Love this!! It’s so funny to hear Tommy tell the story behind this 😂 Apparently Celine behaved like a diva on rehearsels. He held back saving his voice and the rest is history. A really funny one!! Love that he ”told her off” in that classy way.

I asked Tommy about this in an event and this exactly what happend. You can see her look and his snug face. Priceless!

There is a story behind! Seline looks surprised and somewhat..? Because! When they practised Körberg did not sing properly and was dressed cashual. He just acted an everige guy that was impressed :) SO.. he surprised her, and perhaps she did not like not being the only "star" on stage :)

I heard Tommy sing " the winner takes it all " ....this guy is a beast with regards to singing ...

What hasn't been said already is also that they competed against each other in the Eurovision Song Contest 4 years earlier with Celine ending up winning the contest and became a huge star over night. Körberg was at the time a pretty well known guy who had competed earlier and been seen on both West End and Broadway in "Chess" as the leading role. He had planned the thing with the rose in advance as he wanted to do a fun little prank on Celine. It is however a well known thing for Tommy to hold back during rehearsal and he often comes late for sound check resulting in him guiding the sound engineer throughout the first couple of songs on set. I've worked with him a couple of times as a sound engineer during small shows and he really knows what he wants!

From what I heard Tommy really held back at the rehearsal of this, so Celine (who was obviously way more famous than him) was kind of taken by surprise that she was being upstaged by this random swede lol.

She was SURPRISED and impressed💕

This was interesting because couldn't you say they were somewhat at the same point in their careers. And what I find interesting is how different their careers became. Sure Tommy isn't really a pop singer and he made it pretty big with Chess also he is Swedish which I would say was a disadvantage then especially since media and music wasn't as available to the whole world as it is today. So seeing them in this stage of their career at the same stage and fast forward some decades and Celine became one of the biggest and best selling female singers of all time, correct me if I am way off. And Tommy became a big star in Sweden and Europe especially with the Chess musical. Both big in their own rights.

Damn, as a Swede I have grown up with Tommy but did not know he was that old really. In 1969 my mom was three years old. Damn. Before he dies I just hope that he makes new renditions of all old Jussi Björling songs like "Land du välsignade". Not that they have the same pitch but Tommy is a living legend and it would've been really cool. "Till havs" is another one that I'd love to hear him sing.

Not sure if its been said earlier, but the story from Tommy is that he purposely held back and half assed it during rehearsals, and the look from her is from him letting it all go and improvising a bit and showing off, something she never heard in rehearsals....

That “show off” part is part of the song so I’m always so confused why she’d be surprised that he sung it. There’s a rumor going around that he didn’t really go all out on rehearsals,which he is known to do(saving his voice for the preformance and all that), but still.

Yeah, that's what I have heard too. He knew she wasn't pleased at all during the rehearsal, so he pranked her, and when she realized that she took it with a laugh. But for a second or two she was not only surprised, she thought he had held back to show off, "beating" her singing. Tommy's charm disarmed her though.😆🌹

@@Jespher1 The song??? I have never mentioned the SONG per se. All I know about is that moment, when Celine sensed a competitive act from Tommy. I couldn't care less about the lyrics. If he timed it to a part of the lyrics or not doesn't interest me much. Sorry.

It’s only done that way in the swedish version.

He did the swedish voice to the Beast. And i guess that is all she knew. So when he just sang it throguh without using all his voice. Belike she think, who is this guy? "why did he make the sweidish voice to the beast" and then... Back story: Tommy was having a cold and hold back during rehearsals. Celine was not impressed. When this was shot he used his full register and that’s why her reaction.

Her first reaction i think was Tommy going "off script", The second was just his voice. Don't know if she even knew who he really is at that point. Remember reading that Körberg sung it a bit different during the rehersal.

Hi! I like your channel, your content and you .... but why is the image you react to so compressed? It looks even weirder when the clip is subtitled. Is there anything that can be done about it? Another good thing is if the volume of your microphone is not higher than the volume of the clip. Better if the music is louder than the other way around. Several times I have turned up the volume to hear the music and then when you start talking it becomes very loud. Otherwise, I only have good things to say about what you do.

English speakers add a "t" sound in front of "ch", so spelling it "churberg" makes it sounds like "tshörberg" for Swedish speakers. "church" is pronounced "tchörtch", for example.

She is 24 year here and Tommy is 44 year ….

He has such a more powerful voice than her, tbh, since she sings mostly nasally (upper body/face) and he sings from the gut/stomach. Still I find it amazing she can muster all those vocals from such a small space compared to his/others. I might be wrong re tech, but why would she sound so nasal otherwise?

The “funny” thing all people call it. It’s just a little gesture for fun, cause she didn’t knew he was going to do so good. She just went happy he showed a bit of himself. Personally I don’t think it’s suits the song at this moment, it’s a little bit show off and the song is supposed to be a little more emotional and sweet I might say. Of course the part is going that way but for me he is doing a little bit much to that song here which doesn’t really suits it. My opinion. Anyhow since then she can blow anyone away and still does. She just keeps getting better and better with age . What a rare Diamond she truly is. Tommy always good also.

But that part is there (note for note)in the soundtrack tho so even if it doesn’t fit it was intended to be there🤷‍♀️ it would be weird if he skipped(dodged) it …

@@cendriia3738 not what I meant exactly , it would have been a little bit better feeling if the song just stayed soft as it is in the original, it just feels a bit pushed and showing off at that moment. You start to think there’s a competition suddenly almost which it isn’t supposed to do. 😌🤗

The truth is that you can´t out-sing Tommy. He has a gift 👍❤Celin is a wonderful singer too. But not that gifted.
