I know Craster is a delusional man but he could definitely understand the situation and just like he had to give whitewalkers his babies, he also had to give his food to crows in order to survive. Mormont cannot afford to be a moral man in his position, he has to lead his men with frequent hype ups just like Napoleon and Alexander did. His men don't have good enough lives to obey any moral codes so he has to create a strong authoritative figure that does everything for his men

God damn it Mormont is badass. Even though he was stabbed in the back he still managed to pick up a guy by his throat and chuck him against a wall and he didn't even whimper at all when he was dying.

Notice how Tanner was ready to surrender to Mormont. He looked even scared of him, and shocked when Mormont got stabbed in the back. The mutiny certainly wasn‘t planned, it was just Tanner acting out of hunger and hatred. Then the other guy stabbed Mormont, and all hell broke loose. Tanner seized the opportunity, but I think he never meant it in the first place. He really just wanted something to eat.

I started watching late so I barely knew who was who, but same for me lol

Can't even begin describing how badass the voice of the man saying: "Whose throat are you gonna cut old man?" is, but it's delivery was EPIC. The silence afterward and the look on both the instigator and Crasters face said it all: Shit just got real.

To me, this was more satisfying than the Purple Wedding. Jeffrey was a brat and a monster, but he was also constantly being disrespected and humiliated, so there wasn't as much built up tension. Craster was murdering his own babies since season 2 and even farther back, and no one did anything against him. Also, I love the different kinds of evil portrayed in this scene; Craster is just as evil as Karl Tanner, but Tanner puts his money where his mouth is.

Jeor Mormont gets stabbed in the back, and the pain and shock was enough to make the seasoned warrior drop his sword. And he still has enough strength to grab Rast by the neck with one hand and very nearly choke the life out of him before he gets attacked from behind again. You can see why the Mormont sigil is a bear.

Craster is pretty unique in that even the other wildling farther north were being pushed by the Others (White Walkers) and their wights, but he was not. All we know is that there was a trade between Craster and the Others about his sons. It is possible that the Others are incapable of reproducing alone, so they need the human seed of life to take the warmth out of it into a being of ice and snow, much like dragons are said to be 'fire made flesh'. So it was possible that the Walkers have a sort of route, patrol, watch or something over Craster, and when shit gone down, they were going to investigate what was happening.

I never understood Craster's confidence. Does he think he can kill anyone? The way he threatens people as if he had supernatural power. But he is just one vs 100

And he's talking shit to their faces and gorging himself before their eyes. Karl wasn't even wrong. Evil man on the whole. Completely justified in the moment. Small wonder so many half-dead rangers took his side.

Wish more of the show could've been like this. A hated character is killed by a likable character that killed another likable character. It makes for 2 antagonists, one is fun to watch be a villain, the other is fun to watch die. And a liked character dies adding some more emotion to the scene. All around a well written scene.

Absolutely brilliantly timed. The massive pause really made me think nothing was going to happen... then it did... then it did again suddenly when Jeor gets stabbed. My favourite moment yet!

The actor playing karl brings so much to every line he speaks, amazing delivery, that is a great actor. One of the most ruthless characters on the show in only a few scenes.

I love how Sam took the initiative to save Gilly and little Sam he’s a coward but he can take charge when the situation goes really bad :))

The tension and following chaos in this scene is on point. One the best action scenes i have ever seen. Also it suck that mormont died but damn was it satisfying to see someone finally stand up to craster.

The way Mormont just lifts Rast and starts choking him had to be his most badass moment.

I had totally forgotten about this! Never even realized at the time that that commander was Jorah'as father... This week's episode made me wonder about it and search again. Didn't even remember Sam Tarly was actually right there witnessing the entire thing. I guess when I'm done with this season, there will be a lot of replay value on getting back to previous seasons.

Yep it was the same for me. A show like this has so many different intricate details and characters and plotlines all doing things at the same time that its nearly impossible to catch everything just watching it once.

Jeor’s last acts were drawing his blade in defense of an innocent, then coming within a few heartbeats of choking the life out of his attacker. A leader and badass to his last breath

Karl Tanner, outstanding performance by Burn Gorman. It's his best role ever. I hope some day he can play a back story spin off.

All Castor had to do was give them even just a little bit of fresh food and some space to sit and sleep in and all of this could’ve been avoided. Like did he not know that these guys just experienced something they were told as scary stories when they were kids? Plus most of them were former criminals so antagonizing them and denying them some good food was a big mistake. Also Jeor is a literal mighty bear lifting that guy up with one hand while just getting stabbed and being an old man. Also Grenn (I think that’s his name?) was a true brother of the nights watch. He attacks the mutineers as soon as they injure Jeor

I love the acting from Karl's actor. Its pretty awesome how he closes his eyes before he calls Craster a bastard the second time. Like he's psyching himself up and thinking "You know what.... this will probably end badly. But....fuck it."

That's Burn Gorman a british actor who isn't well known but brilliant in everything I've seen him in, he played Owen in Torchwood (spin off of Doctor Who) and I saw him play Bill Syches in Oliver at the the theatre, he has a fantastic menacing voice.

"I'd rather eat,what you've got hidden awaaaaaaaaaaaay" ...damn what a delivery of this sentence!!!! Just the right amount of calm evil sarcasm and sardonious smile... His misanthropy and evilness is evident, looked like the worst criminal, able and willing to do anything. Menacing,intimidating,disparaging speech... This Karl Tanner fella had the most punchable face I've ever seen,absolutely scary character, made me hate him instanly,as soon a he delivered the line " Whose throats you gonna cut old man?" Greatest 15 seconds of acting in the A.S.O.I.A.F. universe... Absolute brilliant acting by Burn Gorman, take a bow sir !!! Would love to see him act as the villain in a Hollywood movie,amazing actor!

I'm with the mutineers in this. Let's be honest, Jeor Mormont was a hypocrite - an "honorable" man who tolerates an incestious rapist, sacrificing his male offsprings to the Others... just because he offers shelter to the Rangers. Good job, lads!

Mormont’s biggest issue here was Benjan Stark & the other rangers pretty much all died & they hadn’t had time to replace those losses… They also didn’t have anyone else who really could’ve backed Mormont up like Benjan stark, which Mormont needed due to his old age…. Yes Jon Snow would become that man but this was his 1st trip beyond the wall.. Mormont at his old age, the best rangers & Benjan stark being gone all resulted in this…

Seriously! "....But you are a bastard..." that part.. man if i was Bronn or the Hound, i would think twice about charging a man in his condition who is talking like that, in that tone.. Chilling and brilliant acting! Some of the best acting and delivery ive seen from a tiny part in a major tv series.

When i watched this scene, i cheered the death of craster and Mormont. Craster for obvious reasons and Mormont because he was alowing Craster to do all of this. Then come this weeks episode and i am like... its even worse than before... Still hate Mormont tough

Joer Mormont was a good Lord Commander, probably better than the Night’s Watch deserved. He was actually highborn and took the job out of honor, not duty. I feel like he slowly forgot who he was leading until it was too late. These aren’t the warriors of Bear Island, they’re half-starved criminals freezing to death.

In the book Mormont's death was even sader because he died in Sam's lap saying that he forgive him and asks Sam to tell Jorah to join Nights Watch as his dying wish.

"There is saw dust in the bread!'' "Go out there and eat the snow!" "There's saw dust in the snow!" "Then go out there and eat the horse-shit!" "There is saw dust in the horse-shit!" "Ok, that's enough!" "There is saw dust in the enough!"

Craster charged at Tanner and Tanner defended himself as any man should. How does Mormont react? by declaring he'll have Tanners head 😬 By this point Jeor had led about half of the ranging party to their deaths and was ignoring the concerns of his troops in order to appease a creepy, wildling scumbag. Karl was at the breaking point and he did a lot of them a favor

How had Craster managed to get along so well for so long without any physical protection for his keep? He's the only grown man on his property.Was he really relying on Guest Right to protect him while treating a load of angry, freezing, and hungry Night's Watchmen like shit? And even if the Night's Watch was more disciplined, how did he protect himself from other wildlings and marauders without any fighting men? I find it hard to believe that his constantly-terrified and irreperably damaged legion of daughter-wives would make for an effective fighting force.

Jeor also didn't have the backs of his men. If I was their commander I'd've killed Craster right away and divided up his supplies to take care of my hurt men, kept the daughters from being raped, then let them have the place when I left. Craster's usefulness as a long-term ally was irrelevant by that point anyway.

Never noticed how scared karl gets once Mormont challenges him. Great scene

After listening to the books on audio, I can’t help but hear Roy Dotrice’s voice narrating these scene. “Craster’s wives brought them two loaves of bread. When Ulmer asked for more, the woman just shook her head. That was when the trouble started.”

Karl Tanner was such a bastard, but it was hard to not like him lol

Just finished re-reading this scene in ASOS. It fucking angers me how they did not include Jeor's last words and made Sam run away with Gilly just like that. Sam was holding Jeor while he drew his last breath, and kept holding his dead body long after he was gone.

I personally like this scene more than the Unsullied Dracarys scene with Dranerys.

I like the way the pig oinking aligns with Craster talking in the beginning, it really highlights his personality a lot, especially at 0:26 when he’s laughing at the wounded
