Haiti and Liechtenstein used to have the exact same flag and because they're in different hemispheres, Liechtenstein is very small, and Haiti was very poor, they had never been together to notice. That was, until the 1936 Olympics. Liechtenstein saw the Haitian competitors flying their civilian flag (🇭🇹 is the national flag, the civil flag doesn't have the coat of arms) that was exactly like theirs. A bicolor with two horizontal bands, a dark blue at top and a red one on the bottom. After that, Liechtenstein decided that they would change their flag to prevent confusion in the future and added a crown to the upper hoist side 🇱🇮 a change that has persisted to this day.

I was just about to comment something this as well. I asked my partner whose an immigrant from Ecuador why the flags are the same except for the now symbols that are on the Ecuadorian and Venezualan flags. I had no clue about Gran Colombia and that when the areas split up it became the countries of Ecuador, Columbia, and Venezuela....U.S. history classes aren't the greatest with the curriculum being the same thing over and over again each year...or at least where I went to school it was.

Also, way before Chad chose its current flag, it was a time when Romania and Andorra had the same flag. Because Romania had it first, Andorra had to add a coat of arms. Then in 1940's, Romania entered under Soviet Union's control. Because of this, Romania's flag had a communist coat of arms.

The fact that no of them is wrong. Romania has the right to use that flag. Chad also becuase Chad didn't know Romanians could change their flag

so romania willingly gave up the flag but then want to take it back.. Both nations could reasonably argue for their flag's legitimacy. However, if adopting a flag similar to another country's flag were illegal for example, then Romania would be at fault. Chad did nothing wrong. It's irrational for anyone to disagree with this perspective.

@@jacer5677 I don’t think so, Romania had the same flag with a symbol, chad copied the colors. It’s like if I make a flag red, a big yellow and red. And say it has nothing to do with Spain’s flag.

The only differences is the shade

Chad should’ve put more inspiration into their flag, even when they adopted it, it looked like the flag of a Romanian colony. We have Moldova with a similar flag, but Moldova was part of Romania and they speak Romanian, so it’s makes sense in this case.
