Tyrion is a tragic joke in the books... Varys & Littlefinger continue their plans without interruption while he is Hand, he got found guilty of his own assassination attempt (Littlefinger was trying to widow Sansa), he killed Tywin which was just killing a dead man who just hadn't died yet (Oberyn poisoned Tywin before sacrificing himself in the duel to prevent reprisals against Dorne for doing it). It's a pretty long list of Tyrion failing upwards or just failing in general... about the only thing that he deserves credit for is overpaying the Second Sons mercenary company to his cause since it was just promises on a piece of paper which he needs to be victorious for it to matter

And his entire character was unfortunately destroyed and degraded the moment Oberyn lost to the Mountain . . D&D should be tossed in front of a military tribunal for what they did to the source material and characters 😒 Simply interacting with the most characters doesn't necessarily make them the "main protagonist" though, I'd argue there is no 'main protagonist' but rather multiple 'main protagonists' within the book-Jon/Jaime/Tyrion/Daenarys/Bran (though 95% of his chapters are slug fests he probably has the most important journey overall) and most of the other POV characters like the mentally deranged Cersei or Ser Davos or Reek

@@Tcman95 no, he had others tend to that FOR him. just like he tasked his thug with beating his soon to be wife. many of the lannisters have the balls to do their own dirty work, even if they would task it to others on occasion. Tywin would have no problem with killing you himself if you dared insult him, for example. Joffrey is king, essentially untouchable, and a sociopath without moral or ethic or empathy. if he had any backbone, Tyrion would be dead for slapping him and embarassing him in the court, but he doesn't have any backbone, he's too much of a spoiled and pampered ponce to get his own hands dirty. the look on his face as tyrion enters says it all, he's terrified of being diminished in front of others. Joffrey's only concerned with inflating his own ego to godlike proportion, because he knows deep down he's a pathetic worm of a man who couldn't wipe his own ass without the aid of a handmaiden. he wouldn't dare do anything to tyrion, not because he's fond of him or he needs him, but because he knows most of the people in that room respect Tyrion despite his mocking nickname, and likewise most of them hate Joffrey's guts, and he's terrified that they all both despise him and respect the imp enough that Bronn, possibly Clegane, and a good number of others might mob his ass and separate his head from his shoulders by force. Bark, no balls. he needs to have other people with balls to do his dirtywork, because he's a coward.

It's a pretty long list of Tyrion failing upwards or just failing in general... about the only thing that he deserves credit for is overpaying the Second Sons mercenary company to his cause since it was just promises on a piece of paper which he needs to be victorious for it to matter

Yeah in House Of The Dragon they acted the same way when Aemond basically called Jacerys and Lucerys bastards at their dinner party and almost got into a fight. Then Uncle Daemon walked in with Dark Sister on his hip, just hours after taking half of Vaemond Velaryon's in the throne room for calling out Jace and Luc's bastardness. And everyone immediately chilled the fuck out and the kiddos dispersed pretty quickly.
