    Though she has the build, gait, and speed for a flyer, Gracie apparently does not - presently - have the mindset of a jumper. If she did, Gracie would not be confined by the arena fence. I am waiting for the day she takes off on one of her runs, and sails over the arena fence at one of the single rail points. The best jumper we had when I was young and competing, we found when it became a regular occurence to find him on the outside of the pasture fencing. He decided the grass was greener on the other side - where the other horses were not feeding and cropping, and over he would go, leaving the rest of the herd behind. I have no doubts there were many times when we didn't catch him, as he let himself back into pasture the same way. No interest in wandering off, he just wanted that delicious, untouched grass........ I'm repeating myself, and am aware if it. But, the real mystery is Luke. You've never said how long ago he was gelded, but Luke often acts as if it was so recent that he's not aware of it, yet [and by 'recent,' I mean under 1 year by at least a few months]. Even stranger, the mares often react to Luke as if they aren't to totally oblivious to the fact he's gelded, which they should know immediately due to Luke's lack of pheromones. It would be enough to drive a breeder to distraction! And no, I was not a breeder, just someone raised on a breeding farm which was a family business - I'd love to go back 60 years to have a conversation with my grandfather to get his 70 years of accumulated knowledge and opinions as to what is going on..... Oh, and I'm firmly with those who hold the opinion that horses can be right dominant or left dominant, the same way humans are right or left handed. I've never heard a reason which fully convinced me how it's determined, though heredity seems to be the best bet, as with other vertebrates, but I heard that opinion demolished by a professor as a biology undergrad almost 50 years ago [the factoids that I never used in my work career still tend to be those I remember clearest, though the Master's I used professionally for 45 years continues to fade away]

  • @StableHorseTraining

    @StableHorseTraining

    5 жыл бұрын

    I'm not sure when she'll jump the fence either... hopefully never! As for Luke, he's been gelding for a long time, probably by the age of 2. I agree on horses having a dominant side. Sometimes I wonder though if it's influenced by humans...

    Yes, it's washed sand to get out the river silt. Yes, just dumped it straight in the arena. I spread some of it with the excavator I rented and the horses have done the rest. Not sure how many yards it was, it's measured by weight when they do it by dump truck. Can't recall that either...

    How does Ruly and Springer get along just the two together for playtime? Lot of fun to watch them all together. Makes me wonder why the boys choose easy mares to be with? Those that are totally opposite of Gracie. 😂 Wonder if they weren’t gelded would there be more a stand taken by Roni to claim her from Luke as Gracie seems always on the fringe of both couples. Gracie and Roni looking really in shape since you’ve been training them more. 👍🏻

When I worked at a large riding stable as a groom (I've spent a lot of time around horses which of course is why when I miss them I look at videos like yours :) they had massage and acupuncture etc so I know that there is a diversity of treatments, was wondering if you have come across anything like red light therapy and what your experience might be..

    Exercises they cannot do without disobeying you. Playing with barrels, competition, horse stuff. Their time. The heart ❤, the will, the way is exactly why they play with each other and not you. Big, dangerous, children. They love you, that's why they play and fight together, kick, stomp, snort, roll, kicks , flying tails, the beauty of horse. I can't say it right, they very heart and soul and strength they are blessed 🙏 with. Very few, and you are one that knows it,, sees, changes it with your own self. Your horses, and people are thriving. Always good to know. Beautiful all the way around.

    Oh boy! A friend to play with! Yay!!! Fat and Happy horses! They are in good shape! That sorrel mare, (Gracie?), will be in full heat in nothing flat. A day or two is all she needs, but each mare is different. When she starts squealing she is in full. Hope you have a well bred stud picked out for her to settle her, or your other horses will sure be fired up for awhile. She is presenting, I can remember our brood mares acting the same way in the Spring. We called it, "horsing". Your horses are not as hot blooded as ours were. The older roping horses, geldings, would go half nuts, had you turned them out with a horsing mare like that! You'd think they were teenagers! Haha! We raised working and running (racing), Quarter Horses for over 40 years. My dad and I argued all winter about stallions, their pedigree's, and this year's colts and which mare would have the best ones. Most of them were yearling or 3 yr olds when we sold the geldings. Most were sold to ropers and bulldoggers on the PRCA Circuit. A couple made their ways to the Finals which really pleased us. I sure do miss dad and them horses. I figure there's a couple of my favorites awaiting my return to Paradise. Thinking my dad is up there taking care of them for me, along with his roping horse. We had Joe Hancock and Chicaro (foundation) AQHA based lineage. Blue and Strawberry Roans and Dunn colored colts. Now, I'm almost 70 yrs old and pretty crippled up. Our horses are most likely all gone, but I can pick out that Hancock head and conformation, anywhere! Haven't laid my hands on a horse for a couple decades though... Well, just happened to see this and thought I'd drop in and say, "Hi!" Enjoyed watching your video of the horses. Thanks for posting them, took me back to a much nicer and happier time. God bless all of you!

    The world has far too many horses and far too many breeders and back yard breeders as it is to have a horse for the purpose of beauty, or at all really. There are already too many beautiful horses out there being slaughtered and abused, I'd rather help them than consider the idea of bringing another animal to the planet.
