I disagree. My daily drivers are the cheap Walmart brand ONN wireless Sport around ears. Paid less than 35 bucks for them and they have never had a connection issue, and the sound quality is better than expected (bearing in mind they're 35, I'd say they're about as good as any Sennheiser buds I've owned at twice the price.) They also have great battery life, comfortable, and a great Type C port charging case. I've owned several $85+ dollar ear buds over the years and the sound isn't nearly 50 bucks more worth and they've all failed for one reason or another far sooner than those cheapies. If I'm paying $100+ they better work flawlessly, and certainly better than $35 Walmart brand buds. If I'm having connection issues in that price range, they're getting returned.

Okay, I'm glad it wasn't just me with the in-ear detection issues. I don't use my ear(1)s very often but I get VERY frequent random pauses. The only way I've found to help the issue is to wear them so that the end of the stem is full-on touching your ear - I'm pretty sure the sensor is there, rather than on the bulb end like most in-ears, so moving around with the stems away from your skin messes with the detection. Poor design but at least relatively solvable. EDIT: Okay, the latency issue is something I experience, too, but I've never had issues with Low Latency Mode. That's a new one for me

I got the Nero TX in-ear headphones and they're great. The buds come in a box that charges them and also acts as a powerbank for your phone. The lid closes on the box with magnets built into the plastic so they will never come loose. And the sound is fantastic. Good mids and treble and a strong bass that somehow manages to not overshadow the rest of the sound.

That DBrand ad... I love those guys. Such a great sense of humor... and love that Linus plays along and has fun with it, too. Great stuff.
8:40 So the trick to adjust the volume on these is to support/push the weirdly curved side portion of the earbuds when they’re in your ears with your index finger, and then firmly drag up and down on the buds with your thumb-it’s a 2 finger operation; this basically always works for me. This is also how it works on the new AirPods Pro, except you support those with your thumb and not the index finger.
I have the nothing ear (1)s and i've had none of the problems that alex has talked about, but I have had completely different issues. For example, I am a tall guy and having them in my ear with my phone in my pocket causes the connection to become spotty and also the noise cancellation on them likes to randomly disable itself when there is a lull in the volume of the music. Other than those 2 glaring issues, I havent had too many bad experiences with them but I look forward to Nothing's changes in the future and hope that they can release something that is completely ironed out.

I mean, basically this. None of the problems Alex mentioned. Kinda sad to see him bash on ear(1) that much. They're pretty decent for the price, if they still sold them. Indeed mine also occasionally stop playing for a moment when my phone is in my pocket for some reason. I've noticed it most while walking, while just sitting in the bus it has no issues. It doesn't seem to lose connection, it just stops playing for 1-3 seconds. That doesn't take away from the fact that my first pair had a constant buzzing noise, which I promptly returned. The second pair has some leftover factory glue or something on the inside of the transparent case, I contacted Nothing support about this, with clear pictures, and they suggested wiping the case with alcohol... On the inside of the case... 🤦♂

Ive been using my ear 1 pretty much since launch. The only issue i had is connectivity which i supposed is a software bug, so i returned them and got some new ones. All the other points of criticism Alex pointed out i have not experienced and im extremely happy with them
Also an Ear (1) owner from one of the first releases. I bought them for the looks, but found them to be better than anything else I had at the time so they became my daily drivers for a bit, and I still use them with my Switch (so they're actually in my ears right now). My case actually looks way more scratched than yours (although I didn't miss a peel). No other damage to them though. I don't hate the volume up and down touch controls, but they sit too far in your ears for the touch and hold functions which require a bit of force. My biggest issue though is that the ANC on the (1)'s was frankly unusable for long walks to either cut out or pass through traffic noises depending on my needs. Sad to hear that they still haven't really nailed that. I'm usually a podcast listener, so ANC is more important to me than sound quality.
Alex needs to see the USB-C cables that come with some fairly high end torches & high power other portable devices. Theyre designed for portability - literally 2 inches long

Yeah and his remarks on the sound profiles doesnt make a lot of sense, its definitely not what I have seen in most serious well known audio review publications. If anything they are somewhat different Airpods with a pretty close profile but worse ANC (irrelevant feature for many people anyway). Considering how trash his looks its fair to say he really doesnt take care of his stuff but this is what I expect from his character. I have had mine for more than a year and frequently run with them and I have no serious issues. They only drop from time to time but it happens exactly at the same place where my airpods would also drop so I cant really be mad about that. For the price they where sold at they were a no brainer, now the value equation is a bit more complicated because you might be able to find some AKG or Samsung version of them that have the best sound profile around for close to this price. Still the overall package is quite interesting and they make the standard airpods look like an overpriced nonsense, I have both and I have a full Apple ecosystem setup yet there is no question about which ones I prefer...

The only problem with Ear (1) is that the case looks like shit after a year of use, and it's slightly too big for everyday use.

Right? I've had mine for about a year and the only time I have issues with them is accidentally switching modes when resting my head on my hand. Other than that, they have worked perfectly. Of course you can find better sounding earphones, or ones with better ANC (a feature I myself don't even really use tbh) but you would struggle to get such an overall good product for the price.

0:14 Ah yes, the OnePlus Ear(2), what a nice pair of earbuds.

I have used the Nothing Ear (1) daily for half a year. They are great value and I am very satisfied with them. Being my first pair of in-ear wireless headphones I can't compare them much with anything. But some of the problems Alex describes are not the same as those I have experienced. The touch controls on mine are very responsive actually mostly the volume up and down. The durability is good with only expected scratches on the acrylic and even sleeping with them now and then hasn't been a problem. The in-ear registration also hasn't been an issue with false triggers only the occasional delay when pausing after actually taking them out of the ear. Noise-canceling as mentioned in the original review is only ok - but better than Nothing ;). My most frustrating problem is when taking them out of the case the first earbud sometimes won't connect. Opening the case and waiting for the green indicator to turn off before taking the earbuds out of the case seems to help.
I rate this video 8/10. Great sound effects. Can’t wait for the sequel
I don't particularly feel like I need a skin, but these sponsor spots make me want to reward them with a purchase
I've had the ear 1 for a while, I agree that in-ear detection has been awful, also the audio can occasionally glitch, but the charging issues and connection issues that existed at launch seem to have improved (or maybe I just learned how to mitigate those issues). The tap functionality doesn't always work which is probably the most annoying issue for me. Still, overall I'm not unhappy with what they offered at £99, but I am tempted to upgrade if the ear 2 are that much better
I bought and have been daily driving the Ear(1)'s since watching James' ShortCircuit. For what it's worth, my anecdotal experience: -Had the same magnet break out in the same way and had to glue it in as well. -They also pause when they wiggle slightly out of my ear, especially in bed. -However, I never had latency issues and watched LTT videos with them on every lunch break at work. They're out of sync for the first couple seconds usually until it works perfectly. -The case is just big and takes some getting used to. -But I also bought and loved them since they were cheaper. I previously shelled out for AirPods pros, but those broke and loved the value of the Nothings. But at $150, I think I'll wait until mine outright fail before upgrading. bonus tech tip: These have 2 small magnets in the bottom of the case, so if u attach two button magnets to a surface, you can make a designated spot for your case to attach magnetically. I glued the magnets to my monitor base at work and slap on the case so it's not bulging in my pants pocket for 8 hours.
Well, the main channel for a: Short Circuit! .. I'll see myself out

These just arrived today. Love the design. They're super light and comfortable. Only thing I need to get used to is the low white noice when the ANC is on. Hope that would go away. Otherwise amazing.

As someone who's bought Nothing Ear (2)s as his first wireless earbud and still waiting for them to ship, I love watching various takes on both the (1)s and (2)s, especially the more critical ones, glad I chose to pay the extra 40 euros to get the (2)s as they seem to be the wiser choice and should last at least for a few years if lucky. In the end the most iconic take of this whole video was at 21:18, with earbuds you should always go for a compromise, if you actually want really good quality audio and spend enough time at home or places that allow you to have proper headphones - do that and actually splurge there.
Thanks for the review! But I have have to put out, that my ear 1 are still working (almost) perfectly. Even the in ear recognizing is working good for me, same with the touch control. I use it all the time while riding the bike :)

I had two nothing ear 1s and the left ear bud died on both. Music still plays on them but it’s incredibly quiet and insanely distorted. Both happened with less than a year of use
18:27 this shouldn't be a problem at all, as all devices these days support A/V Sync for Bluetooth, in that the device compensates for the estimated latency by delaying the video play back by exactly that amount of time. At that point there shouldn't be any discernable lag between a and v. I don't notice the lag even on my $30 tws because of this. Maybe some compatibility issue with the Ear (2)s
I'm convinced DBrand doesn't even care about selling skins. It's owned by a rich guy who just wanted an excuse to mess with Linus.
I've had the ear 1s for a year now. Except for the connectivity issues, I've never had any other problems that Alex mentions. maybe i got lucky? but i think the ear 1s are themselves a pretty solid product overall

Honestly i agree on the kinda random disconnects and increaed latency, but after using it for over a year with an average of 11 Hours usage per day, i couldn't be more happy with these buds. I luckely got them for 100 before the price went up. But i believe even for the increased price to 150, still a really good deal.

$50 seems like a fair price increase for those improvements. I'm getting them!
The probelm with it being 150 dollars is that it shifts the price segment where its in. Even when its better in every way compared to the Nothing ear 1 it has to compete with the other value hard hitters in the 150$ price range which i think it is definitly not well matched up against

I have been using nothing ear for about 18 months now and the only gripe I had was the in ear detection. I did not have the other issues discussed. I would most likely go for 2 again as its the best value for money in my country
I have nothing ear 1 since release, i droped them realy hard on floor the case cover is chipped, but still works fine.
Damn, I've had my Nothing ear81)'s for around a year now, and the "only" REAL problem I have is that the touch on one of the buds sometimes dosnt work for a littel while, but begin to work again at some point.
I have personally been using the nothing ears 1’s in the smoked out black for over half a year and it has been flawless! Absolutely love them and I totally don’t understand any of the problems people have been dealing with. Maybe im just the exception but still. Seems uncalled for 🤷🏻♂️
Just had to repair my Notging ear ones after 1 year 3 months of use. The solder pads connect the battery in the case was not great, making the entire case not work. Re-soldering the pads for the battery fixed the problem. Good headphones for being a brands first product. Has had some issues, but still a fan.
I got mine. Friggin love em. Very comfortable. Great sound. They will be my daily with my Samsung S23 ultra for sure.
I'm quite a big fan of the ear (1). I'm not a heavy user, using it occasionally for podcasts, music and KZread and I personally like the audio from it. In terms of reliability, I don't use it super often so it's surviving really well still. I have 2 gripes with the ear (1) which is the latency and one of my earbuds not charging in the case since the earbuds could sit slightly off of the metal charging tips. Looking at the ear (2), the difference visually is extremely small, I wouldn't be able to differentiate them so I'll probably be waiting for the ear (3) and I hope it's a huge improvement
I'm using ear (1) for 2 years, roughly, mind you folks. Mine fell from a train bunker to floor and collided with a metal still is fine. It took me almost 10 to 12 drops on a rough indian terrain to have a crack. But I agree about its glue getting loose. It has a balanced sound which can be better.
0:15 I just wanted to point out a mistake, in the top left it says "One Plus" as the maker which is, clearly, incorrect
I've had my ear ones for about 1.5 years and they're still going strong. No latency, nothing broke, still live for 6-8h playtime and no issues with in ear detection. I'm super excited for the ear twos now but there is literally no reason to buy them if my ones are still perfect. Just weird why you had so many issues
The charging case looks like packaging you'd throw away and think, "That was a waste of plastic."
this is one of my favorite short-circuit video
The point of transparency mode is to sound like it’s not in your ears tho, not suppress/amplify individual noises
Airpods pro 2 with adaptive transparency on do protect my ears while drumming. But the hi-hats can cause some weird sounds/pressure depending on how I play them
Didn't realize my ear(1) had wireless charging either until this week when I was looking at the spec comparisons between the (1) and (2). Also didn't catch there was a peel on the bottom of the cases! Was an early adopter of the (1) and don't have any usage complaints other than in ear detection was 💩when running or other vigorous activities. Yes it can be turned off, but just relegated them to desk use to drown out the ambient chatter in my open floor plan office and ear detection was flawless. Would love to audition the ear(2), but will wait for them to eventually come down to $99 (missed the $99 launch day discount...)
I need more IEM review like Tangzu, Moondrop, Salnotes, NiceHCK, etc etc, especially comparing expensive and the budget one.
Oh sad to hear that the gen1 were a bad experience for you I bought mine a couple months after launch and they are still going strong. They have been abused, soaked in water and sweat and dropped a lot and still work absolutely fine. I didn’t have any latency problems what do ever. The only problem with them is that it hasn’t Noice canceling on when I put them in, so I have to activate it manually over the app
I had my ear ones for almost a year now. Did not have issues with in ear sensor. However, I did experiance some bt disconnects but they are not frequent at all. One thing I had was the noise cancelation just randomly stoping to work while taking a bus or sth simmilar with a lot of background noise. After few second it kicked right up but I still experiance it. Still nice earphones for the price and I am happy overall.
3:18, I have had a pretty stellar run with my launch Ear (1)s. They sound noticeably better than my AirPods pro gen 1 and beats fit pro for on-the-go and gym use with iPhone and Android phones. Touch controls have never given me issues. I have always had fairly good connection. In-ear detection has been a bit hit and miss though.
have had the ear 1’s since May last year and the in ear detection and touch controls have been not great to say the least but as for the latency mine seems to be totally fine (watched the video with them) … might consider the ear 2’s
That 12kHz peak is usually caused by silicone eartips
"rice grains pinging off the side" Epic image! Hahaha
I was actually considering buying these a couple of days ago but I couldn’t find a react vid from someone I trusted. Thanks for the extra guidance!
1. Sponsorship spot win. 2. Anyone remember when Alex was first on camera VS now with the sound effects and the jokes? It's nice to see, really. Good job, dude.
As a user since launch, I've also have none of the issues that Alex mentioned, may be a bit product dependent, because my girlfriend bought herself a pair and had loads of issues that made her buy a pair of some other headphones but still got back to the ear(1), on her pair, the case had a lot of imperfections, such as specs of dust under the acrylic and stuff, the magnets a bit missaligned and stuff but mine were completely fine, a friend of mine also bought them about a week after me and had also no issues, still, for the money that they cost, you just cannot buy a better pair of in ear wireless headphones
This is why I have the Fiio UTW's and a good pair of IEM's. Audiophile quality, and if the adapters die no biggie I get a new one and keep the amazing IEM's.
