genuinely feel like smm2 forcing a football field volume of space at the start where you can't place anything was a blunder. it's not like it *fixed* the "teehee you'd better react instantly at the start or you die! :)c" thing and the tradeoff is that the start of every 2 level feels exactly the damn same! you can't start in a cute little house or make mario jump out of a block in the ground or nothin!

I agree but it wasn't for solving the insta react it was for multi-player to have a place they could guarantee everyone could spawn and be safe. Potentially without the box of safety where everyone can move around you could make a level where only the person that spawns where player 1 normally spawns is able to beat the level. It's a tough problem without a good solution but I don't think the football field was a good solution At the very least let us put semi solids over it for aesthetics it changes zero gameplay. The football field and lack of costumes were my first two big disappointments with 2

I have very clear memories of getting one of those costume pseudo-softlock levels in one of my first expert runs (I got into the game later so people had everything unlocked by then) and having absolutely no god damn clue what was happening. Bad in the moment, but hilarious in hindsight.

the Weird Mushroom was optimal for cheesing levels if you were lucky enough, I loved it. and ESPECIALLY the amiibo costumes, their awesome sprites, the sound jingles and CRAZY weird references and crossovers they had with event levels was so fucking sick, I wanted each and every single one of those so badly. SMM2 gave me no reason to play, sure it had Mii Costumes but honestly who cares. 100x Mario Challenge is way better than an infinite mode.

@@SimpleFlips Thanks Mr.Flips, here it is one of the TWO: 403E-0000-0424-17D6, not my greatest stage, i had 20 uploaded but Nintendo deleted 18 of them because they got no plays (That was literally a rule, such a bad rule), yet somehow 2 survived, the other one is a lot easier. Also, small hint, there's an archive of the miiverse comments on your stages, spoilers, they are not many and most are shoutouts. Last thing, you have affected my vocabulary, now i say "I'll be the 4th person to say it". PD: The stage says 2015, originally uploaded that year but before SMM upload thing ended, i decided to reupload all the stages i had, so the date of upload says 2021, i had more than 40 stages, but the online limits the number of stages you can upload by how popular the stages are, so the original limit was 10 (i think), i if you had 20 stars, the limit was increased to 15, if you had 50 stars the limit was increased to 20, but to increase into 25, you needed 150 stars, wich is a huge leap, and i tried to reach that as soon as i could and i couldn't in time, it doesn't matter now since no one can upload stages. My final number of stars is (or was) 144, so close.

Mario just controls so well in this game its insane, the hitboxes are much better, the tech was really consistent and satisfying i really wish mario maker 2 could have been like this. 2 added so much good but at the fundamental level 1 really did it well

The 8bitdo adapter does have more than noticeable input lag, if you're looking for a controller with a good dpad the SN30 pro also from 8bitdo has a full button suite and is excellent. As for other options with a DS4 the only other thing I can think of is using an adapter that lets you plug in wired but your mileage may vary.

If you’re using the PS4 controller via the 8BitDo adapter, I’ve noticed a pretty obvious input delay trying to use that. Once I switched to the 8BitDo Pro (or the Pro Controller for non-Dpad games) it basically went away entirely. I would bet that’s why the controls aren’t feeling as tight in SMM2 as they do in SMM1 for you, I’d give a non-adapter switch controller a try :)

I had to double take seeing Mario Maker 1 but I really hope this isn't a 1 off, SMM1 is so good, I recently went back to it and the Amiibo costumes are as cool as I remember :) If only the modding community can one day make an online multiplayer mod like the other Wii U games

Mario Maker is one of the few Wii U titles that just doesn't feel the same on switch - playing the levels themselves is great, but nothing quite beats the stylus experience for building the levels.

I do like 100 Mario more than I like endless mario, tbh. Having a clear goal/endpoint gives it a different feeling. More clutch when you're on your last life at level 16. 100s vs Foxen is about equal to Versus with Idiots. They're different flavors with the same great taste.

Sometimes stuff is just older than it is. Even though this game came out 8 years ago it's a 20 year old game. South Park is the opposite. It started in the 90s but it's only a 10 year old show

Oh, yeah... starring takes forever on SMM1 because it tries to contact the Miiverse servers over and over. They patched the game when Miiverse was ended, not to fix those issues, but to patch out phantom jumps for some reason. You can go to your settings and block Miiverse to fix the lag and whatnot... It's honestly more of a pain to remember that than to just not star a level ever again.

I remember watching Simple’s first Mario Maker 2 stream where he played through the Story Mode levels. THAT was when I found out you couldn’t hold objects while spin jumping.

A dream come true, i asked this last year i think... anyways, if the Wii U or any system with a flash memory is not turned on for a long while, let's say, a year, there is a high chance that the memory will get corrupted, some people have been reporting that, mostly the ones that stopped using the system since the Switch launched, meaning 2017. On a similar note, some late 3DS games have died by a similar issue, but much earlier, and that's a bit worrying, if i remember correctly, it was just a bad batch, but idk. Also, i sent SimpleFlips a friend thing on Wii U, last year i think, and i did play his harambe meme stage, that's how i found him on Mario Maker back then, if you see the people that have completed that stage, you will see my name as FalconBleck, but who cares lol

I actually think that i like mario maker 1 significantly more than mario maker 2, the wheel layout for level creation is limiting to me, and seeing every aspect all at once gives me a better idea of scope and gets the ideas flowing better, because i see every single possibility laid out before me all at once. and it feels better to control and make. and i love pipe stacking and there being more and easier kaizo tricks. I wouldve preferred just mario maker 1 but with more like dont change anything except adding content. i got lost writing this comment
