I found a sizeable burl on the forest floor while hunting for morel mushrooms this spring and thought I'd try resawing it into veneers. Let's see how it turns out!

As someone you turns wood as a hobby I was crying as you sliced that large piece through your bandsaw but would love to see what you make out of that piece of the burl hoping for the follow on vid

The piece was way too punky to turn well, and I didn't have a vacuum pot to stabilize it at the time. Video forthcoming though on the result.
Always something to learn.

Sure is 🙂
Gosh, I was hoping for a huge hollow from art piece. What a magnificent burl. Can’t wait to see what these slabs are going to be…

I'm not much for art pieces. Stay tuned for what I turn these into!
So much potential

That's the hope!
Burl is cool. The land I live on has a lot of oaks and burls are plentiful 😂. Thanks for the video.

, so, I should get the all in one table and start learning?
Not sure if the pros cut burl with or against the grain but they have fancy equipment and years of experience to know how to cut what. I'm with you on trying to cut veneer out of it , that makes more sense than making a $30 bowl out of a thousand dollar piece of wood. LOL! That kills me every time I see that, who pays big money for a bowl or wooden lamp? Not I! I wonder what the guys pay for burl wood that turn pens for a hobby? Might be able to sell it for ten bucks a stick or more. There may be a few hundred of those in there? Anyway nice video and keep trying no matter what the comments say, doing =success no matter how you slice it!

Yep, equipment I don't have too!
Could make some great Bowls from that.

Would have taken a lot of stabilizer to make it sound enough to turn.
If they were thicker, they could be used as cutting boards.

I don't know if I'd want to do that, the wood is a bit punky
What did you do with it? I thought you would make it into a sculpture.

Project is in the works. No sculpture though.

@@GlennFrazeeYT Now I'm intrigued. It's been nearly a year so I have high expectations. Any idea when it'll be finished?

Hopefully soon. Things have been busy.
What do you do with them?

Nothing so far. Still trying to think of a good project to showcase them.
Looks like pork chops.

It really surprises me the amount of wood workers that dont know what a real burl is. This certainly isn't a burl. More a cancer of the tree. Butls consist of thousands of little eyes. This is just swirly at most. Certainly not a burl 😒

A burl is any deformed growth. Doesn't necessarily need to have all the little eyes.

@@GlennFrazeeYT i firmly disagree. Highly figured? Sure. But any real burl hunter would not waste time on this cancerous lump lol
