@@alexmontain8942 the white powder is called flux, and it's there to help with oxidation as well. Primarily with oxidation already on the nails, and before the glass and all nails melt, and the glass forms a layer on top

Those aren't brass nails. Brass plated maybe, but that would cost hundreds and take a lot of time to separate the brass plating from the steel. Which he didn't show. He changed metals.

They use something similar to purify silver; I assume it serves the same purpose here. It might be "borax glass" it looks like broken glass but it's anhydrous borax that has been melted to remove water.

Well he cuts of the excess metal way to closed and gets a polished finishes with a sanding belt, if I had to guess I’d say the whole video is a load of BS a and the final result was milled from a billet of brass

What makes sand a good molding material? I'm sure it handles heat well but how sustainable is the casting during pour? Does it lose shape easily?

It is not just sand,mold sand is mixed with some binders and cooked. After cooking it becomes more rigid. Notice the sand around the mold is loose and and different color than the mold sand that is probably why you asked the question

Those aren't brass nails. Brass plated maybe, but that would cost hundreds and take a lot of time to separate the brass plating from the steel. Which he didn't show. He changed metals.

@@Destructaconn Exactly my point. But Brass can be found in plain old faucets and a whole lot cheaper than brass nails. Pay attention to the nail heads. Steel yes, brass, no. Just my opinion.

They use something similar to purify silver; I assume it serves the same purpose here. It might be "borax glass" it looks like broken glass but it's anhydrous borax that has been melted to remove water.

Well he cuts of the excess metal way to closed and gets a polished finishes with a sanding belt, if I had to guess I’d say the whole video is a load of BS a and the final result was milled from a billet of brass

@@PuntoHowto yeah that seems about right. There’s a few red flags in this video. A few careful edits. I’d expect a nice looking 8 like that from Chris from Clickspring, but not here. The video doesn’t hold water.

The 8 is too perfect even when adding the ink, you see the flawless lines. I couldn’t ever get it but this had to have been done by hand once before a machine. But today? IDK

Плавку проводят под покровным флюсом - стеклом или бурой, чтобы предупредить взаимодействие с кислородом. Первой в печь загружают медь, затем отходы и меднокремнистую лигатуру. Цинк загружают в расплав последним, после того как будет удален шлак.

What makes sand a good molding material? I'm sure it handles heat well but how sustainable is the casting during pour? Does it lose shape easily?

It is not just sand,mold sand is mixed with some binders and cooked. After cooking it becomes more rigid. Notice the sand around the mold is loose and and different color than the mold sand that is probably why you asked the question
