION SQUAD: On a scale of 1 to face stuffing, this was quite the meal. In a weird way, it felt like actual research this time around as we discovered the most popular dishes on the menu. I can delude myself it was an educational experience... BUT WHAT is your favourite sushi on the menu? Let us know below!

Well it is extremely clear that is is just plain promotion with one of the presenters doing actual business promoting local stuff, "paid promotion" in the top left etc. I don't mind the business "collusion" it's done well and by Jove can mr. As many of you know, Sushiro has been going through a very difficult time in recent weeks. Some of the big Japanese youtubers have uploaded a similar video to help Sushiro. The title is something like, I want to help Sushiro. It is sad to see a very popular sushi restaurant disappear due to the foolish actions of one minor. As a Japanese, I thank you. Also, thank you for adding Japanese subtitles.

Since Sushiro is an affordable sushi chain, the dishes that children prefer tends to rank higher. Thus the cooked stuff such as boiled shrimp and sweet omelette, and/ or fishes that are most common such as salmon and tuna, will always feature in the top ten. Non conveyor belt restaurants would have a very different ranking.

I don’t want to make any judgement towards the Japanese, but for travelers, the likelihood of encountering a sushi plate that has been touched by a stupid prankster is incredibly low. The likelihood it would have any health consequences is impossibly low. Eating street food in most of Asia outside of Japan exposes you to vastly more pathogens and possible food poisoning than some TikTok idiot licking his fingers and touching sashimi. Likewise, much grosser things happen at much more frequent rates at fast food and buffet restaurants in the USA. These isolated incidents shouldn’t be a consideration whatsoever.

Sushiro used to be our go-to, but then we discovered Hamazushi, specifically their maguro peppered "steak", fried oysters, steamed savory custard and seasonal monkfish liver sushi, which is amazing. Hamazushi also has a wider variety of sauces; we're vinegar people so we prefer the yuzu ponzu from their selection. Sushiro still has the best tasting seafood salad and avocado rolls however and their wasabi is punchier.

This is what I thought about when I saw the bottle for soy sauce. I guess they want to help out the image of the conveyor sushi places which is good! People shouldn't let a few bad customers ruin conveyor sushi for them.

The timing of this video is interesting… Just a few weeks ago, there was a shocking incident where some jerks uploaded videos of themselves licking the soy sauce dispensers and just generally behaving in an unhygienic manner in another SushiRo restaurant. Initial public reaction was for people to freak out and stop going out for sushi (as much), but since then many others have been showing their support for the industry by eating going out for sushi even more - especially to SushiRo since they got hit the worst image-wise. So I’m wondering if the timing of this video is just coincidental, or are Chris and Ryotaro making a statement and Standing in Soidarity with Sushi?

There aren't many authentic Japanese/sushi restaurants near where I live, but I love negitoro and interestingly enough, once I ate a vegetarian cucumber sushi and it was actually really good. Looking forward to eating fresh sushi when I come to Japan, conveyer belt sushi has always intrigued me

Sushi is just the rice. It doesn't have to contain fish to be sushi. Therefore no need to say it's a "vegetarian take on sushi."

Hats off to the manager, standing there for the whole meal to tell us what's on the list. We have similar conveyer belt sushi places in soCal with little clear domes over the plates. I wonder if Sushiro normally does the same when not filming. Me, no matter what else I get I always get unagi and takoyaki (as a side dish) whenever I go out for sushi. Kind of surprised it didn't make the side dish list. Those desserts looks great too.

What a great video! Thanks Chris - and it's great to see Ryotaro again too. I love sushi, but there's still a heck of a lot of people living under the delusion that it automatically means raw fish (even when I tell them they're talking twaddle). We have a lovely sushi restaurant here in Sheffield and my favourite, although they seemed to have taken it off their menu now, is an inari that had fish eggs marinaded in yuzu juice, and soft shell crab uramaki. I haven't found any I don't like yet and I'm willing to try anything at least once.

What great timing! I've been living in Tokyo for about 5 months now, but I've been slowly welling up the courage to try sushi for the first time (coming from inland US, raw fish isn't something I've really had the strength to try). I also had no idea what to order or what kind of chain I could go to. It's really nice to get a display of what kind of options to expect, and even that there's alternatives like grilled salmon and hamburger if I need to fall back on something cooked to help work my way into eating more types of raw fish!
