You can make a pine needle tea to drink for health also. You just have to make sure it's a safe pine for consumption.

I am learning much by these gardening techniques. There is a season for everything. Its God's timing. Its perked me up no end. Its explains the whom, what, how and favourable things can work out. So no more sickness. This will certainly help my green fingers in the garden. Which I must take care of especially in this season.

I wouldn't use it on tomatoes. They have different requirements. I found banana peels with powdered eggshells best for tomatoes, once they start to flower.

Acidic loving plants. The best all rounder are nettles, as they have e everything. Rather than nettle tea, however, I make nettle liquor. It smells less than any other concoction made from plants, is concentrated, so takes up less storage space and just needs diluted with water.

By top dressing do you mean spray plants leaves? Or are you referring to watering plants? Is it recommended for all plants?

Top dressing is removing a portion of the current soil from the pot, planter or bed from the top, as the name suggests, and adding fresh or rejuvenated soil to replace it.

Conifers & oaks are allelopathic, meaning they kill competing plants but the process of boiling them & letting them brew must change the properties they exude.

The sun, which will come as a surprise to you, is very good at killing off some of the nasties found in water, something our ancestors discovered way back when. If you don't know what your local authority add to the water supplies, then you don't know what you're giving the plants. If you collect rainwater it's always best to let it rain for ten minutes, at least, as all kinds of things take to the air, through disturbance, evaporation, etc. The ten minutes will allow the rain to disperse the heavier droplets that contain contaminants already, but take on more, as they fall through the air. The bonus is it also rinses off any contaminants from your water collection system, leaving you with cleaner water for your thirsty little green or other coloured friends.
