    I’d stick to 27.5 for the 5010. I have the 5010 v4 and I converted the 140mm fork to a 150mm travel fork and it just rides really good.

    If I hit 1000 subscribers I’ll change mine to 27.5 with a 160mm fork.

    100% agree tried mullet. It was ok, but going back to 27 5 was an eye opener! Just put a new airshaft to the fork. It’s not to complicated on a pike.

    I already PR’d my climbs running the 27.5 front. It’s surprising how much faster 27.5 in climbing. Can you shaft the pike up to 160mm? I knew I should’ve bought a lyrik instead of the pike when I ordered the frame.

    @@spicymountainbike Think so, I changed my old pike (2016 and 27.5) from 140mm to 160mm. Just check if you can get the right airshaft for your pike model and 160mm somewhere. Personally I don't like the charger damper that much, so I ride DVO at the moment, but really I don't think extra stiffness of the bigger forks is so important.

    Yeah I prefer dvo too. I run a jade coil on my nomad it’s absolutely flawless. Rockshox is overrated for sure. They didn’t sell dvo where I got my bike.

    I’m totally with you. I think the the 29 is only better for rolling over things easier for less skilled riders. 29 is good for racing and tall riders. But if you got decent bike skills, 27.5 is better!!

    Ultimate on this build. I really dig mine. Great climber with LSC turned all the way up. Handles chop well and is super smooth. Handles big hits well too with HSC turned a few clicks in.

    are you a tall rider, because im debating 29ers for a new bike but i like 27.5 and am used to them its really stressing me out because im 5'11 ish and i really wanna keep the 27.5 but 29er is what everyone is riding

    I’m about 5’11 too. I feel you I’m the last 27.5 rider in my group too. The main reason to get a 29 is to ride faster. The problem is that it’s hard to find a good full 27.5 now. If you have 27.5 I wouldn’t switch unless you want the new design like I did. If you don’t mind losing quick handling then you can get a 29.

    I'm 6'2 and have a true 27.5" 5010 in XL and love it. Super playful and just gets after it. Most fun bike I have. I have a 29" Titanium hardtail and love it as well, but the 29" wheels make it way less playful and just can't corner like my 5010 on any terrain. I may eventually update to a newer 5010 frame, but I would certainly continue to run it as a full 27.5".

    That’s cool to hear because everyone swears that you need 29” if you’re 6 feet tall. I’m glad there’s more 27 enthusiasts like you! Maybe Santa Cruz will bring back 27.5 if we have more discussions like this! I definitely prefer climbing on the 27.5 front but the 29 is much faster when going straight down on the new 5010…. But then again it’s not a downhill bike.

    An MX set up absolutely has its advantages from a performance stand point however it is not gonna be a great fit for all bike frames. There is a reason all dirt bikes are setup this way. That being said I think the whole mullet (Mx) trend is definitely serving some companies as a marketing advantage like you said. Ive tried a 26" rear with a 27.5" front wheel on an older bike and LOVED the way it handled. I honestly think 29" is just too big on a MTB for people who enjoy quick handling but that's just my humble opinion. To each his own, Cheers fellas!

  • @spicymountainbike

    @spicymountainbike

    I wish 27.5 front and 26” rear would make a comeback but I think the tire market prefers 29” because they can charge more. A 29 tire is running 90$ and I can get 27.5 Maxxis 3c for 45$. Definitely marketing!! I have a mx bike too I think the 21” front is too big but you can’t get a 20” front rim. That was a brief trend is moto.
