At first, I honestly thought an American blue zone would be boring and weird. Don't get me wrong, some parts are. But I want to learn Everything they do at that vegan restaurant. I am here for that today. 🙄 I _guess_ I want to see cultural comparisons in other countries? But I'm mostly in it for the food. And I want to see some surprisingly old bodybuilders, but I prolly won't. 😏

Fun facts about Regina (5:24): • 7:09 Her late husband was among the founding members of the Romanian SDA church in Loma Linda • 9:32 No joke, she actually was there and has walked that exact trail (among all the others) many times in Hulda Crooks Park. • 2:53 She faithfully keeps the Sabbath each and every Friday sunset to Saturday sunset, splitting her attendance between the University Church (shown briefly to the right of the statues) and Campus Hill Church (not shown in the video but very close by). • She's 90 and said she intends to outlive her children. And I think she will... • She's my mother and the best in the whole world!

I had dated someone who was a 7th Day Adventist, didn't eat meat, didn't mind if I did, but I didn't eat it as often in front of him or his family. They were Mexican too, converted from Catholicism. Best vegterian Mexican food I've ever experienced in my life! They opened a whole new world to me when it came to Vegan and Vegterian cuisine. I remember when he made a comment on my body saying I had no cellulite what so ever. THAT WAS A HUGE DEAL FOR ME! We are no longer together, sadly because our religious views were sort of clashing, but I still eat more vegan to vegetarian to this day. 😊

The people are so nice, my neighbor behind me is in his 70s, has cancer and is in treatment for it, but he goes out every Friday to deliver food for meals on wheels. He's also into playing music, does astral photography, stays busy & is always out doing something. He makes me feel like a complete sloth. I do my cardio outside in the area, usually around the university, built a nice little home gym in my garage, not a bad spot. I also have to tell my barber that you walked past his shop. 😂😂 Cheers.

My mom is Seventh-day Adventist from sundown Friday until sundown. Saturday is the sabbath you are not to buy sell or trade anything, it is even in the Bible unless you’ donkey is in a ditch. You are not to do any kind of work is a vegan and vegetarian diet but you can eat meat you just can’t eat pork or scavengers of the sea. I myself am not a Seventh-day Adventist. I am just a Christian, but Sunday is the first day of the week and Saturday is the seventh day and that’s when the Lord took rest if you don’t know about it right up in your king James version Bible. You’re also not supposed to listen to anything but Christian music during those 24 hours and you are not supposed to watch television, in the Bible, it says to remember the sabbath day, and to keep it holy. If you want to know about Seventh-day Adventist, I can tell you all about it.

It was incredible to see how strong these 90-something year olds were. They all had something in common, they were all Seventh Day Adventist and all were vegetarians. I loved working in Loma Linda because businesses had to be closed before sundown on Friday and closed on Saturday. It was great not to have to work on Saturdays because most banks were opened in other cities. Lunch breaks were a pain because I had to drive to San Bernardino to get fast food such as McDonald's and In-N-Out Burger.

I was a bit surprised - I didn't expect to see exercise opportunities *OUTSIDE* of hiking in Loma Linda - I also thought it was closer to LA (I thought it was just outside Ontario, CA) - I don't think they always had a variety of sports activities and esp. not for people under 50 but I could be wrong. The only thing missing was a gym review (did they have any decent gyms there?). They have been a center of vegetarianism since their founding and have slowly become a force for vegetarianism throughout the USA through a series of food enterprises. In a sense they could be seen historically as a counterpoint to exercise centric Venice Beach.

@@DaPeasant im not american lol, im korean, in korea the biggest killer in America is 100% their ultra processed foods, its not even a debate, the only reason these vegans are living longer is they're inadvertently avoiding those franchise processed foods with those vegan options some of the other blue zones eat daily meat, there's even one blue zone where they're practically drunk off red wine 24/7, the only thing all blue zones have in common is the rare combo of no ultra processed foods + first world medical care, since most places with first world medical care also have an abundance of ultra processed foods as for the portions, it's fine as long as you burn it off, most people don't in america though, though not "directly" a health issue, it is a huge obesity contributor which then leads to other health issues but in this topic, just keeping a healthy weight won't be enough to reach the longevity of the people in these blue zones, were talking about 100 years old, not 70, these obese people you're talking about don't even make it to 70

I live in a medium size city (250k) in Germany. Except in the mainstation and on a few industrialparks on the outskirts there is not a single McDonalds, Starbucks or similar chain. No one is missing it and no one complains. There is a lot of Lokal cafes, restaurants and even fast food (kebab for example), but most of them single or dual stores. It gives lots of choices, variety and competition. I don’t now if outright banning those chains is the right move but it’s certainly nice like this. But my town is also not very car centric. So even the smalls Shops get a lot of attention in a mostly car free city center.

Awww, this video made me smile. I was raised SDA and as a kid the ONLY vegetarian food was by the Lima Linda Worthington brands. I live in Oregon. We had to go to the Adventist Book Center to get it. My friends loved veggie burger, scallops, vege dogs, Swiss steaks but not one of them like Nuteena. Yuuuuuummm, Nuteena. The church puts on a camp called Campmeeting every July and the concessions were all vegetarian and I was in heaven. I went to a SDA summer camp and it was all vegetarian and some of the non SDA kids were like what the heck but again, I was in heaven. I’ve always been vegetarian but recently switched to vegan. My daughter came in to the room as he was walking down the grocery isle and we loved the huge veggie food cans on display in the freezer/fridge section. When he went into the Asian vegan restaurant I am now convinced we need to take a vacation to Lima Linda just for the food haha yuuuum. To be honest Portland does great with vegan options but we live in the suburbs so eh. When he said there were donkeys on the hike I thought he was kidding “the donkeys are hiding because they are the only protein here jn Loma Linda” haaaaahaha. And then there were donkeys. I’ve never seen this guys videos but he’s funny. You go Loma Linda. Love you. But let’s take down the cost of the canned “meats” I paid almost $20 for a can of scallops recently……..

"Are donkeys lethal?" LOL! I grew up in Riverside, and used to ride my bike around Loma Linda. It was chill back then too.

Hey, great video! Honest perspective, especially on the vegetarian food! I gotta try that breakfast burrito at the cafe you went to in the beginning. My daughter works in that same building, in the media dept making movies for the church. That was cool to see my MOM, Loida!!! She was the one playing pickleball. And the trails....that's where I've been mountain biking and coaching homeschool kids to ride mtn bikes for almost 30 years. Lots of cool trails of all levels. Glad you got to hike it! I remember when the McD's was coming in, and all the commotion. You actually got one of my colleagues talking about the danger of McDs towards our kids! LOL! Glad you got the Vegan District...that's one of the more recent restaurants here in town and a good one--I like going there. In that area, there are a ton of eating places. You must've visited that Romanian church during the middle of the week--it's not always open. In fact, it's literally like a few blocks from my house where I live. Was curious during your walk on campus, it was empty--when did you shoot this? Were we in between quarters? Was this during the summer when there were no students around? With 8 different schools at Loma Linda University, we have about 3,000 students on campus so it's usually busy all over the place, especially between classes. So you must've caught it at a dead time. You're right about the number of churches in the Loma Linda area. We have a lot of different ethnic and multi-cultural churches in Loma Linda and the surrounding cities, a lot of them SDA but other denominations as well. Thanks for showcasing our hometown and workplace! You did a great job showing LL as the Blue Zone.

Thank you for mentioning that this was probably filmed during a dead season. I thought it looked a bit dystopian not having any people around. It looks like an interesting place and I would definitely want to learn more.
