God. When he started talking about the 'millions' of 'families' waiting to foster/ adopt children, my heart sank. I grew up in care. That, sadly, isn't the reality at all. I get the impression this young man has had a very sheltered life, which as I said in my other comment, makes it incredibly easy for him to sit there and judge others, doesn't it?! Edit: soo by his logic ... if you are raped you have a duty to love and protect the rapists child? I'm sorry. I know this is controversial, but personally... I don't think I could look into the eyes and face of someone who reminded me of the rape every day. And besides that, bringing a child into that mess would be chaos.

@@Joseph.A.J.C.Etheridge I was a newborn baby that wasn't adopted .... because this isn't the reality at all! It is HARD to adopt a child. Lots of legal stuff, paperwork then not to mention everyday costs etc. Also, a lot of bad people are drawn to the social care system, (or social scare system, as I like to call it 😉) for financial reasons, you can get grants for fostering children etc. And the more you have the more money you get. Foster parents abuse kids ALL. THE. TIME. It happens regularly in care homes as well. Where are the millions of loving families waiting for these kids??? Because I sure as hell, never saw them. Neither did the hundreds of other kids I met in care.... I kept in touch with a few. We all agreed that social services SCREWED our life up.

@S it sounds like you had a bad experience, and I'm not denying that experience, it just isn't the norm if we look statistically. Over 60% of newborns given up for adoption are adopted immediately and a further 60% of the remaining are adopted within a year. Children who were adopted at birth jave no measurable difference in quality of life to children raised by their biological parents, studies have been done and the chance of them being abused if they were adopted at birth is the same as people who are raised by their biological parents.

You drew the line when you had Intercourse knowing full well that Intercourse is for creating life not to take a life. Naturally Medical or Rape issues may arise & that's acceptable. Hard core advocates would argue in a rape situation to either have & raise the baby the right way or give it up for adoption. Me personally I say it's their choice because they know they will be pregnant so they can take the day after pill or talk to doctor to monitor growth & abort at the earliest instead of say 8 months.

If men could get pregnant, abortions would be cut by a large percentage and it wouldn't be such a large scale concern. The reason? Because women are the gate keepers to sex. Men have far less sex than women do. There are more male virgins than there are female. If society were to stay the same outside of this, men would still be the providers and protectors, they would still be the ones who need to be convinced of the idea of marriage, they would protect their need for success as providers by being calculated in their prevention of getting pregnant. Things might actually be better if men were to be the ones who got pregnant because we could do away with all the monetary incentives women have to get pregnant while they're single and no one would be expected to pay child support.

I think that one issue that people forget about isn’t just bodily autonomy for the woman who needs the abortion. I had severe mental health issues after having both of my wonderful children, so bad that I tried to take my own life, I heard voices and was genuinely so poorly that I wasn’t a very present mother and to this day I feel guilt and try to make up for the “lost time”. I’ve tried a LOT of different contraceptives and they hurt my body and made me more mentally unwell. Whilst ON these contraceptives I miscarried twice however if they had been viable I would’ve had to have abortions and I would’ve been devastated doing so. But if I did give birth I would risk my own life and almost definitely go back to being medically psychotic. My children that I have deserve the most wonderful life and mother and I would think it selfish to have more children when I am incapable due to my mental health to be a present mother after birth. I am healthier now, I still struggle with mental health issues but have a lot of support. I decided to get sterilised at age 26 and have no regrets at all. My two little boys are the best people in my life and they have been at the centre of every decision I have made. I imagine if these pregnancies were viable and I kept them that I would be seen as sapping the state resources and that people like me shouldn’t be allowed to breed. Ultimately my sons deserve a present and healthy mother and that for me outweighs the potential life that would’ve came from having more children.

@@RaciePSB I have to disagree. Having another child, the physical process and hormonal impact is what has made me go into these episodes, according to medical opinion. It’s completely nothing to do with personal circumstance or just feeling like I can’t handle being a mother. The chemicals and the way my body reacts to pregnancy is why I shouldn’t ever be pregnant again. During both pregnancies I started to get the psychotic moments and feeling like I was in a fog. In every scenario other than me never getting pregnant, I would fall sick again. I often said to my doctors that my body is allergic to pregnancy and in a way I was right. I’ve been diagnosed with PMDD which is why I still suffer now. I am so proud of my decision and was so grateful to be supported as the nhs very rarely will allow you to get sterilised in your mid 20’s. I think it’s easy to say just have the baby and adopt them out but I’m still left probably fighting for my life and not being a mother for my own children. @@TheRealLucyMae We are actually in disagreement, you have just filled in the rest of the picture. I know firsthand that some women just aren't cut out for pregnancy and or childbearing/raising. My own sister had to argue doctors to be allowed her tubal ligation at 27, stating she did NOT want children and never would, and if for some reason she were to change her mind she would take her chances on a reversal operation in the future. She was told that it would be a costly operation if she did need it, to which she stated that if she couldn't afford it she would have no business bringing a baby into the world because they cost even more! Fastforward many years and she did have that reversal, after marrying a staunch catholic and being persuaded to have first one, then another child. Interestingly she became pregnant on the operating table, she jokes, and her husband was stationed overseas at the time. They had done it a few days prior and she swears it is the sperm in her fallopian tract at the time that would have resulted in her first pregnancy when the tubes were reconnected.

I don't think the debate will change until we come to a consensus of what "life" means. Therein lies the discontinuity in the discussion. According to my dentist I have lots of "life" in my mouth that would ruin my teeth unless I brush my teeth regularly and floss. I was told I have more bacterias in my mouth than under my toilet seat. It sounds scary until you ask for specifics: what type of bacterias? Good or bad? I mean humans have existed longer than toilet seats. What about skin cells? They're "alive" until they aren't and get replaced with new ones. You have a lot of cells that die and are replaced with new ones. Every few years you are biologically not the same person as you were before. Think of your nails and hair, but it's down to your molecules. Am I committing abortion whenever I donate my healthy alive and well blood plasma?

I am not going to say a fetus or embryo isn't alive. I'm saying that for how heavy a pregnancy is on the body and mind of a woman who does not want it, there should be a time limit to decide if you want to go through with it. I think that if I dont want another human to use and damage my body for nine months. And all forms of contraceptives have horrible side effects. And no, I won't close my legs, I think intimacy should be enjoyed with your loved one. Our biology is holding us back as humans, lets stop making womens life worse for the sake of a developing human being.

I disagree with "my body, my choice" because it's not your body, it's the foetus' body. That baby had a unique genetic code, which would determine sex, hair colour, eye colour, height etc, and they've been killed. I cringed when the woman on the right say "woman are empowered" - really, empowered to kill? Empowered to get rid of an inconvenience? Women, feel empowered by working, being active whilst being a mother.

I think of society as a whole would change the view that being sexual and wearing as little as possible to be accepted would change a great deal of this perspective. There is a fundamental flaw and that has to do with the way society views sex to begin with. If it was a normal thing to wait until you find the right person and there was an established education as to what all it entails to have sex then a lift of this wouldn't even be an issue. I think there should always be a choice but there are a lot of ppl using it as a way of contraception and I don't agree with that. Most people don't even think about the guy and his half of the equation. Imagine a man and woman get together and they really wants kids then she gets pregnant and then she says, nope not having it. The man who was so happy who really wanted a chicks and planned for it now has no rights because the baby isn't inside him... Where is the fairness in that? This question always bothered me as a woman because it's my body but it takes more than just one to create a baby. If we are going to look at equality then we need to look at all angles of it. If men were taught to be the men they need to be to be a provider and a partner in a relationship then again, we would not be having this type of discussion. Our culture needs to change.
