Tbh, this is one of the few rules pastas where the rules actually made legitimate sense in the context, rather than being a bunch of seemingly random, weird, arbitrary stuff. Any soldier can tell you the importance of light discipline in a hostile environment. Even the glowing ember of a lit cigarette can give your position away in the dark, though the smell of the smoke can, too, to a lesser degree. Sound, as well, obviously. And bolting when faced with a predator of one of the worst things that you can possibly do, as it sets off their prey drive. They're instinctively wired to pursue fleeing prey. Protagonist got lucky because plot armor, though his neighbors were less fortunate. Glad that Tango made it.

Showing your back to some predators is just as bad though. If any big cat sees you do it, their view of you immediately switches to prey. It would have made more sense if the rule was to freeze in place rather than ignore and keep walking.

I always like to picture that instead of the creature killing the Maltese dog, it just killed a deer for it and the dog to eat. The dog also happened to be shedding its fur. Like monsters might need pets too.

It’s actually a wendigo tale. Wendigos feed on fear, so it made sense why you shouldn’t look at them, and ignore them. They also have a very keen sense of smell and hearing. They are creatures from Native American folklore.

Here is a crazy theory, the lady that owned the camping grounds is the Skinwalker/Wendigo, I mean, the situation would be ideal for such a creature, make up the rules to seem that you are protecting the campers and then you can eat the idiots that broke them and you have the advantage that your camp won't get the reputation that people simply get mauled in the daylight by unknown creatures there. Besides, doesn't seems like the creature was trying to entice the campers to brake the rules? Making noise to try to lure the them outside at night, walking behind them to make them to turn around and maybe turn a light on, pretending to try and enter the tents for the same reason, and besides how did the lady knew what the guy did the previous night, in detail, since I assume she should be bound by the same rules, if she were human?

Not only did the Native Americans have to be built different to take down the buffalo with the tools they had available, but they also have plenty of ways to have the same reason or effect from these myths then going into fiction. They can say that there's a pack of wolves that he's chasing the group and scares away the buffalo and therefore they must chase down the buffalo, this can keep the tribe together, and a animal that can smell your lies and it does not like it is a good thing for honesty, the windigo has no moral or teaching, the Sasquatch is to leave people alone if they leave you alone and to treat others the same way even if they are different. Albino animals exist and they can use this for the sasquatch, the shape-shifting from the windigo honestly could be explained by a virus in some kind of meat, the skinwalker has no moral or teaching and that bad boy can shapeshift by having a bunch of cells make it and these cells sort of wrap around each other with tiny little protrusions that can bend and use electricity to change shape and wrap around other protrusions like the flagellum. Or they could just have various protein sections stick together, and then have certain chemicals go to certain regions of the body to either make more connections or destroy previous connections and is therefore able to shape shift. They also literally lived in the woods, and the British were really good at colonizing land if we go by their track record. But yet the people coming over still struggled a lot. And the sasquatch, there are people that are born with a rare quote evolutionary back step end quote and this can cause people to have their bodies covered in hair. That right there is a thing that can explain the Rarity of a very hairy human, and still get the moral of treating people no differently due to them being different, you leave the Sasquatch alone and it leaves you alone. Be careful as all stories start with truth, and the human mind can only remix old ideas, experiences, and everything else cataloged in the hippocampus to then remix it in an idea that we call new. And this is why a certain indigenous people thought that a bunch of floating houses Unleashed to Legion of deer men upon them.
