Baking Soda Pesticide and Fungicide Spray

Baking Soda Has Many Uses.....how about as a pesticide? Or maybe a fungicide? Today, let's look at how to use Baking Soda, or Sodium Bicarbonate, in the garden for an effective treatment against aphids, whiteflies, thrips, caterpillars, spider mites as well as prevention of fungal outbreaks such as powdery mildew.
There are a few caveats (of course), but as always, we'll cover it all and let you make the most informed choice for your garden! And don't forget to spray a test leaf first to ensure no phytotoxicity!

    Looking to grow your first vegetable garden? Or maybe you’ve given it a try in the past and didn’t enjoy the success you thought you would? Well, I designed a self-paced online gardening course just for you! 12 core chapters of a video-based program that will take you from complete beginner to garden master without having to sift through hours and hours of KZread content. Videos that barely contain the relevant information you need to get started focusing on garden tours and channel updates rather than useful insight. With Vegetable Gardening Basics, we’ve changed all that and synthesized all the information I’ve learned over my 30 plus years of growing food down to all the key pieces of the puzzle to unlock your growing potential. Every basic skill, technique, tip, trick, you name it, its all here. A 150+ page high resolution PDF guidebook is also included to help reinforce and guide you along the way, making the learning and absorbing of the material even easier. Lifetime access is included, including any updates or extra content. The first batch of enrollment is now live, secure your spot today! courses.theripetomatofarms.ca/courses/vegetable-gardening-basics

    My father was an organic farmer back in the 60's on a 7 acre farm in the burbs in NJ . Which people came from all around to get veggies and we even had Restaruants buy from us . Bug control was our chickens . Fertilizer was always aged manure and water came from rain barrels that we put bags in to make manure tea to spray in the gardens .We did the picking and planting and in the winter mom and I would make seed pots from newspapers Our equipment was wheelbarrows and rototillers and our hands and backs

    Just a tip for anyone who does this, find out the perfect time on your garden to spray this. Spray during evening so that your plants have time to absorb it. Also do not overspray, if you do it will cause the leaves to slightly burn, don’t be alarmed it’s not terrible, but just avoid it. Also, this spray does work!!

    @@dlspeed1 we use DE (diatomaceous earth) for ants, its organic and you can get 50 pound bags at livestock feed stores way cheaper per pound than the little 5 pounds bags in the fancy organic gardening stores. It's a fine powder, so don't breathe it in and don't let your dogs of cats sniff it as it should not get in the lungs, but it's actually edible. It was once used on a very broad scale to prevent infestation of our grain supply here in the US by placing it directly in the grain (you know, back when the government cared enough to make sure we had at least a 7 year supply on hand in case of emergencies), since then it has fallen out of use, which is sad since its very effective and safe to use. It actually cuts into the bodies of harder bodied pests and cuts open their exoskeletons and causes them to dehydrate and die. We place it around the perimeter of the house and directly on plants. Make sure it's going to stay sunny for a couple of days, since once this is wet it's not effective. Hope this helps :) God bless!

    Hello, I used sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) for a long time to fight powdery mildew and insects, but after reading that the salt it contained was bad for plants, I stopped and I switched to potassium bicarbonate. It has the same effect, and you use it in the same dosage as baking soda.

    Jeff I have an apple tree which was planted last fall. The other two are doing wonderful. They are getting leaves and looking healthy. This one has not one leaf. the branches and the main stalk are alive still. They have color and they bend comfortable. Not dry or brittle. Do you have any ideas what it could be? Do you think it has a fungus or bacteria problem? Will baking soda help?

    Your channel is one of my favorites on youtube! I have tried dish soap and water to help against pests, but it never really worked for me. I am going to try your recipe! If you had an affiliate link to the castile soap, I would have used it. This will be a first for me LOL! I've never even heard of castile soap before, but I ordered some just now because I trust what you say! I have an aphid issue on my roses recently, so I hope this will help! Also hoping to do some preventative spraying on my strawberries! Anyway, thanks for the content!

  • @annking1576

    @annking1576

    @smultanwala. There's no such thing as strengthening a plant's "immunity". Monitor plants & apply spray when needed. Constant watering with a baking soda mixture will put salt in the soil & eventually harm your plants.
