Worst thing to do as a gay man is to hide it and go in the army 😔I don’t get these masks because you can still see their outline of their face/features. All it takes is someone who worked in their field to recognise them. Isn’t actually good privacy

They blur the picture on the guy's shirt but they don't blur or at least hide more of the facial features for the man wearing the mask so he doesn't get found out.

As a gay guy in my 40s, I done many public displays of affection were people might have been uncomfortable because I was with another guy. But I always do it thinking that there may be a young guy like me out there seeing that I'm not afraid to be who I am

But with respect, you are living your life, the other guy is living his - and it might be a totally different set of circumstances he is in - you can't know.

I have to dispute one aspect of this soldiers story. He implies he was sent to Afghanistan at the age of 16. I believe that under 18's are not sent to war zones. His mind must have been at fault here, or something went wrong in the editing process.

I've met many gay people in the forces and have never seen hatred towards them. In the forces "banter" is a part of life and anything which singles you out will be a focus point by your colleagues. Ultimately you need to be mentally robust and people who are gay and normal are no different to anyone else. I have seen people who want to make a big thing about their sexuality and they are the ones who others, instead of being hostile to them, pander to them or distance themselves as they do not want to get tangled up in the problems some of these people seem hell bent on creating. As long as you are a good soldier and colleague in work, nobody cares where you stick your bits out of work time. 👉👈
