I found an actual REAL GOLD MINE hidden on my property!

After stumbling onto an illegal mining operation on my property, I thought I would do some exploring of the 100+ acres that make up my mineral claim property. I found all sorts of evidence of old workings including an actual underground gold mine!

Dan, I have spent a good part of my 32 years in the mining and exploration business crawling into rat holes like those you found (and many bigger.) Be very careful about the conditions of the back (ceiling,) An overzealous sampler banging a vein can get themselves hurt or worse PDQ. Another thing to remember is that standing water and rotting timbers consume oxygen. Not a deal in those short adits, but something to keep in mind. Oh, and don't step in puddles that you don't know the depth of. Some of them can be hundreds of feet deep.

@@peachpixiedust standing water absorbs contaminants. If you've ever seen chemicals boil, the gasses can be heavier than the air we breath, causing them to fall to the floor. Pretty scary seeing a dark cloud just floating about the ground. You might not notice anything walking through it as you're passing through undisturbed environment but on your way back all those disturbed toxic gasses have come out from low areas, the water and swirled through the air. By then it's too late. Mines also fill up with water naturally, what looks like a puddle may be hundreds of meters deep.

I have been trying to convince my husband to go on a long weekend in an RV and go to old Civil War/Revolutionary War battlefields (to try to find bullets lodged in trees, which as of the late 70's/early 80's, my dad did regularly on our summer trips...always had his handy pocket knife, lol), or caves like Mammoth Cave or Ruby Falls, etc.; maybe even go to Diamond Crater and find a diamond! He's a no-go so far, but I think I want to go so badly because this is what my dad did with us when we were kids...all about nature, camping, taking us out to the Everglades to watch meteor showers or comets, and just letting us know how amazing nature is, and the fact that its beauty is all around us all the time, day and night, and it is so incredibly beautiful if you just take the time to look. I miss you, Daddy!

You can’t just go out in the woods and start digging, in America at least… He’s referring to crushing rocks up and sampling them at various points in the video, I think this is most likely a years or decades long project. He may have been doing this hobby for 25 years!

I might even try a little panning of my local area once I look into mineral rights around here.
