I played with millipedes as a kid. We used to have a lot of rain in the high mountain desert...not so now. We had isopods and millipedes and centipedes. We called them rollie pollies and thousand leggers!

Just now seeing this video a year later, have you had any luck with them having any babies? They are so awesome I’m looking into getting one but they are hard to find these days.

If I wanted a millipede, do you recommend wild caught? We have tons of brown millipedes that are about half the size of those in my neighborhood.

I was wondering if you could help! I've adopted a handsome 'pede called Garry during the Covid situation from a school and I've been giving him veggies but now I have a grain mite problem - yikes! I want to cut back on the veggies (as much as he loves them) and try to keep him strictly on leaves while I try to cull the mite infestation. Will be be okay just with the leaves for about two weeks while I get the situation under control? I don't want to accidentally starve him to death. If I do give him veggies again I'll probably put them in at night before I go to bed (his raving hours) and take it out in the morning.

I actually got the maple wood from a reptile expo around me! I believe the guy sources his own wood. I get the oak leaves from Josh’s Frogs.

They want a temp between 75-80 degrees, depending on who you ask or which site you get your information. Some recommend lower temperature 72-73 degrees or as high as 85. So if your room temp is 75 degrees you don't really need a heat source but can be good since you have the security that the temp is stable and correct

Joanna Scipioni I won’t be selling these ones but if they do produce babies for me I will probably sell some babies in the future! No permit is needed for these, at least not where I live. it’s possible that you need a permit for wild caught specimens or imported specimens because it is illegal to import wild caught African giant black millipedes any longer. :)

I saw those in my back yard 😂 idk if they are the same but idkkk do they bite?

They might not be exactly the same, but all millipedes are pretty cool and no, they don’t bite! They feel like a little toothbrush walking on you and they’re very peaceful and friendly. :)

Nope! They don't bite and they're very gentle, slow, and calm. Their legs feel like toothbrushes brushing on your arm.

They drink! They will get a lot of water from when I mist their enclosure/droplets in the leaves and sides of the enclosure and also from the veggies I feed them. :)
