Hi there, Thomas here. First of all, thank you for watching this piece. This was quite of a different style of video and personal story, but after having told stories about seeking discomfort 6 years and not addressed the importance of meditation as a part of that journey, I felt compelled to finally share this with you all. I truly do believe in the power of meditation. I hope that all of you watching it will slowly make it a part of your mental diet and to bit by bit, make progress towards a more peaceful you ❤️ Thank you to Headspace for supporting this video, normally, Headspace free trials are 7-14 days, so this is really special. #headspacepartner

Hi all, Thomas here. This is a bit of a different video I’ve been wanting to make for a very long time. It doesn’t fit the typical Yes Theory adventure format and I wasn’t sure if people would care so for a long time I decided against it. I wrote this story 5 different ways and eventually decided that sharing my journey with mental health and how meditation has served me as an amazing companion through this, could help many that struggled the same way I have. This year in particular has been filled with unexpected challenges but we are feeling more and more like ourselves again. We are growing, learning and finding a new flow within our process that you will see the results of very soon. Excited to share and excited for more stories 💫 cheers to you all fellow Peace of Mind Seekers ✌️

This is the exact same type of meditation I started back in August 2021. Completely healed my major depression, severe anxiety, ptsd and insomnia of 17 years. Thank you for sharing. I ended up homeless after experiencing severe mental health challenges. I can remember sitting in my flat sobbing for hours because I couldn't build a flatpack. I discovered meditation and the law of attraction while I was living in a homeless shelter and still taking meds. Three years later I became an energy healer, I've never been happier, never experienced anxiety again and now I get to help others.

This is probably the most important video you all have ever posted. I resonate with so many things you said. I think as a creator there’s so much anxiety and depression that comes from not accomplishing goals that it feels like success will fix all of those unwanted emotions. Many are taught to ignore or not know how to express their emotions healthily and aren't guided by those emotions to be true to our authentic selves. I agree with you London. We need to address our whole being to be a whole being, otherwise we will have something missing which puts a hole in our being. With that empty space, parts of our true selves begins to seep out.

Sometimes. Emotions are also not always true because 95% of people have some sort of trauma and the nervous system responds with conditions anxiety even when the person is in a safe space. Artists like pablo Picasso was living in his gift , yet he killed him self. Loving someone else also isn’t all about an emotion because the heart is deceitful amongst all things. Emotions do mean out of alignment , but it’s easier said than done to simply “release” the thought or emotion.

@@madlenj.4644 I know this is ages ago but you made me think of a quote. "The master looked at him and said, 'if you meditate four hours a day, perhaps you will transcend in ten years.' Thinking he could do better, the man then said, 'Oh, Master, what if I meditated eight hours a day, how long will it take me to transcend?' The master looked at him and said, "if you meditate eight hours a day, perhaps you will transcend in twenty years.' 'But why will it take me longer if I meditate more?' The man asked. The master replied, 'you are not here to sacrifice your joy or your life. You are here to live, to be happy, and to love. If you can do your best in two hours of meditation, but you spend eight hours instead, you will only grow tired, miss the point, and you wont enjoy your life. Do your best, and perhaps you will learn that no matter how long you meditate, you can live, love, and be happy." Moral of the story is: length doesn't matter, consistency does. I previously went about 300 days in a row meditating. Most days I only did 3 minutes worth of meditation. I didn't notice a huge difference while I was doing it but boy did I notice when I stopped!

I did meditated in 2020 during lockdown, when i was performing meditation, i was engulfed with past emotions and had no clue what to do about those bombarded thoughts and eventually quit after 5 months as those repeated mind patterns felt very hard to stop. This year in jan 2022 i was going through crippling anxiety as i was reminded/ triggered of my past mistakes, i decided to read the reading the book “Power of Now by Ekhart Tolle” and now in feb 2022 I finished 30 days meditation challenge from KZread and still going on ;). Now, i understand the essence of present moment, the essence of being which can’t be understood but felt and why meditation(breathing in and out) and observing your breathe is really important to help you reach your inner body to feel conscious presence within oneself. Thanks to the book which has a profound help on my healing journey. i highly recommend this book to those who is watching my comment and who is having a struggle to meditate because of their compulsive thoughts. My fav quote from this book is “ If there were no illusion, there would be no enlightenment.” :)

I was someone who laughed at the idea of meditation and use to say "how can a 10 minutes thing will change our problems in life" . Years passed, I reached a bad / low phase of my life .. I did almost everything to become normal nothing worked... With no expectation I did mediation for a week (as I'm ready to take any step to become normal) and that week changed me..I still have those same problems , but it doesn't hit my heart (it's like water on lotus leaf) as I continue to meditate Im becoming a good human being, I stopped judging ppl which I did a lot earlier. Since I have seen the fruit of meditation I want my friends to get the same, but they laugh at me 😁 I request everyone who read this to try meditation atleast for a week , see the changes and continue.

Agreed. While you're young & fit enough, the body's recovery / detox mechanism is an automatic process you take for granted. Eventually that toxin residue builds up & if you're already habituated to the party lifestyle the chances are you're either going to fail to observe the early warning signs or you'll just ignore them until they reach a critical point your body/mind can't manage. That's the point at which you need to learn to reverse the damage & become more observant of the signals your body & mind send you. Nowadays I still get high off music & movement, I just swapped the intoxicants for sunlight, living foods & meditation. We are already magical chemical factories.. so cut out the middle men & their side effects & make your own!

I struggled to meditate for some time. I was expecting to receive some other world intelligence that would potentially shift my consciousness into enlightenment. When I realized that meditation was a means to healthy parenting of my mind and physicality and viewed meditation as nurture, I began to ease into it. The key for me was finding music that I could tone along with, creating frequency, vibration that is healing to the brain and CNS which is over stimulated for all of us in this age of technology. By engaging in the music, my focus goes to anticipating the changes in pitch and thoughts literally disappear. One can add oscillating colours to the inner landscape and shift their state of mind as well as their physicality as one affects the other. It has been said that meditation can be more restorative in a short amount of time than hours of sleep. It’s important to be comfortable, not assuming any “proper” form for meditation. Be kind to yourself, give it a try.

Two years ago I started having major panic attacks and I couldn't source what it was coming from. The chest pains were real, and I ended up going hospital out of fear I was having heart problems. It's a vicious cycle. I've luckily fallen out of that anxiety fuelled daily life thanks to the entirety of 2020 believe it or not! It gave me a full reset, and I believe that a change of lifestyle was needed. Regulating sleep patterns, eating healthily, and trying to avoid anything that affects my chemical balances (Alcohol, Weed, Coffee, Sugar etc). Sometimes you don't realise that your daily life can be a massive trigger because you're so used to it. Being able to reflect upon what in your brain is triggering anxious thoughts, or the feeling in general is a real game changer. I wish everyone the best with their own troubles, and I can say that meditation works wonders. Thank you for the video Thomas.

Interesting. I find myself being super anxious, worried, stressed for no reason, tensed and depressed lately, And it’s not a COVID thing. I’ve always been like that to an extent, but due to medical reasons (hormonal changes and several severe surgeries) it’s become unbareable the last six months. To the point that I can only fall asleep if I feed myself the darkest and worst thoughts possible. That’s my only calm place. Wouldn’t know where to start with meditation. My head would explode. I’m so tired. Edit: Not sure why I told you this. Sorry.

Only after I was allowed to message abdominal muscles ( had too wait 6 weeks for scar tissue to heal) and I got in to my psoas muscle was I able to get rid of all those thoughts. turns out that muscle is know as the flight or fight muscles because if it its tight your body and mind will be stuck in that state and can even affect your gut and hormonal health. From what I read it can be tight from even a foot surgery. That and some of the stuff scott mentioned above have been helpful along with making sure I go outside and get some morning sun ( The type of light your in can effect your hormones a lot). I never used to believe these kinds of videos till I actually was finally able to understand what meditation was really about. It's not about "not thinking" it's about believing in the power of the present moment. Even if I'm in immense pain I try to stop and move back from lashing out or reacting. Meditation can come in many different forms, you can figure out your own. I sometimes go for walks without my phone or just stay quiet for a few minutes no matter what thought comes to my head after a fight - I count those as mediation too and that's how I've been able to do it. Sitting quietly with my eyes closed doesn't work for me. And the most powerful realisation was the one where I understood that that was okay. It's about accepting things, letting go of what you wanted, but also not being disappoited or frustrated when you can't sometimes! Hope this helps somebody.

One of the biggest misconceptions about meditating is that it's about being still and silent. Couldn't be farther from the truth - it's about reconnecting with your inner guide, the voices that represent the true self. These voices and desires get buried under the louder voices of society and external expectations. Everything you want to know, can already be found within. You just need to look. ❤

I've been feeling exactly the same thing. I started meditating not long ago and that opened up a door self discovery. Lots of what I thought was normal, like being busy and productive all the time, it was actually quite of the contrary. I found out that the more productive I was, the less I was producing because I wasn't taking enough time to see myself from inside out, then I started to questions the underlying reasons I was doing so much as I was, and the finding was staggering, those were more about external than internal reasons - the focus was more about what people could notice I was doing than the benefits of doing it itself and I had a breakdown. After this dark moments, now, little by little, I can get myself back together. botton line is, meditating is the medicine everyone should take and the side effect are so positive that we ask ourselves why I hadn't taken that before. Amazing video, Thomas!

Thomas the meditation you’re doing is called Anapana in Pali (ancient Indian language). In vipassana meditation anapana is only the first step to quiet the mind. Then you go way way deeper by doing “vipassana” (more or less a body scan). I invite you and everyone to check vipassana méditation taught by S N Goenka. An amazing meditation which truly changed many things in my life. 🙏

I have done Pranic Healing where after the first 3 classes you can join this wonderful meditation which starts of with heart -brain coherence through the Meditation of St Francis of Assisi, and others. There’s always someone to ask and speaks to, which really helps.. Have also done Vipassana twice. You would really love it, as over the 10 days, each day, builds on the previous day, and even if a bit challenging some days, I felt like floating after the first 3-4 days… It was marvelous. Am still not as disciplined as you and meditate every day, but it has certainly changed me over the years…🙏💛

Dear Thomas, At the end of 2020, I was preparing for my first ever road trip 16 hours long after only 6 months of driving it was a challenge I really wanted to do on my own. In preparation, i saw the 96 Hours Inside Afghanistan video and I thought what a badass. I took the road trip and successfully, did it I felt on top of the world. Then recently I had an event that has me in that dark place of extreme anxiety. Slowly making progress every day and this video sent me over the edge of emotion because to me you're such an inspiration so to see that you went through it as well, makes me so motivated. TDLR I'm currently going through what you went through in 2017. I've started using Headspace and it's helped, but this video just gave me so much motivation to continue on and for this feeling to not control my life.

I use to meditate and stopped until I came across a huge struggle in my life that emotional destroyed me and I used alcohol and weed to minimize my anxiety and depression. One day I decided to meditate I used chanting mediation and hypnotic meditation which I fell asleep in but after one night I stopped smoking and drinking completely. I used heart meditation to heal my heart which stopped all the angry and anxiety in my mind but I had to go thru all the emotions and I had to forgive myself and people. I am still meditating I make sure to make time and I work out a few days a week to move my body and increase positivity. Anyone who is struggling meditate it helps so much and recenters your mind and body.

I am 20 and I would like to share something that I wish I knew at your age and could alter the way you grow up. Carl Jung was a psychiatrist/philosopher from the early 1900s and his writings are some of the most intricate and accurate resources on the human mind. He said that there are two categories of mental illness: 1) actual genetic mental illnesses such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, Down’s Syndrome, etc. and 2) ones we unintentionally give ourselves without knowing. These “fake” illnesses include ADHD and all the depression/anxiety disorders. Modern psychiatrists (im assuming you have been diagnosed by one) benefit from diagnosing people with the “fake” mental illnesses because that is 90% of their patients. They aren’t evil for doing this, it is just how they are trained. However, meditation and exploring your own mind and self image will reveal that you aren’t a “broken” person with a mental illness. You can become confident and happy by just accepting the way you feel about things and changing the way you feel about things if you find your responses to be unproductive in achieving your goals.

Thank you for this! You put my own journey into words and it's so nice to know that I am not alone because sometimes I think I must be imagining the changes and benefits. I bought the Headspace course years ago, before phone apps existed, and they've occupied my computer hard drives for all that time, unused. About 9 months ago I wanted to start meditating and dug up the Headspace exercises, starting at the 10 minute a day "Take 10" series. I r been more calm or more centered. Usually I start something (like exercise) and lose interest eventually. Not with Headspace. I look forward each and every day to the session, and then I do another meditation on my own later in the day. I have not yet missed a day. Everyone around me notices and appreciates the changes. I used to express my inner frustrations and shortcomings as anger, and could be quite cruel. Headspace has changed my life in profound ways, and I am so happy that it has done the same for you.

I am so happy you figured this out early. I too got everything I wanted after working super hard for 13 yrs. unfortunately reality doesn’t quite work the same way. Sometimes it really doesn’t matter how hard you work or how much you want to achieve a goal, we don’t always get what we want. Reality doesn’t grant trophies to us for just showing up. I’m older- I graduate from a residential high school for gifted students 30 yrs ago. Meditation definitely helps me with anxiety, depression and ADHD. This past school year I became so busy and focused on my students that I forgot myself. I’m here today to try and find my way back to mindfulness. Practicing gratitude helps so so much. He is so right about expectations robbing you of joy. Good luck to you. You literally have your whole life ahead of you. I must say, this guy definitely speaks with some hard won wisdom.

Hey itsninarosa! 🙃 I'm sorry if this seems like a spam, but if you'd like, you could try the meditation (aura cleansing) I have on my channel and see how it helps with anxiety. This is not exactly the kind of meditation where you simply "empty your mind" - rather, you put an effort in visualizing something. In my video I explain in detail how it works, and how it affects a person beyond the physical realm. Regardless of that though, I'd personally suggest to also try and get some sunlight (well, I know it's not so easy in this season) or make sure you're eating healthy things. I know from experience that, even when everything was going well in my life (nothing to stress me out) the wrong food and the many days of physical inactivity had taken a toll on me. And there were also periods of time where I was feeling stressful - and if I ate the wrong things (mostly sugary or too salty food), my emotions and stress would just worsen... Whereas, when I started eating more healthy (along with trying to keep my body active - not talking about working but about physically working out), I was much better at dealing with stress and the anxiety had minimized. Hope this helps a little bit! 🙂

When my son passed away my life came crashing down around me. I no longer cared about anyone or anything. I was really hoping a meteor would fall on me and end it all. I love you guys so much. This video made me realize that I was trying to meditate completely wrong. I was always waiting for that “perfect moment” to meditate, like for example I don’t meditate when it rains because I prefer meditating in sunlight… But there you were, meditating in a corner in the room or on a pillar and even in ice! This was really a profound learning experience for me, and you might not have even intended to do that! Lastly, I have ADHD which comes with it’s own challenges… I have that wild stallion in my head too and sometimes I really get so overwhelmed because it’s not just dealing with the mind that won’t keep quiet, it’s also the self-defeatist content of the mind, like the voices that say “you’re just not good enough,” and actually that’s one of the nicer thoughts I can have on some days. Just… thank you, sincerely.
