I played Magnus Carlsen and then he immediately quit the tournament!?!?

"I think he blundered." *Two seconds later* "Oh no he didn't!" - Hilarious
I generally see Magnus' games from his perspective or neutral perspectives. But seeing him from an opponent's POV is downright terrifying
Pretty cute to see Eric’s heart rate JUMP when he saw it was magnus. A genuine respect and fear

It's pretty insane how accurately Magnus can play despite using so little time in a not that common opening/structure.

Thats absolutely the most impressive part. He’s blitzing out moves that are just *squeezing* the life out of Eric. Every move felt like a boa constrictor tightening and hes not tween thinking about it. Might be drunk lol
"I know this person. I'm playing Santa." Not 5 seconds in and I already giggled.
5:06 Eric when it's checkmate :"Oh no his queen! OH NO my king!"
"I wasn't losing until certain things started happening." Eric Rosen
There should be more comments about the fact that Magnus saw mate in 9!!!

That was a neat mate! Fun game well played to both of you
Beautiful game out of Magnus. Uncanny seeing Eric get squeezed the way I get squeezed in my games.
"last time he withdrew midway through a tournament there was a huge scandal" hahaha love that line
That was fun to watch. Kinda like watching a boa constrictor slowly strangle its prey. All you can do is see how long you can last. This is a feeling I am very familiar with. But like a broken watch (which has the correct time twice a day) I occasionally make a right move. Thanks for sharing.
Carlsen's great skill is that he can get anyone out of preparation (with non-theoretical lines) so that he can play actual chess where memory doesn't matter but only creativity, in which positions he thrives. He played 30) Rf8 in just one second which is inspiring by all means!
@Puschit1
Жыл бұрын
He most likely calculated those moves a long time ago. Your thinking time doesn't start when it is your turn, when Eric spends more time, he can calculate, too. And I think this was always be in the position should the bishop move away from e7. For me the most impressing move was 25) Rf7, this is what made all of that possible. I would probably just have doubled up rooks.

then why in classical 9LX did wesley so beat magnus 13.5-2.5 including 3x classical games in a row (something that didn't happen in world chess championships since 2000 vishy vs alexei and 1993 anatoly vs jan) ? and why in rapid 9LX did nepo beat magnus 3-1 and thus hikaru, who beat nepo (edit: essentially tied with Nepo but whatever), indirectly beat magnus 3-1 ?
@10kirneh

@@nicbentulan By your logic since I've won against someone who once beat a CM on a good day, and that CM beat a FM on a good day, and that FM beat an IM on a good day, and that IM beat a GM on a good day, and that GM beat a super GM on a good day, and that super GM beat Magnus on a good day. Therefore I have indirectly won against Magnus Carlsen.

Came back here after Eric’s (chessbrah) most recent bird speedrun video. Apparently he suggested the opening to Magnus while they were having supper and Magnus was playing on his phone lol
Sick combo at the end.. lol.
Wow, that ending is beautiful!
That was awesome to watch!!!! I was wondering if Magnus would use the revealed check and found that he did.... I probably would have spent ages of time to find a way to free the pawn for revealed check but Magnus didn't need to since Eric moved his bishop 😅 imagine being as good as Eric but having to play Magnus Carlson regularly 🤦🤦🤦🤦😭😭😭
Out of curiosity why are you supposed to trade the light squared bishop there? The computer like the idea and gave the move an ! (granted I'm honestly not sure where you'd put it after h3 anyway) so clearly it is correct but it seems like it would be a very valuable piece when white is playing for the dark squares.
You can tell by the heart rate monitor that Magnus put Eric in fight or flight mode.
When I read the title, I thought at least Eric beat Magnus before he withdrew!
At 4:50 I was already like what a gigachad "oh no my rook" by Magnus.
this was like when Magnus played Agadmator and agad though the position was equal and then magnus sac'd a knight for a forced mate
"ooh i know this person... Im playing Santa!" That alone made me wanna watch the whole vid

Remember Hans Niemann? This is him now. Feel old yet?
When you beat the best, you kinda’ lose motivation to keep going.. hence, Magnus quit. I have noticed that when you play super GM’s, you seem to be getting into serious time trouble from early on in the game, as if you prioritize accuracy over time management. Particularly for blitz, not sure if that is a good strategy.. 😅

25. ...a5 You left your king without luft. You'd be okay weakening the king's squares, because his pawn structure and piece placement make a kingside attack impossible. After a5, you probably find a draw; he'll have to trade down to stop your attack.
other chess youtubers are saying it was because you were playing too slowly for magnus because you were streaming and so he rage-quit the tourney.
Wtf? Whoever this guy is, he should go for the World Championship. He beat our boy, he has serious potential
Magnus withdrawing from this tournament certainly doesn’t look good for Eric. The withdrawal is an implication of something more serious that Eric is hiding…
