At the beginning of the pandemic, I had an anxiety attack. It was the first one I’ve had in over six years. I filmed this as I was working through it.
The world is a roller coaster right now so I wanted to share this video because I’m sure you or someone you love is feeling anxious right now. I want you to know you’re not alone and there are simple things you can do to take control of your mind and body when you feel like it’s starting to spiral.
In the video you’ll see that my anxiety disappears as I take my own advice. I hope this video helps you feel a little better too ❤️

Amanda, Action needs to be taken. Meditation heals anxiety as it reprogrammes the mind. Watch alternate nostril breathing meditation videos on Google and do it for 5 to 10 minutes if possible twice a day. You can sit on a chair and do it. Second technique is to close eyes, sit in one place with back erect without moving for 5 to 10 minutes-Be still and observe your breath. Negative thoughts will reduce. Shyaaam Sir, Mentor. Make meditation a daily habit.

At one point in my life, I was so caught up in being perfect for everyone, a people pleaser and lost myself. I ended up with severe panic attacks that caused a 6 week, zero sleep massive panic attack. I felt like I was suffocating with any walls around me and used to go sit in the backyard to breathe a little. With the walls I started pacing like a caged animal. (I now don't believe in Zoos because of my caged animal feelings during panic attacks). My muscles were burning and twitching, I would black out for 15 minutes because of shear exhaustion. Even then during the blackouts, I was experiencing nightmares of being stabbed. I could not escape. It took a while to get back to normal, with daily jogging. My weight slipped down to 100 lbs soaking wet. It actually felt like I drank 5 pots of Starbucks jitter coffee, not nice! Any food I ate came right out of me. I've just described what a full blown severe panic attack is all about. I am typing this out as explicit as I can so that anyone who reads this starts to look for the signs and catches themselves before it goes too far. You CANNOT please everyone. In my situation, my mother and fiance were "Narcissists" and drove me off the edge with their toxicity. (I later divorced and moved 2 states away from my mother to keep my sanity). If you can't sleep at night due to anxiety, keep a note pad next to your bed night stand and write down in list form, everything that is racing on your mind. Take that paper and curl it up in a ball and throw it in the waste basket and recite, "Lord I did the best I can for today, I know you will take care of the rest while I sleep. Amen" Then leave it in the waste basket for the night....If you are stuck in a severe panic attack, get someone to talk with you in person or on the phone, about something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Anything, other than how you are feeling anxious. This is extremely helpful on refocusing and stopping racing thoughts in your mind or a sense of wanting to pace. I hope this message will ring clear for those and help someone along the way. And yes Mel you are not alone, so many out there with anxiety panic attacks. Thank you for creating a "Platform" for many to know they are not alone regarding this. I finally conquered mine, and it was truly severe! Write it out, move, treat yourself as a priority. Get enough magnesium and potassium in your diet as well. Most people who have panic attacks are extremely low in magnesium and potassium. For those who are caught in the loop, Lexapro does work well and you can go on that for a while until you stablize and can taper off it. After my divorce I achieved two masters degrees and passed 3 separate board certification license exams one right after another, in teaching. I've come a long way. So can you, Know that change, though it may NOT feel like it at the time, is a "Blessing in Disguise"....I've arrived at a good place in my life now. I hope this for you as well. .Peace out.... Marilyn, A Connecticut Teacher....

When I’m having a panic attack, I run cold water over my wrists or hold a cold facecloth on my face. It stops my racing heart and brings me back to reality. Then I can think again. Usually I get my notebook and write, doodle, cuss out the world, whatever keeps me holding on to reality and takes my mind off the panic. Do anything to bring down the adrenaline. I used to pinch myself but that led to black and blues that had to be explained the next day. My stomach usually gets upset at this time also. Anxiety and panic have bothered me since childhood. Also depression. But I have survived and am productive, just don’t overdue and take on too much. I am 82.

Alot of times, I take myself on what I call a "think walk" and try to go to areas I haven't been before - maybe its like a confirmation to me that life keeps moving outside of my bubble - scenarios keep changing and remind myself that everything is temporary recite my problem or anxiety episode in my head in past tense - to hear what it sounds like in past tense, as if I were telling somebody else one day "i remember this time when..." - and doing this sequence often helps me resolve it. I literally have no friends to call, cleaned the slate a couple years ago to regenerate self - so its a self-soothing technique I've developed. Everything you said here is so valuable, especially the movement part.

I am so appreciative of a life coach, speaker, author, influencer, and TV personality who is so open and honest. You are voicing, Mel, what so many people are feeling and experiencing at this time. You are going to have so much to share in the coming years that I can't wait to hear of the journey you went through during 2020/Covid time period. You know the lessons will become clearer as time passes. As an introvert, it is a challenge for me to keep connected. Left to my own introverted devices I can cocoon quite well. So though I don't understand the extrovert needs as well, I do know that introverts have to be very careful not to become too secluded. It is not healthy long term. I need those reasons to get out and push myself into the community and interact with other humans outside of my amazing immediate family. Hang in there!

When I had a panic attack, I immediately called my mom on a phone. It helped me so much to talk to someone. My panic attack got so much better by just talking on the phone with someone. Try to call someone if you have a panic attack next time. 🙏

I just had my first ever full-on panic attack yesterday evening. Most terrifying thing I've ever experienced. I'm very happy to say I had all the right reflexes and I managed to keep a grip on myself for a full 2+ hours of absolute madness. Thank you so much for this video, I can relate to every single word. ❤

No one wants to hear what I have to say. I'm usually the one listening to everyone else's problems. When I start sharing my struggles with those I feel are my support system. I always start to feel like a whiney cry baby. Which makes me feel worse. And so, I continue smiling on the outside and am sad on the inside. 🤷‍♀️

I wrote down the steps you recommended and will implement those next time these feelings arise for me.

Mel Robbins you’re a very brave women because you show us that not everybody’s live is fine and perfect but that we all struggle sometimes but that okay and what I want to tell you is that when you breathe and let the feelings pass they leave sooner than when you try to avoid them and escape. I love you and you guys on the comments ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️and you are strong 💪

Thank you Mel. I have just discovered you, I guess I'm late to the party. I've only listened to a couple of your videos & I can so feel a connection to everything you are saying. For the first time (I've listened to many videos) I feel like I'm talking to a friend, I feel as though you are talking to me & not reading from a script or notes sitting in front of you. I've had a panic attack not too long ago. I started crying(almost out of control). & almost hyperventilating, I was starting to gasp for air. Realizing what was happening, I just told myself "don't go there" "breathe, take deep breathes". I willed it away. After several yes in a very dark place, this past winter(year) was kind of the tip of the iceberg. I've reached out to a group of friends, who jumped to my support, I've started journaling & let me tell you some days the words are flying on that page. Also got back to working out. And , for the first time, started taking an antidepressant. I hate it, but can't say I didn't try. I don't know where I am yet, don't know where I'm going, haven't found my way out of the dark- but I'm starting to make a plan. Thank you again.
