    She has no clue... but guess what? She will be fine. It is Raina up there all the time - constant cold, damp air. She just hates dealing with having to take her groceries in the house during the rain. Not building a garage attached to the house in the Pacific North West is dumb...real dumb. That lady is going to be fine. Especially now - her home is worth even more. She has more income than many single ladies her age.

I assume that based on the fact that she has six figures left on her mortgage, and three figures saved, and that's ALL her savings. If she has 2 payments a month, but not enough to save significantly or get rid of her debt, then those things are surely better than nothing, but a faulty safety net.

    The sad thing is she'll likely die before the house is paid off since she still owes 136K. I'm kind of surprised he didn't tell her to downsize, but if her monthly payments are low, and most importantly she has a roof over her head she's probably good staying there the remainder of her life. Thank goodness she has a teachers pension with SSN. 900.00 in savings is disheartening. With what teachers make today compared to many years ago she missed out on making a nice nest egg in her generation.

Dave is very bold and blunt ordinarily. He did not show that side at all. The lady is in a really bad position and she exposed herself publicly to ask for help. Dave made a conscious effort to not embarrass or shame her or make her sound stupid. That was merciful. That took love and restraint. Those are Christ-like qualities.

  • @michellewright99

    @michellewright99

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@tycobb2580 Jesus did not say a rich man will "never" go to heaven. In Matthew 19:16-26, young ruler is so attached to his possessions he didn't want to give them away to follow Jesus. Jesus then told his disciples, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." His disciples were amazed and possibly discouraged by this, and then Jesus said to them, "With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible." Again we see Jesus speak of a rich person in Luke 12:15-21. Jesus starts the parable by saying, "beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth." He then goes on to say how the man had more than enough and planned to keep his extra harvest all for himself. But God called him away unexpectedly and reminded the man (through a rhetorical question) that someone else would own all the goods he had tried to keep for himself. Jesus ended the story by saying, " So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God." So we see in both these cases, the person's HEART was tied to their wealth and not to God. The wealth in and of itself is not evil, nor does it cause evil. It is the attitude we have towards money that determines our standing with God. The Bible teaches us everything belongs to God and that we are to give to Him/the work of the Kingdom regularly, that we are to help those less fortunate and that we should be hard working, wise and industrious. The Bible also teaches us to be kind, compassionate, helpful and merciful. I see all these things being exhibited in Dave's teachings and in the way he handles this caller.

Quit my job and have the time of my life traveling the world in first class, enjoying only the finest meals, and buying a Porsche. I will take out as many private loans as possible to pay off my credit cards. Once I am no longer approved for additional loans or credit cards, I will use whatever credit I have left to fly to San Francisco and drive a Lamborghini off the Golden State Bridge.

    It wouldn't help. There's nothing she can do to improve her financial state. Yelling at her for past mistakes won't help her future because she doesn't have much of a future. This is miles different from the 25 year old who wants to buy a 70K truck on 50K income. Yell all you want then so that those habits don't perpetuate for 45 years.

    He does have a curriculum in schools. It's now in about 40% of schools nationwide if I remember correctly... Now depending on your state you may be lower or higher than that (none in my area have it). And you have to consider what percentage of high schoolers have enough of an attention span or care enough to learn anything. As for myself, I'm getting his homeschool curriculum when my kids are of age.

    I work in banking, and sadly I see 70-year-olds in much worse financial condition than her. I see lots of people living off social security with no other income, and no house to their name either. They depend on welfare and section 8 housing. It breaks my heart when I see it, and I see it often. The take-home message I get out of this experience is that a few minor lifestyle changes can make a world of difference someday.

    I went to a Wendy's not long ago and there were like 2 70+ year olds working there. I respect it but I could tell it they were there because they had to work. You should be relaxing at that age. Unfortunately, most of us will work until we die. I'm 40 and saving and trying to pay off debt but no matter how I break it down I will end up working until I die.
