Always wanted to check out this old gym . Maybe I will when I am off on vacation next time . very cool vibe , In the 1980'S an Oliphant competed in some OABBA events , actually had a great physique.
The old gym reminds me of my old high school gym back in the day. It was this small rusty gym with cage walls attached to the side of an equally old concrete basketball court. Most of the equipment were more than 20 years old and It was always surprising to me how they never broke despite being super rusty and shaky. I definitely enjoy the modern machines and other gym features that helps with convenience and isolation but fun-wise I definitely had way more fun in that small old gym. Something about utilizing the entire court like bleachers and etc. combined with old equipment to form different workouts was so enjoyable.
@jolonghthong5377

same! my highschool gym was small, rusty dumbbells and bars, old equipment our coaches scavenged somewhere . nothing else to do there but lift the damn weight and sweat and bleed. id always leave the gym with rust on my hands, sweat through my clothes and a smile cause that place was pushing metal and that was it
I really love the simplicity of the old gym. Zero distractions from food, ads and other companies. Just weights and nothing else. Love it!
Can we all please take a moment to appreciate that seamless pull-up transition at the end. Will has transcended into proper visual story telling. "It's not the space, it's the work you put in".

This is so cool seeing the old gym, it's a reminder of how many people have contributed to the amazing kit and development of fitness that we have now. So interesting to see what they used back in the day!
The old gym is like a garage gym for people on a tight budget. I would actually work out there because its not intimidating and you will get a very good work out as well. Its nice to have all the newer machines and dumbells and stuff but you still need to do the basics to get strong and ripped.

While I can certainly appreciate the nostalgia trip offered by the old gym, there are local/chain gyms (ex. XSport Fitness) that offer most of what the expensive gym offers (all brand new equipment from Hammer Strength, Life Fitness, Technogym, Hoist, Precor, etc.) for $30-40 per month. I would never go for a monthly membership at the oldest gym, but I would definitely pay the inflation-adjusted price for a daily trip back in time a few times a month or year, just to remind myself of how/where it all started. I don't get the hate on Technogym either. It's great stuff and integrates well into a "modern gym" for the "modern lifter." I believe you can even trick them out with LCD screens that keep track of the weight, rep count, rep tempo, etc. Same with Hoist, which I never encountered until they remodeled my current gym. Their machines are an entirely new thing IMO, especially the RS-1101 seated dip. Such a comfortable ROM.

I agree man, the gym I go to is literally inside a basement and all the plates are pure iron, there's like rubber on a few select workout machines but that's it. The place is so crappy and totally in need of repairs, I accidentally stepped on something I wasn't supposed to and it like my foot fell through into a water drain or something like that. The owner was cool so I didn't get charged. Anyway the main reason I go, aside from it being cheap as all hell, is that it's straightforward and it has a real sense of community, I know everyone who goes there and everyone who goes is chill and it's a consistent cast of guys every day who go there to workout, chat a bit, go home it's awesome. There's also a bakery that opened right by it that serves some of the worst treats ever but if you're an energy starved lifter, shitty pudding goes hard.
Just wanted to point out that the new gym has a monthly membership fee of $142, thats the lowered christams price at the lowest memebership level. At the best membership the usuall price is $280 per month + a $300 starting fee. Thats insane.

I like how Will just utilizes the environment around him regardless of the trendiness of the equipment. He seemed just as pleased to be lifting spare train parts as he did using that sexy preacher curl.

The new gym looks fancy as heaven. I would love to visit it. However, the old school gym has the advantage of forcing gym goers to push harder. Will’s videos hit just right everytime 😂
12:12 yeah TechnoGym looks cool and clean inside of the gym, but at the gym I work at, the issue is maintenance. TechnoGym is consistently the least durable brand at the gym. Parts are constantly having to be replaced and there is regular “preventive maintenance” for them. Personally, I prefer Hammer Strength anyways.

Loved the wooden racks for all the dumbells and bar bells. You could make a whole modern gym with wooden racks like that, it'd be pretty nice.
In my parents' little country town there is small gym that reeks 90s bodybuilding. The place is probably 1000 square feet with a 10-feet-high roof, an uneven floor and an insane amount of machines cramed into such a little space. To this day it's the best gym I've ever been to and the one where I made the most progress.
A 2 minute walk from my house there used to be woodstreet gym, that was just like the first gym in this vid. I loved that place I trained there from 15 to 19, no messing about not a treadmill in sight just massive old school weights and some monster strong dudes in there. All of which couldn't do enough to help you, I'd bench say 1 plate a side and they'd say we'll done give some tips and then do 3 a side for reps. I was sad to hear it when it closed.

The oldest continuously running gym in America is the Cincinnati Gymnasium and Athletic Club (open since 1903)! You should check it out sometime, it’s by far the strangest gym I’ve ever seen.
I love both types of gyms. You never know what you're going to find that may bring you a new result. I love finding equipment that I've never used before. New gyms can be especially exciting for that reason. Old gyms can be cool like that too. You never know what lost in time miracle (or bullshit) equipment you'll find. I also love the gyms that are falling apart. They can be a great adventure in themselves. I used to go to a gashouse pit where I would check the squat rack for stability. If it wobbled too much, I brought in my toolbox and tightened all of the supports before I started lifting. They actually waived my gym dues for the last ten months they were open. They thought it was awesome that a member cared about their equipment that much. I went to another place where I always kept hex keys for the dumbbells, and after a while other members knew to come to me when they were loose. Places like that a lot of fun.
16:26 That Antibirth OST caught be SO off guard what the hell. Really grea taste in music, props to the editor!

Just found your channel about a month ago and for some unknown reason it got me motivated to work out and eat nutritious again. Due to my crazy metabolism i dropped back to ~143 lbs within a couple years, now im already back at 162 lbs! Just wanna let you know you're unique Will, nothing else motivated me to get my ass up for a really long time like your content does.

Be grateful u have a crazy metabolism. Lots of people struggle with the metabolism issue and it sucks when doing a cut.

@@fuadahmed6060 nah it sucks. Went from 105 to 135 bulking hard, decided to chill a bit and not stuff my face with food all day and dropped back down to 125 in a few months.

@@Jc-go3mz I would take a lean frame any day of the week over a chubby one with a gut sticking out.

I killed my metabolism 2 years back by going from 290 pounds to 164 in like 5 months of starvation. And I gained back 50 pounds bcoz I was craving a lot of shit after I lost all that weight without going to the gym. Btw I looked like a grandma with saggy skin everywhere. Now I have learnt the hard way, been going to the gym doing weight for a year with cardio and some boxing training. I came down to around 190 pounds but look way better than before.
This oddly reminds me of the movie trope: Underdog trains with what he has, and all he has is barely the basics and has to work twice as hard. Meanwhile the antagonistic has the state of the art, best of the best money can buy, ultimately workout equipment that's been calibrated to a percent of a percent margin of error. I'm thinking movies like the Rocky series(Rocky 5 comes to mind), Cars 3, Karate Kid, stuff like that
11:16 that is an Uppercut heavybag, it's used to throw uppercuts because the traditional heavybag (like the one in the old gym) doesn't have the round belly to throw uppercuts and looping body shots into, if anyone's wondering.
With regards to Techno Gym, I think their plate-loaded machines are much better than their weight stack machines, and I even prefer them in a lot of cases to their equivalent in Hammer Strength plate loaded. Their incline press and overhead press are wonderful.
Sat here feeling like a Tennyson fanboy and don't even care lol. Love the content as always! For sure the best, most wholesome fitness youtuber out there!
That old gym reminds me of my schools weight room. It's literally just a bunch of weights, a couple of machines that barely work and a pull-up bar. Equally dated, also has old pictures of bodybuilders (although they're from the Golden Age probably).
I’ll literally binge watch your videos 😂💪🏽 I’ll gain muscle mass by just watching, it feels
