I learned a system to work without motivation

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

"Its not about how many times you fail, it's about whether you get back up or not." have you ever wished you could complete projects without any stress, and not lose energy and motivation halfway through? Maybe you envisioned yourself as endlessly productive?
I think most of us don’t have that ability. We procrastinate, put things off, and have poor discipline. I know for me, I’m pretty envious when I look at people who seem to effortlessly succeed.
In this video I attempt to make a system to solve this for good.
Thanks for watching my goofy video, subscribe for more stuff like this! Please let me know if you have any feedback, good or bad. I always want to get better! Also looking for youtube friends 👍

Evin, is it possible you are an ENFP, INFP, or other cognitive type that has high Ne (extroverted intuition)? People with strong creative/ideation functions like Ne can sometimes *seem* like they have ADD/ADHD, when it is not necessarily so. They just appreciate possibilities and novelty and are exceptionally skilled at making connections and seeing implications; and there often has to be intrinsic motivation in that you highly value the thing/task in and of itself, or have very strong almost do-or-die extrinsic motivation for something to stick (not in the usual sense of what is described as extrinsic, but rather, things like deadlines or your livelihood depending on it.) Anyway, just food for thought.

i have had had similar problems with procrastination, lack of motivation, and not sticking to a routine. I dont think of myself as very disciplined or motivated, but with a lot of trial and error I have come up with a lot of ways to get stuff done. I strongly recommend the book "Atomic Habits" if you havent read it yet. It has a lot of advice about how to basically trick yourself into good habits with small changes. The timer thing you mentioned was huge for me. I found that i am much better at processing time-based goals rather than results-based goals (i.e work for 20 minutes vs work until I reach the end). ultimately the thing that helped it click for me was thinking of my actions as "putting in a vote" for the version of myself that I want to be. It's like a piggy bank - sometimes you'll put in a quarter, sometimes you might shove a 20 dollar bill in there, but always put something in.

My favourite part of this system is that I do all of those things but separately through time. I'm both autistic and adhd, and need to externalise a lot of my mental process and prepare before I start doing something, so seeing all of those things as one system was like the last piece I needed in my puzzle. Thank you very much! 🥰

I think the most novel part about this that seems will be helpful to me (yet to try it, just stumbled upon this video), is visualizing the points of struggle and frustration ahead of time. It's putting my brain in to problem solving mode around these points before I even get to them. I can imagine it'll help get around them easier and find ways to not let them surprise me. A therapist once helped me by having me visualize the task and how I'll feel while working on it and imagine the feeling of completing the job. This adds on to that.

I’ve watched so many vids 😫😫 on this topic and this was told gold. On top of its powerful effectiveness and practical ‘do-ability’, it was comforting. Procrastination and lack of motivation, are cruelly hurtful to us. We are creative beinf and we need to do our thing. What I loved best here is twofold. The simplicity of this model means you can start it with so little effort. It is so clear and low effort. It grows motivation. Secondly, the tone and approach of this channel is soothing but powerful. Hard balance to strike, so thanks a lot. I am really indebted to you for this vid.

This reminds me of something I have learned years ago and that you might want to implement in your system : ONE THING. DO ONE THING. So, I have a big big life-changing plan for about 4 years from now. I could spend all my days now studying 10 hr a day, or 3 hours a day, or read three papers every day, ... go to conferences, listen to podcasts, have a strict routine to accomplish my plan, OR... watch endless episodes of something and do nothing. I struggle with keeping up the good work - not with motivation in itself - so I oblige myself to do at least ONE THING every day that takes me towards my final dream. Sometimes it is studying 10 hours per day, others though is just cleaning my desk, or sorting my emails, or checking flight costs, or reading one page, or rearranging my books around, or do some brainstorming while walking. Sometimes just hoovering my room is enough. What I find important is the motivation behind: remembering that I do even one small thing TOWARDS my dream > hoovering and dusting my room reminds me that I am taking care of myself, that I can sleep better tonight and tomorrow I am back on the books. BTW, congrats of living in Italy. Benvenuto! That's my home country even if I moved to Manchester some 15 years ago -ish. Ciao!

I use a similar analogy to your grocery store and video creation analogies when I’m encouraging young professionals to make a leap. I use transitioning to high school. The campus is sometimes big and scary, you don’t know what to expect and you’re certain you’ll never reach the confidence you see in the upperclassman. Without an alternative short of dropping out, you forge ahead and discover your ability to adapt has gone without notice or self recognition. You got shoved into the deep end and figured out how to swim, but after a very short time, swimming is just what you do and you forget the hardship of the transition. Recognizing and celebrating your wins, your perseverance, can be used as encouragement to jump into deeper waters because you’ve already proven you can learn what you need to learn to be successful. Everything is figureoutable.

I also have chronic health conditions that fluctuate so some days I can put a little work on a project, some days a lot, some days none. If I have to pause a project for health reasons it's difficult to motivate myself to get back on track when I am able to resume it. Or it's a struggle to remember where I left off. That's where having an outline like you described might help!

Also to add on cause I've learned that motivation and discipline will come and go. We're only human. So try to make whatever goal you have try to make it as clear as possible and whatever you need to do to achieve it try to make it as easy as possible so there's no way you will not do it.

I expect this does work very well as it combines 3 very well known and researched techniques. 1. Finding your WHY 2. Planning so you know roughly what to expect, especially challenges 3. Working in 20 minute chunks

I can totally see the inspiration from Nathaniel Drew's style and that's OK, specially at the beginning. You're probably going to find your own distinctive voice soon because I can tell that you have your own personality and that you're funny. This video is working so I hope gives you the motivation you need to continue on your journey. Cheers from Spain, maybe we'll speak in Spanish in a near future!

Hello Evain! Awesome video. You have developed a very simple and effective system to help people identify and streamline goal development. The information you've provided in this video is practical and useful, and that's why people are watching it. Keep up the good work. You obviously have something important to share. One thing I would advise is that you consult a health care professional and get tested to see if you are ADHD. You express a lot of ADHD symptoms in this video. This is something I have had my whole life that went not diagnosed and misdiagnosed as depression until just recently. Like you, I developed systems to help me manage the symptoms of my condition, but I never seem to do better or feel more motivated to do better. Since my diagnosis, I have started taking medication that has helped me so much with my focus and motivation. The quality of my life has improved greatly, and I have learned that the symptoms I am experiencing are resulting from a medical condition that is happening to me not because I am an "airhead " or because I am "just stupid ". I am now 58 years old. I truly wish I had known this when I was younger. I am not saying you are ADHD, but to go get tested. If you are ADHD, with proper diagnosis and treatment, the quality of your life can improve greatly. You are already doing great things with your life. Keep up the good effort, and don't let anyone or anything keep you from reaching your full potential. ❤

I definitely think this process is a great idea. I do have another step for myself. It's kind of part of the why but it's more of a what. For instance, I want to clean my room. But what do I really want from it? What do I want it to look like? When I have that what, there will be some why's that come out but I can flesh out some more whys and then move on to the things that get in the way. I don't know that every project needs to have that extra what step but even so, it's still a bit helpful. In your Spanish idea, learn Spanish but the what could be as simple as traveling phrases to get you by or enough fluency to really get to know the people. It's slightly different than the why. I guess the why and what step is kind of an overlap that not all people would need to separate. Hope I make sense. Awesome to see that you are taking off and look forward to what's next. I'm cool so I had to subscribe. :D
