I think I'd tidy it up, getting it running smoothly, have some fun with it over the summer then do a reassessment later in the year on whether you want to put the time effort and money getting it A1. In theory, the values should keep going up so in a couple of years you might even make a few bob on it.

I had a 52 reg Peugeot 106, and your sunroof looks exactly like the one that was on my car. I was told on 106 and Saxos they can rust in the sunroof channel, so if you peel back the inside rubber you'll soon see how good or bad it is. Either way I'd clean out the sunroof drains tubes etc..as I imagine that's whats causing the rust problem. The clacking noise on the door can often be resolved by tightening the bolts oh the check strap, to the door as they work loose over time. If it was my car I'd get the head gasket done properly now an save any hassles later, sort the rusty roof out. Give the wheels a quick rub down an diy respray, tidy up the paint an the damage an just enjoy it. Price wise, I didn't know Rallyes were as much as £10,000 now! But I guess it's not a surprise with how much a 205 GTi sells for these days, at the end of the day something is worth whatever your willing to pay. So as long as your happy with it, then that's all that matters.

Have you checked the oil filler cap for mayo? I know it's sat so it could be condensation but that and oily coolant in the expansion tank is usually a good indicator. There's also that cheapish test kit you can get that detects exhaust gas in the coolant...cheaper than stripping it down.

  • @ChopsGarage

Hi Alan. No mayo but these a fibre head gaskets, renowned for blowing if sat. I think I will take head of either way for the experience.

If you can get it sorted you'll love it.I had one in 1997 -Kept and used it for 18 months and sold it for almost what I gave for it.I miss the revs awesome handling-Felt like a proper little rally car.(Unusual size tyres that were tricky to get at the time!175/60/14)Do find an original air box as well-they still have a good induction noise.Mine used to sound a little lumpier on tick over.

Hi. I bought one of these brand new back in 95 . They didn't come with sunroofs as standard, it was one of the few options you could spec. I'm not sure however if it was factory or dealer fit. I would suspect the latter as they are only the tilt or remove variety, Whereas my 205 had the factory type that slid back on external runners. Hope this helps.

Hey that creaking in the doors actually isn’t the dent in the door I have an xsi and mine does the same thing but I just bought some new roller pins for the door hinge as they get worn out on almost all 90s Peugeot’s and you can pick them up at dealer pretty easily

Head gasket won't be difficult to do and not expensive so would do it properly. Additive sealers are never good for engines because they can block the coolant galleries which you cant clean out easily. The rest can be repaired as a rolling restoration.

I like driving honest rough round the edges classics and I appreciate them more in shows to more character. like my mr2 you dont feel guilty about driving it and parking in busy areas. Interior is quite nice in it to tbh just drive away at it!

Pull the head off and check head gasket out - it's super easy to do on these and not worth potentially stuffing up the heater matrix with Steel seal. The sunroof doesn't look factory or dealer fit at first glance. Personally I'd do the head gasket, change all the fluids - make sure there is the correct oil in the gearbox - most don't and the diff and output bearings suffer as a result. As it's still got its original engine and nearly all its original Rallye features it's definitely worth giving it some love and it's where the value lies. If you are looking to swap the roof skin, id try hunting one down sooner rather than later - most surviving donor 106's and Saxos have sunroofs so if an uncut roof pops up id be inclined to grab it. It looks a bit rough and ready but underneath it looks to be solid where it really counts. Use it and enjoy for now and pull it apart properly later .😀👍👍
