The best thing about this scene is everyone sitting at the table have some sort of conflict with each other at this point, and instead of being at each others throats, they instead all have this unspoken understanding with each other that Joffery is, and is becoming, a bigger problem.

Tywin not joining in with the comments against Tyrion whilst then intimidating Joffrey to a scary degree speaks volumes. His respect for Joffrey was below his respect for even Tyrion. He also loved his wife more than anyone. Tyrion's birth caused her death (no fault of his own ofc). She already was fragile for months after Jaime and Cersi's birth, so she passed away after giving birth to Tyrion. I think besides Tyrion being a dwarf, the most similar to Tywin, and being the only one able to pass on the Lannister name since Jaime is a White Cloak and could take no wife, combined into Tywin having unreasonable scorn for Tyrion. Mostly his wife's death.

@@klina7645 At first, I really thought Tywin was involved in some way when Joffrey got poisoned. He had a lot to gain from it. He gets Joffrey (someone who is mentally unstable and unpredictable) replaced by Tommen, who is a lot easier for him to manipulate. He knows Tyrion would've been a suspect (since Tyrion openly threatened Joffrey multiple times and had easy access to poison his wine as a cupbearer), and he wants Tyrion dead but can't openly do it, so framing him for it takes care of that. I was honestly surprised to eventually find out that he had nothing to do with it.

@@cid2852 Tywin himself shows that for all of his cruelty he does not kill family members. That isn't to say that he probably was glad that Joffrey was dead (shown when he immediately tries to mold/manipulate Tommen into a good little king), but he also specifically mentions he didn't kill Tyrion because Tyrion is a Lannister. It's a recurring element in the show that Lannisters think a Lannister is better than everything else. As Tywin says: "he's the lowest, but he's one of us."

In the books the best part about this scene is that Tywin paces to the window afterward. @@kaleemjay7464 Yeah, so many people here saying Tywin owned Joffrey, but I think Joffrey one-upped him in this one moment. He rightfully pointed out that for all of Tywin's posturing, he hid out on Casterly Rock during Robert's Rebellion and left Robert to do the heavy lifting, only aiding when he was sure Robert and Ned would win. You can tell how much of a nerve this strikes in Tywin, and him sending Joffrey to bed reeks of him trying to assert his superiority again.

I agree it would be wholesome, except Joffrey was only using this knowledge to make himself look better. Given Joffrey’s character, basically I seriously doubt he was sticking up for Robert. More like, taking Robert’s accomplishments as his own I’m guessing. But, yeah I think you’re right that Joffrey for once in his life actually successfully burned someone…that someone just happened to be one of the most dangerous people at the time in the entire kingdom-the only one who still had some control over him and was literally leading Joffrey’s military. I definitely think Tywin was strongly considering killing Joffrey.

There were more impressive performances in the cast, but Jackie Gleeson did a phenomenol job yes! Dont forget Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister, who literally OWNED every scene he was in! Written scripts are one thing, but embodying a character like he did, is just top-class acting! Or the 2nd-most hated character in the show; Walder Frey, played by David Bradley. Another veteran actor, rather unknown, yet he brought life to the despicable Walder Frey in a fantastic manner. Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy was great as well! Iwan Rheon as frikkin Ramsey? Michael Mcelhatton as Roose Bolton was an eerie, cold character too...(imho given too little screentime! McElhatton áced the part!) Lena Headey whas phenomenal as Cersei! Pedro Pascal, as the flamboyant Prince Oberyn was also pérfectly cast, and spectaculairly performed! and even that their roles were small(scrapped mostly?) Alexander Siddig as Doran Martel, and Indira Varma as Ellaria Sand were amazing too! Stephen Dillaine as Stannis was sólid! Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon!! He had a great chemistry with Sean Bean's Ned Stark, and afterwards, the showrunners regretted to not stretch out that story a bit as they were just a sight to behold! Ciaran Hinds as Mance Rayder? James Cosmo as Lord Commander Mormont? Owen Teale as Ser Alliser Thorne? Bella Ramsey as Leana Mormont! She was amazing too! Kristopher Huvju as Tormund Giantsbane was great as well! Ben Crompton as Dolorous Edd? Iain Glenn as Jorah Mormont(who also tutored Emilia Clarke during the show!) Gwendoline Christie as Brienne of Tarth! Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister Niklas Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister But one of thé biggest surprises in this show was the rather unknown Rory McCann who ábsolutely ACED it as Sandor 'the Hound' Clegane! Why McCann never got an Award for his magnificent performance, is beyond me...

“Any man who must say ‘I am the king’ is no true king. I’ll make sure you understand that when I’ve won your war for you.” And this is why Tywin Lannister is such a great character. Incredibly complicated and - at times - despicable as he was, he had those moments where I couldn’t help but respect him. He and Tyrion were the only ones who actually stood up to Joffrey.

The funniest part about Joffrey was how because he was the king whenever he did something cruel everyone around him would play it down or make excuses for him so that the King was never at fault or he hadn't really done anything wrong. Like when Joffrey poured wine on Tyrions head and everyone played it off as an accident but Joffreh kept doubling down like he wanted people to know that he was trying to be cruel.

I like how Tryion's eyes SLOWLY pan from Joffrey to Tywin. Really emphasizes the gravity of the situation.

Imagine what a great duo Tywin and Tyrion would have been... if Tywin never decided to hate Tyrion just for his existence.

If you think about it, majority of Joff’s miserable, short little reign was spent being owned by Tyrion.

My favorite part of this scene is the Smug look on Tywins face as he stares Joffery down while he walks off too bed throwing his tantrum. Without saying a word that look says it all “You can play King all you want, but I’m the one really in charge here and you know it!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Jack Gleeson is absolutely amazing. He Actually shows Joffrey immaturity and shows how stupid he Actually is. Shame Gleeson was forced out of acting for a lil while due to people not being able to separate fiction from reality.

Ioved Varys his expressions at everyone, keeping in his laugh after Tyrions treat, the look of "even a king doesn't have to spit in my face" when Joffrey starts renting and the look of "oh shit" after he insulted Tywin.

i like how when joffrey calls out tywin everyone is looking at him knowing that he fucked up and that he's not on tywins level. also notice how tywin responds by almost making fun of him and toying with him as if he's a baby. telling him to go to sleep and having others arrange his bed as if he is a child who cant manage anything by himself. it's so subtle yet so fascinating

This is one of the only scenes I can think of where Tywin and Tyrion's contempt and resentment for Joffrey was so fierce that Tywin backs up Tyrion and they both smile and laugh briefly together in harmony as Joffrey is put to bed...... In that moment, for just a little while, Tyrion and Tywin are united and bonded by their hatred of the same person. Joffrey was so bad he could mend a broken family to unite against him.

For once, even Joffrey knew he'd messed up. You can see that look of dawning uncertaimty and fear on his face as Tywin stares him down after that little outburst.

Tywin and Tyrion were both capable of outwitting and intimidating Joffrey on their own. When it was the two of them at the same time, Joffrey gets decimated so badly he needs to be removed from the room.
