I totally agree that there should be a larger battery for RV, when you live in it. I expect that we'll get RV conversions where they buy a used truck from a fleet, but add an auxiliary battery for living. Then implement: - solutions to charge both from a rapid charger, - to transfer energy between them, - to charge from solar You can have: - solar on the roof, possibly with tilt, to improve performance while camping - solar on the sides, detachable to be used as roof on extension tent

To be successful in Europe, it would need downplating to 3500kg (7700 lbs) GVWR. That brings the payload down to half a ton meaning it would probably be useful only as a package delivery van for cities. Even so, a 10-hour shift will clock up more than 100 miles so I hope the city efficiency is A LOT better than the highway figure.

I think an RV version of the 700 could be awesome. The Rear door could still work with garage storage & water tanks under a raised bed. that would also allow for uneven floor for all wheel drive. A bigger battery, fast charging solar and V2G would all be needed. Also a heat pump and better insulation capable of heating/cooling whole vehicle. Using more of R1 comfort / tech features (even if it pushes up price) could make it the best RV available.

Thanks Kyle for another great video. It was a joy too to watch and learn so much more about the van by Rivian. I also wish that they can have some RV camper design out of this same great electric vans. Perhaps make the roof retractable to a lower height while the RV van is in motion to reduce drag, and put a portable solar roof or set of panels by the side of the van, what have you. Only sky is the limit when it comes to designs. And, you are right, I think some companies and individuals are already talking about converting some of these Rivian electric van into camper RVs and renting them out to the public. That would be so awesome. I also wish that Rivian will start rolling out the single motor R2 suv/cute-uv in its first production years along with the dual motor and tri motor versions so that I and my wife can get our first single motor R2 ASAP :) We really enjoy your channel Kyle. You are by far the most detailed and show as little (or none at all) bias as possible compared to other KZread channels. Thanks Kyle, you are the best!

I think the feature decisions like missing streaming apps etc. are intentional, same as manual steering column adjustment since these vans are designed primarily for commercial use and will see probably hundreds of different drivers over their lifetime so making it as generic and easy to use as possible is key. Everyone got their phones with personal apps to connect so it makes sense. Also i love the circuit breakers over the driver seat.

The same is true for the maximum volume of the sound system. Drivers should concentrate on the road without being distracted by loud music. On the other hand, there is a sound system, so drivers are not tempted to put in their earphones. The only thing missing is a locked compartment for the personal phones. On the charging pad, they are prone to theft when the door stays open during delivery.

So I had a 360 watt solar system on the roof of my RV. It provided plenty of power to run my lights, TV, and such. However if you could fit 1,000 watts on the roof of the Rivian, it would only provide about 5 KW of solar power each day. Only enough for about 10 miles of range. So it would be a long wait someplace to get enough power to drive back home. Plugging in at a Rivian network charger, you can get 5 KW in about 8 minutes. Not 8 hours.

As an Amazon delivery driver I love this van. My only suggestion that they missed out on was having the seat belt be automatic that would be neat. Also I love the placement of the bottom wireless charger. The top one will cook your phone from the sun as well as the wireless charger itself with all the heat it’s generating. This will speed up phone degradation and you’ll need to replace phone battery sooner. Good news is that phone battery replacement is pretty cheap nowadays but better to avoid all together to save money. Shoutout Amazon delivery station DCk1 in Manteca, Ca.

The range is about 140 miles but 30 miles is the minimum to get back to the yard so effectively only a 110miles range. The delivery area is huge in Houston so while 110 miles sounds like a lot they have trouble making all the deliveries. Common comments are it’s like driving a space ship. Just get in a go.

The Brightdrop 600 doesn't list interior dimensions (just area) for the Cargo, but overall width was 85" figure 3" per side taken off for paneling, dropping it down to about 79"ish wide cargo area, so it's about in the middle between the Rivian 500 and 700 interior width.

Bigger battery and partner with Forest River or Keystone RV and I am sure they would gather a market. Charging while camping and still having the juice to use whatever they need while camping would be amazing.

Leave it to Kyle to stay up all night to do a review 😂 This thing sounds like the demo R1T I just bought. 2 years old with less than 100 miles. No clue what they used it for, but I just put a 1,000 mile RT road trip on it this week. Loving it, the thought rivian puts into all their vehicles is just wildly impressive.

Tell RJ he does not have to MAKE RV's - just make a general commercial version available for people to purchase and convert themselves.... just say'n....

That van is so cool. Thoughts on the all wheel drive, why not have rear hub motors like in the Lords Town PU that went under. Wouldn't that work out without affecting the floor in the van? As for the RV, most likely Rivian will just design a rolling chassis for third party RV conversion . Thanks Kyle. Alyssa & Blue for a cool video

Absolutely amazing video.. CEO gives you the keys.. How cool is that. You mentioned it seems to do a lot of brake blending even when the pack is low. It also charges kinda slow.. They could be related.. I wonder if it can only do about 53KW of regen because that's as much input as the battery can handle.... and that's not that much in a heavy vehicle.. so it has to blend in friction braking. My Bolt EV has the opposite issue.. 54KW charging due to an AMP limit on the charge port and the wires into the system.. but it can REGEN up to about 75KW... But can output about 153KW max... so maybe that's a similar situation.. The Rivian can output more than it can take as an input.

Imagine putting solar panels on the roof. Probably enough surface area to trickle charge at probably 5-10kW while parked at the beach all day 👌🏻

This vehicle is not meant for highway driving, so the 70mph test is not it's thing. Like you said, you need to do a local driving long range test for it. Perhaps a new metrics test for electric local delivery vehicles only.

I can see that huge wind turbine spinning in the afternoon video, but was not spinning in the other video, probably less wind early in the day? I am happy that Rivian put in this large wind turbine on their property!

I am not sure if it will ever make sense for Rivian to build RVs, but I do wonder if some company can make a simple modular system that would basically install in a day. These custom RV vans are great as far most parks will allow them, they are easier to drive than the bus size RVs, and easier to store when not using them. If there was a Rivian RV that could do about 250 miles of range, with solar roof, and good recharge speed, it would likely do very well.

I admit to be a skeptic on Rivian's financials. However, the commercial van is a very cool design. I would love a 500 as a people mover. Not an RV, but a family hauler to do in town and road trips. I could only hope for that version in different seat configurations.
