I Had a Pulmonary Embolism at 28 | Signs, Symptoms & Recovery

Six weeks ago, I discovered that I had a pulmonary embolism - blood clots in my lungs. I'm 28, fit and healthy - this isn't supposed to happen to people like me.
overcoming this has been one of my biggest challenges, and i knew nothing about this until it was happening to me. young people like me can get blood clots too.
dealing with something as life threatening as a blood clots in your lungs throws everything out the window, and it has made me want to chase my goals. life is short.
this video is about what i went through - my symptoms, my hospital experience, and my recovery. it isn't the same as anyone else's journey. a lot of people get the short end of the stick with PEs - i'm one of the lucky ones for sure. this video for anyone who just wants to see someone else go through it. my dream is for this video to show how far i've come one day.

I have been home from the hospital for about 3 weeks. I had PE in both lungs after a minor surgical procedure. I was interested to hear that you weren't sent home on oxygen. I will be on oxygen at least until I can get see a pulmonologist (I am in the US). The earliest appointment I could get is about 2 weeks from now. So I will be on oxygen for about 5 weeks at least. I am only using it at night and when walking. The blood thinners will be at least 3 months and possibly 6 months. My symptom was pain under my collarbone, which the nurse at my Drs. office dismissed (I inquired about it 4 different times on phone calls and visits). Thankfully, I finally went to the emergency room.

Wow - I’m very sorry to hear your pain was dismissed. The pain I felt during this time was some of the worst in my life. I was very lucky to have a very proactive doctor, as I thought I had pneumonia and had never really heard of PE before (and I didn’t believe her when she told me the x-ray showed I didn’t have pneumonia). She’s amazing and I am so glad she pushed me to get tested. I wasn’t placed on oxygen - my oxygen levels were pretty good, which is why I’m guessing things went the way they did. I’m around 14 weeks post PE now - I’ll get some more answers soon but for the moment, I am feeling so much better. The first few weeks were the toughest, and I was frustrated I wasn’t recovering “linearly” if that makes sense - it was just slow. Lots of mental recovery too, it’s really tough all round. I’m wishing you a speedy recovery from here in Australia ❤️
