I Tried Direct Heat Ribs on the Komodo Kamado and THIS Happened!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Direct heat is ribs, is something I have never tried before. Direct heat adds flavor from the fat dripping directly in the fire and is supposed to taste completely different. Let's find out!

I'm a fan of the grill flavor. I'll be making both pork and beef hanging ribs on the 4th. I'll use the Memphis Pit BBQ Rub on the porks, you turned me into a fan of that. I'll be cooking the hanging ribs to 150 F then I'll be holding them at 155 F for 20 hours. My first time experimenting in this manner. Hoping for the beef to taste like steak and be tender. Following by a finishing stage. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I would get a few hooks for a gateway drum smoker ditch the grate or go with that rack you sit on top of the top grate. Ive seen them invert it so its sitting right on firebox for high heat searing then you would have clearance for whole racks. Usually use two hooks per rib daisy chain them, you can have hook for each eye. Are we doing 🦆 ducks or 🐓 chickens next. Amazon has the 12 meat hooks for 12.99. Great Video I would think you would get more views due to the fact, your the only one doing videos on the komodo.

Yeah, I’ve got some testing to do. Next is a massive Tomahawk, but after that I did a pair of chickens. The hangers work great for that. 4 would be easy. I’ll check out the hooks thanks. 🍻

Run the hooked skewer through every other rib bone so they are like an s on the skewer. THEN put the pronged attachment on the bottom to hold the ribs onto the skewer. I think that is how it's meant to work! ;-)

  • @RumandCook

@@RumandCook It’s more something to decide what to but as I can’t afford it lmao. I have the models and accessories, quantities, prices, and a column to toggle whether I buy that item or not so I can see what the total is depending on which ones I decide to buy.

@praetorxyn personally I’d focus on the 32”. Skip accessories out of the gate. Those are easy to get later. It will last you a very long time so focus on getting the size you want first. 🍻

I have done a head to test between meatnbone and porter road. Porter Road tastes better to me because of their aging process. I noticed meatnbone wet ages and porter road dry ages. Both taste better than costco, sams club, and other chain store meat products.

  • @RumandCook

That depends on what cuts you buy. Meat n Bone has dry aged beef. It comes from the #1 dry ager in Chicago. I’m with you though, I prefer dry aged over wet aged. 🍻

Bet you wouldn't even have to hang them. Just try 'em on the top rack. Of course with the hanging apparatus you can probably cook a lot more of them at once.

I’ve hung ribs and chicken in several different cookers, trust me on this : chicken hangers are best reserved for chickens, order up some standard hanging hooks for doing ribs. I like the ones from OK Joe, they have good gauge and by double hooking them there’s less chance of feeding a rack to the fire. I had serious reservations at the start, I’m glad the cook worked out for ya. Using hooks I hook the rack down about 3, 4, or 5 down dependent on the headroom above the hanger, then add another where it’s hooking a rib or 2 below and hanging on the 1st hook.
