Did he really beat it though? There is some stuff about what happens in the stream right before "beating it" that looks pretty damn sus. Like for hours and hours dude doesn't ever even get though the first section and then suddenly starts doing some weird stuff with the screen and with OBS (almost as if they are setting something else up in the background while distracting chat...), then sets everything back to "normal" and then like 3 attempts later he magically makes it all the way to the end? Right. No face cam, no hand cam, just some weird stuff and a "trust me bro".

@@pbjandahighfive He has beaten other difficult levels and has been practicing for weeks before it was even know to be TASed. The first section is also the hardest so it makes sense why he would die the most there, also you can see how many times he has got close at the bottom of the stream. Creating a TAS device and making believable progress would probably be harder than just beating the level.

Honestly, I feel for both parties here. The ability to implement TAS in this way is a fantastic accomplishment when no one thought it possible, & it would have been a really cool reveal if it had gone off as he wanted it to. It is extremely unfortunate how things played out & that the public pressure mounted likely making it difficult for him to come forward. That is not to excuse him but it is understandable & appreciable as he had to come forward & face the mess he had completely unintentionally created.

@@aaakkk112 Okay, it's not incredibly out there, it's not a totally untouched field, but it had not been applied here. Innovation is not solely generative but heavily iterative. @@pubcleThe dude literally picked the most obnoxious possible time for the community to come clean. Any time before The Last Dance was completed: ideal time to admit it Right after the first clear for the TAS level: second best time to admit it (the fanfare escalates into "by the way, you guys went the extra mile and beat the bonus% level") Right as the deadline hits if the level is never cleared: third best time to admit it. A disappointment will turn into a sigh of relief: secretly, the game had been beaten all along. The tension doesn't go away so there's still at least something to celebrate that people are ready for. Instead, he picked "between The Last Dance being completed and the server deadline". All possibility of fanfare completely petered out. The tension of the challenge disappeared. He literally ruined the challenge for everyone. He knew about this push for *weeks,* including that his level was one of the last few uncleared levels. Now we have a situation where bombs5 (arguably a more important level for Mario Maker's history) now being an illegitimate upload. At least it has two legit clears. I think it's understated how hard it is to make a 1-frame input in a 60hz game. Pressing a button fully usually means it won't become "unpressed" for at least 2-3 frames. Getting a single frame button press requires special techniques that aren't consistent, like pressing the button "half-way" or pressing it at weird angles. Then there's the difficulty of pressing it for 1 frame on the correct frame, multiple times in a row. This is why people started doing TASes, because doing it manually is just too daunting.

and now it has been OFFICALLY beaten
It was a pleasure to be part of that team and clear 500 levels
Sanyx beat THH!
That's cool to think my levels were technically a part of this history

Honestly, I don't blame the guy. He obviously didn't intend to take away any sense of victory when he did this, it just happened that way in the end by pure chance. I'm sure even he partially expected someone to eventually beat it after lots of grinding- it was up for a long time. It gave us a cool end-story for Mario Maker anyways, so I don't feel he completely robbed people of excitement. Practically everyone's heard this story.

Right, like, it's still humanly possible. If there wasn't a deadline it really wouldn't be such a big deal. If someone does manage to beat it before the deadline then it'll be an even bigger achievement imo. And if they don't then it was TASed anyway, so it's mostly win-win. It's just a shame it wasn't revealed to be TASed sooner so that they had more time to grind for it.

Meanwhile me as a casual Mario player be looking at this stuff like you guys are already using TAS for a legit clear. Seriously, the insane skill needed for a lot of these levels makes it look like TAS already existed a long time ago for Mario Maker.
I am surprised with the millions of uploads that we didn't get more absurdly hard levels like the muncher stairs.
It's kinda fitting that the last level to beat in a mario game that hatched from ROMs is a TAS lol
they just need the controller mod to beat the level and voila! Jokes aside, the Mario games have a decade old history of "100%-TAS-only tricks being done by humans", so...

Trials of Death was uploaded before ChainChompBraden had successfully cleared it, though because it was cleared using hacks it would be sorted in the super-easy category which gives a very very low chance of running into one in endless mode, however they did not publically give out the level ID until he had cleared it first
WAIT HOW DID HE PRONOUNCE MASOCHIST?!?!
I'd argue the hardest level ever made in Mario Maker is "Trials of Death", but I suppose that couldn't be uploaded.

Skip to 9:00 Holy shit, that's the biggest Wadsworth constant I've seen. I normally love your videos, but God damn you really took a long time to get to the point in this one.
Everyone mentions how The Last Dance didn’t get the spotlight it deserved because we’re too busy talking about Trimming The Herbs. And yet, content creators like Abyssoft and Riley are guilty of exactly the same thing: they say “oh yeah The Last Dance was the last level” without actually talking about it in detail and why it was the true final level. That’s the video I want to see!
So if they beat Trimming the Herbs, is it technically lower than 0% levels uncleared? 🤔
Holy shit it was actually done
'Bonk the Bomb Right' sounds like the opening an number for the Imagination Movers or Wiggles adult tour
7:40 Looks like TMNT1 for the NES finally got a spiritual sequel.
I don't buy the whole statement of this was the only level ever uploaded with tas or by illegitimate means. There had to be a way of doing it cuz there were levels on smm1 that legends in the community complained about. Always seemed kinda fishy to me and while I'm not as talented as beast or aura..ect I have still played so much kaizo/speed runs of sm64 my hands are permanently swollen and red with arthritis and can't even play things of that difficulty anymore 😢. Anywho did Nintendo find these levels I remember of being uploaded by illegitimate means and remove them or ????
@Abyssoft
Ай бұрын
It is possible to hack a clear, for example surrounding an exit with hazards then hacking to get by them and complete the level for the upload, and Nintendo would remove those. This was entirely different, it's a just barely possible level for humans and not something out of the question of being done
@ChibiInuits

While very distinct from what Ayoho did, there are known instances of players using other sorts of tools to upload levels unrealistic for humans with a standard controller. One maker held a literal power tool against the right button on the dpad to upload a level where you have to climb across SMB1 vines absurdly quickly. He eventually confessed to this, and somebody beat his level using the same sort of tool a while later. There is also a level where somebody used a controller with programmable macros to upload a level in which the player must do 81 midair shell jumps in a row; for context, this is a difficult trick, and the biggest credible streak of consecutive midairs by a human is in the high 40s. Team 0% views these levels in pretty much the same light as it views TTH.
Such an insane level to the point I thought while watching some streamers attempt it was: "no human can clear this", only to end up being told this. It's kinda ironic, but I'm glad the guy came out about it

Unfortunately we will never have a chance to beat the levels where the techniques used were patched out and thus the levels were deleted. I uploaded one such level and as far as I know, it was never beaten before it got removed. It wasn't amazingly hard, it just used some weird bugs and even had some cheese that makes it still beatable today. But what about the really good, really hard ones that used bugs that were patched out? They are lost to time.
Sad to see such an accomplishment and nuanced situation being written down as a cheater scandal when doing tas on the WiiU at the time is such a major accomplishment and should be treated as such
