I had 6 cherry tomato plants in a raised bed last year and I harvested over 1,800 cherry tomatoes. This year I have one grape cherry tomato plant in an 18” pot, now it has produced hundreds of flowers and many fruits. The first a few near the bottom just start to turn red yesterday. You need to have the plant in the open where wind and insects can get to them. I have quite some bumblebees in my garden. And the pot is also at a windy spot.

A little bit of coffee everyday in the morning helps tomato plants stay healthy and strong. You may also add little bit of buttermilk in the evening. Plants also need fruits and vegetables in the form of compost. Don't forget to include some protein source as well. Plants have protein. At night make sure they are in a quiet area. Some music in the evening will also help. Treat plants like humans and you will see good results.

My tomatoes are dropping their blossoms as we speak, they climb higher and get more flowers next thing you know the flowers bend down then dry up and fall off. I'm in zone 8 or 9, Gainesville, FL. I've got a soaker hose on them a couple of hours a day some are 6ft tall, not one damn tomato. I bought blossom set to force them to produce, but nothing...I talk to them, jk, and recently I've just about given up and cried over all of my efforts.

We’re in MO and ours were dropping flowers too. But that’s from the heat. Sometimes if you over water, they grow leaves instead of fruit. Talk to other gardeners in your area to see if they’re having similar issues. It will help you nail down the problem.

I'm right outside Tallahassee. I too am struggling this year. Last year my tomatoes were in partial shade and they did the best I've seen since I started. This year, a new location and the same problem you're having. We are in a Grand Solar Minimum. Looking at another I think 6 years 😪. The sun is much stronger and more radiation is coming into our atmosphere. This year is a good test of what problems we might see and what we should do in the future the help lesson them. I have some tomatoes in buckets which I'm going to move to the backyard which is shadier. I'll see how that goes. On the bright side, the squash ( the ones but affected by Vine borers) have done well and this is the first time I've been able to get sugar baby melons to bear fruit. Ahhh, gardening, you won some you lose some. 🙏 And blessings fire your garden. Don't give up! Just learn 😘

First establish if the area has a history of boron deficiency by either talking to other growers or experts such as university advisory staff. Boron top dressing is only applicable if you have a boron deficiency. Too much boron is also as bad as not enough. Boron deficiency might be expected if soils are very sandy and don’t hold water and nutrients well, the top of the plants start to die when all other nutrients are available and a lot of crops have been harvested before, thereby removing the boron. Not something to play with unless there is a clearly defined problem. Robots are annoying.

Boron is an essential mineral for many plants. In the human body, it regulates the parathyroid gland which regulates calcium. Without enough boron, you can get bone spurs, calcium deposits in soft tissue like hardening of a woman's breasts or calcium deposits in arteries. Tomatoes without enough calcium get blossom end rot. I use 20 Mule Team Borax to fertilize tomatoes and peppers. For human consumption, purified Boro Tabs are available from Hakala Labs, although some people just use a small amount of Borax taken orally. It takes pounds to be toxic.

Test your soil first!!!! Only use boric acid (or borax) if your soil is boron deficient. Same with using Epsom salt to add magnesium. Test first!!! "Borax is the common name for the chemical compound sodium tetraborate decahydrate, which contains sodium, boron, water and oxygen. Because this compound is produced as a natural residue from the repeated evaporation of seasonal lakes, it is suitable for the organic garden. Even though boron and borax are organic substances, this does not imply that their misuse is harmless to your plants. It simply means that they occur in nature instead of being chemically synthesized in a laboratory... California is home to one of the world’s largest borax deposits from which 20 Mule Team Borax is manufactured. This product is packaged in its pure form, with no chemical additives. The only processing it receives after its removal from the ground is washing, drying and packaging. The company claims its product is 99.5 percent pure, with the remaining 1/2 of 1 percent containing naturally occurring trace minerals. The use of the product in the garden is considered organic because it eschews synthetic chemicals by using naturally occurring substances that are minimally processed." homeguides.sfgate.com/role-20-mule-team-borax-organic-gardening-74730.html
