had choice between the two both in sale, i could get the V4 top spec CC XO for the same price as the entry level V5. I ended up going with the V4 and coming from 29ers/MX i love how playful it is. Feels super premium in the top build too. Im sure anyone would be happy with either. Also pike ultimate not super deluxe

Just ditched my Trek Fuel EX9 for your same build V5. I stole it, such a good deal. LOVE IT. Trek was 6 years old and enough has changed!

I feel like you have to put out way more effort to have fun on the v5. V4 is fun on any trail, at any pace. Also feel like the 29" front just mutes a lot of trail feel making it less fun on small jibby features. More capable? Yes. More fun? I don't think so. May still be a little bitter that SC forced me into MX when they warranteed my v4 this past summer.

fair enough i love the V4 as well and can see that angle. i just got back from a two day trip at alifia where they have some bigger drops and features than i have down south here. my feedback on the v5 is thats it's more stable and i can go faster and feel more confident overall. it definitely rolls over roots better which we have a lot of in florida. the 29 in the front does feel different than the 27.5 but i'm diggin it. it feel it saved me a couple of times this past weekend when i hit some unforseen drops and was heavy on the front tire landing. i will say one con that i've noticed is that i get way more pedal strikes on this than the v4. i know the bottom bracket was lower but i didn't think it would be that much lol. i just ordered a bash plate because i've whacked the chain ring a few times already.i run it high too. both bikes are killer though

Would be interesting to see a comparison with the mullet set up on the V4. Has anyone tried this yet?

yea that would be interesting to hear a report on it. i'll i know is the more i ride the V5 the more i like it other than the pedal strikes lol
