its not the radiation dose that kills you, its how long you're exposed that kills you. so if that's 14 µSv per HOUR- that's 336 µSv/day. say he filmed like 15 minutes with it, 1220 CPM * 15 min = 18,300 counts.

6:40 I teared up from this. I could feel the pure joy coming from Mark as that bite took him back to his childhood. It's like that scene from ratatouille where Ego eats the food and you see the flashback. He's not here anymore; he's back at home, enjoying this with his dad among everything else they did. (This is as far as I've gone in the video. I don't know if he talks about any of this stuff after that moment, it was just a beautiful moment and I wanted to say that.)

@@slayerkifonna6831 hi, here's the explanation I got from another comment "IIRC the main form of radiation emitted by the Uranium Oxide in the glaze is alpha radiation, which is fully stopped by a single sheet of paper, let alone human skin, so it poses little/no risk to us. This of course changes once the glazed is damaged (or if the food is highly acidic, like pasta sauce) as then the uranium oxide can leech into your food (alongside lead), and once you eat it you no longer have the safety barrier of your skin between you and the alpha particles, which is what causes issues"

​@@boopussnoopusI don't like to necropost in the comments but I'll reply to this anyways While it's true that uranium primarily emits alpha radiation, I believe a lot actually ends up contained by the glaze. So the vast majority of detectable radiation coming from glazed pottery would be beta (especially) and some gamma. These types of non-specialised geiger counters are very beta sensitive and tend to way overestimate the radiation dose too; They estimate what the dose is purely based on the amount of particles that hit the tube, but don't take into account the energy of that radiation, which is what you need to determine the dose. And yes, consuming small parts of the glaze or uranium that had leached out would not be healthy, but not the end of the world either. Uranium (as a heavy metal) is quite toxic, and that would be much more of a concern than the relatively low levels of radioactivity

the fact there was this super wholesome, super sweet and toucing moment right and then marks like " *and then my dad just SWUNG at the fire alarm* " this video is honestly just so wholesome to watch though, love it

When he tasted it and got emotional, I cried a little. He obviously had very fond memories with his father and tasting it really brought him back to it. It's that kind of nostalgia that keeps his father alive in him. I bet they had a wonderful relationship and I'm sure even all these years later he misses him like crazy.

I've done this by drinking diet coke. Brings me right back to my grandma's house and all the memories that brings. I don't really like Diet Coke anymore, but my Grandma loved Diet Coke, and it was the soda she always had. I had Diet Coke a month ago, after not drinking it for years, and I just suddenly had a rush of nostalgia, almost like I was directly back in the kitchen of her house, drinking a can of Diet Coke. It was the weirdest sensation. Exactly! The tearing up, the house, the garage, he didn't understand why the cheese made him think of that but they all have one thing in common. Psychologically, doing something again after 20 years when he used to do it with his dad, every single time, of course it's going to bring back the well of memories. Things you buried or thought you moved on from...it's sad but...also really happy. That's the same way I get when I examine rings in a jewelry store, I remember sitting in my grandmas room as she showed me every single piece of jewelry.

Amy really was there for him. Usually, when he's doing random things that don't explicitly involve her, like the sour patch series, he'll offer her some of what he's trying, and she'll almost always decline. But here, it's nice that she saw how sensitive of a moment it was for him and tried a food that was so important to him, especially given how many times he stressed in this video how irregular the taste and smell is, and how most people wouldn't like it.

By no means do I believe in astrology, but it's the first thing that pops into my mind when it comes to like-minded people. This may be my favorite mark review. It's so down to earth and nostalgic despite not having these experiences myself. It makes me feel in these dark times.

This was very wholesome and nice. "This was fucked by a wasp?!" made me giggle uncontrollably for half an hour

Imagine how confused the Limburger cheese people are going to be when they suddenly get an influx of customers buying their spread out of nowhere after this video

The look on Mark's face as he took his first bite. You could see him welling up, and the smile that spread across his face. That warmed my dead and shriveled heart.

I literally was crying while mark was tearing up bc I can just feel the emotion and excitement at the same time for being brought back in time with important people in your life at the time. Just the memories of simpler times and recognizing how it was back then vs now is crazy

"evacuate immediately, call government" Eh it's fine, it's like Chernobyl in the palm of your hand

nostalgia thru the senses is something that has always fascinated and moved me, i’m so glad we got to see mark experience it like this

I will, continue to occasional come back and watch this video to see the genuine happiness on Marks face. It makes me feel wholesome.

Is it some kind of requirement that fathers MUST like Fig Newtons? Because they were always my dad's favorites, and were a staple on many family road trips. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I came to this video to see the full radioactive pottery clip. But, I lost my dad yesterday, and seeing Mark just smiling and so happy because of this cheese that he had with his dad 20 years ago is weirdly comforting and kind of exactly what I needed to see. Anyway, just wanted to throw this into the KZread void: thank you, mark, for the radioactive laughs and everything else.

As soon as i saw the geiger counter and heard dishes, I knew it was going to be orange. I knew they put uranium in orange paint but dang it was a lot.

Depends on the type of radiation tho. Gamma aint as bad as other radiation as its basically just vibrations. The other two (kinda forgot. Been a while) are dangerous amd definetly at these amounts. This cup most likely has gamma radiation.

Mark's extreme concern over Amy's radioactive dishware was GOLD.

@supreme world leader the Geiger counter measures in CPMs which measures electron counts. MSVs measures the damage in relation to time. 100 CPMs is concerning, so 1200 CPMs is dangerous. I hope they have taken steps to contain it.

It was very common in the pre-1930s because of the orange color uranium would give off when fired in a kiln, a small teacup is usually harmless though.

So for context on the orange cup, the orange glaze used to produce some dishware in the prewar era included uranium 232, over time radon 222 becomes a biproduct and leaks out thru cracks in the glaze, this is why the orange cup is potentially unsafe

Watching mark relive his childhood is one of the few things that make me instantly smile even on the darkest of days. Thank you for all the smiles you give me and everyone else mark. ☺️

No yeah but seriously around that time it was pretty commun that pottery industries were making uranium things like litterally check if your house/appartement was made in the 1920-1940 because it may contain some wierd paint xD

2,200CPM isn't dangerous in of itself, it's only if he drunk from it, he was mildly irradiate not contaminated, the reason it is radioactive is because the glaze contains uranium, this couldn't transfer into the food/drink unless they had high acid content which would allow some of the radioactive elements into the the food/drink, the food/drink would be irradiated but that in of itself wouldn't matter as if you irradiate say some water it doesn't make the water dirty, if anything it would kill the bacteria in the water making it safer, if it was contaminated like a piece chipped off into it and then someone drunk it then it would be an issue, but as amy said it is fine.

he said it was 14 microsieverts and 2000 millisieverts (or 2 sieverts) is the lethal dose of radiation. 14 microsieverts into millisieverts is 0.014 millisieverts. so its safe as long you do not eat from it

@@razormarkz The old cups were used to be made with "Uranium" which had a color and they thought about putting that in household table mterials, the uranium itself doesnt actually make the uranium glass dsngerous and its actually other elements found in the uranium core
