It’s ridiculous that it’s against the law, in some states, to dumpster dive. What should be against the law is the fact that these companies don’t want to donate all of this good stuff. They should at least let the employees take the stuff to donate to other places if they don’t want to do it.

Honestly, I'm on the fence about it. People do dumpster dive then resell on eBay and Amazon the stuff they found in the trash without disclosing that. People can get sick from beauty products that were returned and put in the trash.

U know, I’ve recently had problems with a diver from out of town who comes to my town and tries cornering all the scrap around town by scaring off everyone else…he tried pulling that crap with me when I didn’t have my buddy with me…he actually tried blocking my vehicle in a few times and was recording me and taking pics of my vehicle etc….idk who he thinks he is but he’s not going to scare me off…there’s more then enough for everyone and greedy people piss me off…lol…maybe he doesn’t know I’ve seen him trespass and steal off of private property so lol….I plan on informing him he’s messing with the wrong female and I’m not afraid of his antics

Don't take it personally, but I am always yelling, "Get the goods and get out" when divers are stopping to show all the items. Everyone has their own style, but I grab and go so I don't get caught. Great haul, btw!

That's so true there's so many homeless ppl out there that would gladly enjoy anything they are given I mean I'm living at home again till I can find a place for me an my husband he's living at a friend's there's no cheap homes .I ever get to shop because I can't afford it one item id be greatful for anything. There so self centered throwing so much good items like that an destroying items to not be able to use there selfish an self centered brats if u ask me I love a lot of two comments

Makes me wanna go back out and do this again. My best friend and I owned the dive back in the day!! So many awesome scores and the amount of this we were able to salvage and sanitize and donate was awesome 😎

My partner and I used to dive for shop tools. Craftsman replaced every single chisel, screw driver, hammer and socket for new! It was just shop laziness.

Just remember, every piece you take out of that dumpster DOES NOT get put in a landfill. Good on you!

well eventually it does end up in landfill, unless it’s a bathbomb. it just delays it but that’s the reality for most material goods

I feel like those girls laughing were probably employees, who "places" those valuables in the trash and you happened to be there before they were supposed to return and retrieve the stuff after closing..... just my thoughts....

I can’t believe how much Lush threw away! So disappointing to see a brand that I support, due to their ethos, is carelessly throwing products away :( they ask for people to return the black tubs for to recycle them - why couldn’t they have emptied the tubs and recycled them at least?

No offense but I think they say they’re a “green company” to lure people into shopping and paying a hefty price if you ask me for their products which I think are excessive af. Nothing about their trash yelled recycle, reduce or reuse at all.

The employees probably weren't supposed to throw it out, I think she happened to get there before they could go back to get it after hours

Supposedly because it’s considered a hazard because many of the products can be contaminated and if people get sick from it they might sue, but I agree. They should only throw away items that are not salvageable and donate ones that are safe and in great condition

Dumpster diving is technically legal in all 50 states. In 1988, there was a Supreme Court case (the State of California vs. Greenwood) that ruled searching trash is legal as long as it does not conflict with any city, county, or state ordinances.

I worked for Burlington, usually we throw underwear away because it has been brought for return. We don't put it back on the floor. Also bathing suits.

Retail companies should be ashamed of themselves tossing good unwanted products in the dumpster. The can get a big truck or van and ship the good unwanted products to charities.

Where do you live?? I try todumpster dive at my Ulta and the TRASH EVERYTHING! like scrape out eyeshadow. Dump ALL the foundations, lotion, face creams, shampoo, washes etc. So we can't get anything! I've scored a few things but NOTHING compared to what I COULD be getting. And the employees will like okay pranks sometimes but messing it up HORRIBLY then clean it up and put it back together all nicely so it looks new just to get it home and find it ruined. So heartbreaking seeing all that go to waste let me tell ya.. 💔😢 lol. And the employees just LOVE doing it too. 🤬

I can not wait lol to get started.

I get the point that "luxury" brands won't donate their items because then it's devalued. Truth is all their items cost pennies to make. Anyways...the least the non-luxury stores can do is have am end of year or end of season $1 sales instead of throwing the items away. It's actually pretty sad.
