I never understood why companies are so mean about ruining perfectly good products. If they can’t sell them, why not let others take them? It seems so wasteful to just throw all these things away. There must be a real reason that companies do this and not just for spite.

The PR people from one retailer told me that there are laws that say they have to destroy certain stuff (like makeup that's been used) but I don't think they have to trash everything. It's so wasteful.

They also don’t want anyone trying to resale the items they find from my knowledge. They don’t want to be responsible for anything if something were to go wrong.

I know one reason is that if people get the stuff for free, like if it's donated, the idea is that it will lessen the value of the products and therefore the brand. It's very prideful. A company may not want to admit that their products are worthy of being donated, so they'd rather destroy them and retain control over the exclusivity of their products.

Why are employee thieves? Is that really the first assumption you make? I don’t think calling employees thieves, sneaky is justified. As a former retail employee, it’s not the gem of a job you think, and employees don’t get the free run you think. In this financial crisis, how many are willing to risk a job for a couple of dollars sneakily hidden to take later. Not many I suggest.

@@sallyannchappell5671 Dude, relax, I worked retail for 15 years. Loss prevention, too. There's a reason a lot of stores use transparent bags. Throwing out an unopened La Mer? Doesn't seem like something authorized. I don't blame any retail employee that helps themselves at a huge corporation.

I am from the US & I am honestly not sure how she does this & also gets away with this. Where I live, all the dumpsters seem to be locked up & I was told that it is considered stealing if you take stuff from them & they will call the cops 🤷‍♀️

It’s cause a lot of sephoras don’t use dumpsters for the products and send them to a warehouse to be thrown away instead to prevent dumpster divers even tho they gonna throw it away anyways 😂

I have a feeling that was 100% an employee's stash they were damaging good products out to take home lol I work for Sephora (not the US so might be different there) but our trash is just the shipment boxes, store garbage bags etc. product goes to a completely different section that isn't accessible at the dumpsters. and fragrances are deemed hazard so they're 'destroyed' differently, they're never just thrown in the trash. dyson's are supposed to be shipped back to the company here so this is definitely an employees haul lmao
