Are these ugly agates beautiful inside?!

Ойын-сауық

I cut open a bunch of ugly agates to reveal beauty hidden inside! All this agate nodules and mystery rocks were found by me on the North Shore of Lake Superior. I hope this video shows you if it is worth it to pick up some of these "maybes" when you are out rockhounding.

It's a diamond blade. They don't have typical blade teeth. They actually grind through rock. I just watched a video where the guy had his finger on the blade whist cutting through a rock! I was amazed!!! It didn't cut him. Maybe he was an.....👽

If you touch the blade, you just get a graze. It hurts, and sometimes could bleed, but nothing like a saw for wood which would cut your fingers off no argument

@@kpizzlemynizzle922thanks for clarifying! My 9 year old was watching with me, & he was like "Woah! He's gonna cut off his finger!" I simply told him he knew what he was doing & would be ok. He'll be happy knowing it's harder to cut your finger off with this kind of blade, though!

Geology nerd here. That was super fun! I don't see throwaways or duds. What I see are rocks that can be brought to local schools, girl/boy scout troops, and even children's hospitals for children to select for themselves to enjoy, and to learn more about minerals. Little me would have lost her head if presented with many of those cut stones. They were all beautiful in their own way - and certainly of great interest to children, who don't have the same expectations of mineral specimens that we typically develop over the years.

Absolutely! My sister and I found a rock growing up, which I now know is just a quartz nodule, but we loved that rock, and to us, it was a dinosaur egg. We'd add it into our pretend play as a dinosaur egg we discovered as cavewomen or geologists, and I still keep it for that exact reason. The sentimental value of what it was to us kids.

I'm a rockhound and lapidary artist. Those continuous rim diamond blades won't cut you. I have bumped my fingers into them when working on my trim saw lots of times. Of course if you were to hold your finger against it you could cut yourself, but you would have to deliberately hold your finger on the blade for a few seconds. Those blades don't 'cut' in the traditional way that you think like saws designed for something like wood. These saws basically grind a slot right through the rock.

@@crystalnimmo7682 Along the south shore of Lake Superior, check after storms if you know what you’re looking for. Keep in mind what stone types you’re looking for, and ignore the rest. If you want more specific information, look up the Agate Shop in Grand Marais Michigan, and check what hours they are open before you try to visit. About a week before you plan to go, tried calling them during hours they are supposed to be open and see what they think about their plans for the time you would be closer. Sometimes they go out of town for special events, so always call ahead and don’t assume they will be there. But, Sometimes they will open up for out of town and out of state people, if they are able to and you’re in the area visiting. Last, I highly recommend buying the little book they wrote. It’s available at the shop, and add the VW bus next door if the shop is an open, and if that VW coffee bus is still there! Hrs got damaged in some water and the pages are all stuck together and half ripped, so I’m sorry I can’t give you any information out of it. But I think you’ll be able to find them on the Internet. Happy hunting!

5:28 loved loved that spotted one , and the video right before this one ( I should go back and highlight) because I’d definitely purchase a few if you opened some type of agate shop! Thanks for doing some unknown odd balls, because I’ve been curious on what’s inside some of these less gravity weighty ones in our collections

That was so fun to watch, thank u 4 sharing 😊 I thought they were all super pretty except 1. I admit one of them looked so pretty on the outside that I wouldn't have cut it open (the little orange one towards the end that was smoky inside) but that was a super satisfying video!

You’re a delight to listen to when you discover what the insides look like, especially those that bring you joy! The one at 3:25, I would have described as a petrified Butterfinger cut in half! I have no idea how to spell this rock, but at 13:01 you called one rock “kale Sidney” and said those types usually have nothing going on inside. I might have a few relatives and friends I could refer to as kale-Sidney or Kale and Sidney! 😂🤣. I just discovered rock hunting on a whole new level. I’ve lived in Texas 70 years and have beach combed all along the Texas Gulf shores for seashells many times. I’ve also found a few river rocks I’ve brought home from camping, but we just don’t have rocks in the quality and variety as y’all have around the Great Lakes. And, because I’m hopefully moving to the UP in a few months, I found some channels that popped into my YT algorithm when searching other stuff for the UP. I can’t wait to explore this brand new hobby I now have. Thanks for sharing your rock hounding with YT! I’ve subscribed.
