I think it's really important to get horses integrated into the herd as soon as possible so they can socialize more and be together so we can all work together to improve. In this video I introduce our quarter horse Roni to the mix and things didn't quite go as I expected... Overall though, I good session for everybody even though I had to step in a couple of times and calm things down.

Wow! Lots of action there! You're a brave dude, Graeme...very impressive, the way you move them around. They definitely know that you are the leader. I was surprised at Oscar chasing Miss with such intent! They'd already made friends... I think Roni instigated that mood. And she sees you as her boss and safety, so all that patient ground work pays off. I wonder why Roni is so intensely attached to Lena? Little Miss must have a strong presence, to cause so much agression from the others. Since you've taught us about the subtlety of horse communication, I could see lots of clear talking among them, fascinating.! What happened after you left? So just Yoka and The Firecracker left to go...get ready!

Her snorting is soooooooo cute 🥰 she’s all like “don’t mess with me!”

@@StableHorseTraining You can tell when someone speaks horse language, their horses are relaxed around them, you don't need to use treats or chase them to catch them because you speak their language and show kindness they will just follow your commands without having to a loud voice or worse a whip. A horses skin is 10 times more sensitive than human skin, you can tell that by how they twitch when a fly lands on them. Horses are extremely sensitive animals and people just don't seem to understand that. You don't need big bits and spurs for a horse to move because as you show in the video they will move with just external pressure. Like a dance. I am greatly enjoying your channel.
@StableHorseTraining

@@sandrastevens4418 Thank you very much Sandra :) I agree with all of that except the skin sensitivity part. I've really thought on this as I wonder why people use the phrase that a horse can feel a fly land on them, so can I though! I can feel a fly flying around me and setting down for half a second. Mosquitos, the worst for that! We catch them all the time, especially if they touch a hair. So I think that "maybe" they are more sensitive than us, but at the same time they don't seem to flinch much when another horse bites them, whereas I scream like a little girl if I get bitten :)
This was super interesting to watch. I have no experience with horses, but I'm pretty sure once you intervened, she recognised you as a safe space and that's why she kept sort of coming back to you, because she trusted you to step in if the boys kept bothering her too much. Thank you for sharing this moment with us. I hope they are getting alone better now ^-^

I find it fascinating that horses can sort out if they are being talked to or not
Well that was exciting! She can definitely hold her own - you can tell she has herd experience. Her snorts get me every time :) Also what you did (what you called interference) seemed warranted IMO and everything seemed to settle down finally.
My mare is so feisty and wants to be the boss but simultaneously the only one in the herd that doesn’t bully others. Like my other three horses just spend their days trying to figure out who is where and it’s been like that for years. My mare Lil is the only one they took a sniff of and were like, oh she is the one in charge. I haven’t seen any of them test her they just know the moment they met to stay out of her way.
The way she snorts loudly after you step in like "YEAH THAT'S RIGHT. YOU TELL EM." so cute 😊
You're so gentle to them, and the fact you talk to them and let them know what's going on, and letting them interact, but keeping them from going too far. I greatly appreciate how calm you are.

This was beutifull. ❤ I miss when I worked with horses, especially 1 year olds. They try to act like they are big strong independent wild horses but then something scary happens and they come running to you for protection. 😂
As regards her smaller size, she looks to me like a Connemara, or Connemara cross. For those that aren't familiar with this breed, they come/came from the west coast of Ireland and come in all shades of grey. Tough and hardy like the Icelandics!

Her snorts are the cuuuuutest!!!!!!! I love her so much. I wish the mare Roni was protecting could have had a chance to really get to know the new one. Luke is just, wow, was calm & gentle guy. But what impresses me the most is you. They listen to you, look to you for direction. And you have confidence & just, such an incredible presence. I've never seen such calm order from a human trainer/owner to his horses. Fear is so often what people use but I can tell you are kind & love these horses. This is my first time here but I'm gonna binge lol Also, when Mr. Wildie stopped & turned on a dime, wow!!!! I didn't know horses could do that. I watched that moment 10 times. Ok I know I'm going back to the very beginning so I have a lot of comments to reply to but I just had to start here. It's funny watching this video again as a devoted supporter & observer compared to when I saw this for the first time. But I still mean those words & appreciate you responding to my very first comment. I'm so sad that all this time I never knew. I remember feeling a little left out at first but understanding how incredibly busy you are, I didn't mind. But then hearing you make a point to mention me & the comments I pour my heart into. To know that they have been reaching you, it seriously means the world to me. I've listened to it so many times today. Lol 😅 I did figure out what was wrong & I'm so embarrassed. It's something so simple that I assumed was on but all these years I guess it wasn't. But I fixed it & now I'll know when you respond. And yes, I'm going to find & read & respond to all the responses I can find. So when I blow up your notifications I apologize in advance. You certainly don't need to respond to all or any. But out of appreciation & respect for the time you took to respond to my comments, it's something I really want to do. You're the best!
I love that little grey mare, what I'm seeing so far fits everything I enjoy in a horse, with a small compact build but great energy and beautiful moves, and a gentle eye. Even in this situation when she must make friends with a new heard, she remains gentle and seems very smart with a good sense for quick decisions. She gives me the impression of a very reliable horse.
Very interesting , the interaction of your horses. Also, the fact that they are so different in personality. I enjoy your explanation of the action and that you tried to affect their actions without interfering. They will sort it out and become a fine little herd. Does the fact that there is an uneven number of horses affect the dynamics, I wonder?

She wowed them as soon as they saw her effortless gait. "I may be running away but it's more my choice than yours. You wish you had my coordination and grace." Maybe it's showing she can bring that benefit to the herd. She may have excelled in hoof-eye coordination the way her head stays so stable while her body quickly moves? You did a great job helping her, as others have said. I agree. Whenever we had a new horse, we would put them in a paddock adjacent to the herd for a couple of weeks. That way, they could all sort out their pecking order safely. Once they were all settled in with each other and there was no danger, then we'd let the new horse in with the others and all would go smoothly. Personally, I would never put a new horse in with a herd in such a small area. Somebody could well get hurt. That said, you did a great job protecting her. IMO
