The reason that other snake breeders normally cut all of the eggs open the day after the first one starts pipping is because captive bred snakes can sometimes lack an egg tooth. So a perfectly healthy baby snake can end up drowning in their own amniotic fluid because they don't have an egg tooth. In the wild this would mean that the snake would succumb to natural selection, But in captivity most snake breeders want their babies to have the highest chance of success.
