I loved this book from start to finish. Carrie is a brash, blunt character, yes, but that’s part of what drew me to her. I don’t have to connect with a character or even like them to enjoy a book but I understood what she was trying to accomplish and her drive to get there was admirable. Coming back from retirement, clawing her way through matches with younger, fitter, faster opponents? The once greatest player in the world now an underdog? What a premise. I loved it.

So happy you loved the book! Her drive for another glam slam title was indeed very inspiring 👌🏻

Controversial Opinion: I thought this book was amazing and it had me hooked immediately. I loved the father/daughter story, but the best part was the timeliness of the release/my read. I was able to listen to this book while the US Open was playing on a TV in a local restaurant. Serena Williams was playing her final tournament and it made the stakes in the book feel that much higher as I reached the end of the story. Truly perfect timing.

I thought it was amazing and the character arc was perfectly executed! Carrie’s personality is so strong it would have been completely unbelievable and forced had she come to her growth moment any sooner. I agree it was a lot of tennis, which I knew nothing about, but it really had my heart racing as I read the details of each match.

As someone who loves sports and I mean LOVES sports Carrie Soto is Back was a book that I never knew I needed. It was simply amazing from the start to the finish!! A major aspect of the book that I loved so much was how focused Carrie was on tennis, she almost didn't care about anything else. I feel that it was an interesting perspective she took for her writing, the details were my favorite part about it. But I also see why people who aren't so interested in tennis or sports in general wouldn't love it.

i absolutely loved this book and could not put it down! And i knew literally zero about tennis, but the plot totally hooked me. i loved that that our protagonist was driven and not entirely likeable, but she didnt give a damn about being liked. she wanted to be the best, and didn't apologize for it. Something men have full permission to do without being labeled a "bitch". And i LOVED her relationship with her dad, he felt like such a complete, vivid, and imperfect beautiful character. Bowe Huntley was maybe written a bit too feminist "i love strong woman" for a man of that time period and it sometimes felt a little sappy and forced... but hey what do i know maybe there were a handful of sweet, thoughtful, un-prideful guys back then lol

I tooootally relate to your thoughts! I feel like I could predict the ending to this book a mile away after we got into part 2, and some of the typical things I love in TJR’s books just wasn’t present. Like I LOVE when she has a plot-twist element, but that was missing here. Also, I love how TJR always balances whatever topic she is writing about with character writing, but this book truly just felt like it was about tennis, and that was literally Carrie’s entire personality. She did have some growth in the end, but it just kinda felt like a typical sport storyline with someone that is hugely competitive? I wish I loved this one more, I’ve nearly read all of TJR’s backlist and I love her writing, but this book and Malibu Rising were disappointing for me 😢

I thought it was alright too. Solid 3.5 for me. It was an OK story with good writing,. But I've come to expect more from Taylor Jenkins Reid and that expectation led to just a bit of disappointment for me.

this is the first review I'm watching because everyone else seems to love everything she writes. the thing is I thought evelyn hugo was nice, but very poor writing; while daisy jones was fantastic to me, but mostly because I really connected to the main character. couldn't finish malibu rising and the first chapter of that other one (the husband who comes back from death) was so boring and predictable to me... so I guess I won't be reading this one either lol. I'm not into tennis, not connected to my father whatsoever and the character seems to be blunt 😭 I really wanted to get into her books though

Just finished this one today… a nope for me. It felt like it was simply written with the hope of it becoming a movie. The characters aren’t anything we haven’t seen before in better books. The story is formulaic and predictable. I always like they way she weaves articles and reports in her books, so I liked that. But, I feel like people who have no tennis knowledge might also skip some pages just because it’s very tennis-detailed. I didn’t think Evelyn Hugo was a nice person and it worked. I don’t care for Carrie at all. At it didn’t work.

I was really looking forward to this book I got it on release day but unfortunately I didn’t like it. The character Carrie is so forgettable not much to her at all nothing that made me connect with her. all Carrie did was complain through the book it all felt repetitive. This author has written some fantastic books but this is not one of them. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters not much of a story outside of the tennis matches
