Tommy is a national treasure.

Originally sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson, it later became one of Dion's most famous songs. In Swedish, it was sung by Sofia Källgren and Tommy Körberg, who both provided the voices for the main roles in the film's Swedish dubbing.

Tommy never sings his heart out in rehearsal, that's why she was surprised. He is a national treasure in Sweden and from my hometown Ronneby :)

Fun fact: They competed against each other in Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 when Tommy competed for Sweden and Celine competed (and won) for Switzerland. This video was recorded in the early to mid 90's since the movie came out in 1992

Tommy himself said it was because he held back at rehearsals to save for the actual night but some people think the face was due to irritation because he was going off and not sticking to how the song “should” sound, making it a “competition”(before trying to save face with a smile) Which never really made any sense to me because if you actually listen to the official version(both the English and Swedish the male tones are the same while the female ones are slightly different) then you can clearly hear all of the riffs and runs that Tommy does here are present in both those versions. 🤷‍♀️

Tommy has told that story several times. Celine had been sullen and reserved all day, so he gave her a rose to cheer her up. She didn't even want to sing with Tommy because she thought he sucked, as he didn't bother to make an effort during the rehearsal

There used to be a bar in Sweden that a number of legendary Swedes used just for jamming with their very informal blues band once a week. So I often had the pleasure of hearing him live (together with people that only Swedes will know like Louise Hoffsten, Mats Ronander and others).

I think when Tommy started singing for real, Celine was very surprised that he wasn't just some hick from Sweden, but someone that is her equal and she could actually enjoy singing with him.

Yes, we have several ways of pronunce "K" in Sweden. In this case it's a soft like "sch"... Like making someone shut up. And Celine is really shutted up.

The original was sung by Celine Dion & Peabo Bryson while Tommy Körberg did the male voice in the swedish dub of the song. I think this performance was around the time the movie came out in the theaters here in sweden to do some kinda of commercial for it, but I could be wrong about that. The two of them also competed against eachother in eurovision 1988, sadly Tommy wasn’t able to do that competition at his best since he was sick, if you find a clip from the swedish melodifestival 1988 with him & compare it to a clip from eurovision that year you can hear the difference in how he sings the song. I don’t know why he didn’t sing his full potential in practis for this performance, there is many different stories about it. Some say he tried to rest his voice other say he wanted to put Celine in her place because she behaved like a diva other say that this was him acting like a diva, either way it was a great performance from both of them.
