Working in Rivian's Electric Delivery Van During A Snowstorm
Another day working at Amazon. Today we'll be testing how well the rivian electric van does in the snow. When it snows in New Jersey, it's usually all or nothing. And with the state calling a state of emergency, we'll see how much snow we'll get and how well these electric vans do.

One big drawback to the EDV is that driving faster on the highway drains the battery faster, and the heating also takes away range. My DSP is pretty good about switching my route in the country for a route in the city so that I can stay in the EDV, and the step van driver can have an easy day. Even though I get put in the city, I still have a bit of a commute to make on the highway. I just stay on the service road or a boulevard heading the same direction. Saves me about 50 miles

Super Rural zone for me - Amazon Flex. During a recent storm 4 hour blocks were going for $180, and *nobody* took them. That should say enough about how Super Rural zones are handled here! The station never closes even when multiple roads are closed, but the Flex drivers here have learned the hard way that it's not worth wrecking one's car or getting stuck for hours for any money! Especially since we still get punished for returned packages!

I used to work as a delivery driver in the city. Black fridays and christmas time was the worst. Wasn't always enojyable running 10 flights of stairs hauling anywhere from 1 to 200 pounds 8 hours a day with my socks wet. 10 inches of snow outside. It was mad. Delivering to suburbs was chill though. At least I didn't have to go to the gym afterwards.
Very different delivery method to Europe - here the delivery men always ring the doorbell and hand it over in person. Signatures are not always required, but very rarely is the parcel left on the doorsteps. If noone is home, then usually the package is dropped off at the nearest postal office and a note is left to the owner to go and pick it up.
@Mike-lt6sj
2 ай бұрын
Yeah, that seems like a big pain. Here you can have anything delivered to your door. In some cities they have problems with theives, though.
Cool video, it's still funny to see how others cope in these weather conditions. For us it's not just 1 inch of snow but 40 and its a normal day for us. The slippery stairs are not a problem for us because the owner of the house has to ensure that the paths in his house are de-iced. The city has to do everything else like sidewalks. If you are injured, you can sue for damages.
The heavy Amazon jacket is a god send. Love it.
This is a great atmosphere

ive been to work all day... and now im watching you work for some reason
We had a pretty snowy day here in Ohio recently, and I spent 15 minutes trying everything I could think of to get out of a driveway lol. Eventually I figured out how to abuse the van’s traction control system to get out. And then like 5 hours later I accidentally figured out how to turn that off, which would have saved me like 13 minutes if I had known it earlier in the day, but oh well. Definitely a little scary, I thought for sure I was gonna have to call dispatch and have them get me a tow lol
My old dsp used to say never pick “customer or household member” as an option. only “receptionist or doorman”. now i just pick whatever and scribble the signatures. usually the people that order the stuff are there to receive it so I just put their name down. or at least ask for a name and sign it.

Dang, I used to live in New Jersey most of my life and its sad to hear them declare a state of emergency for such little snow. Its because of Murphy and his incompetence on Nov. 15, 2018. One cannot overstate just how ridiculous that was. We had warnings for a snowstorm, Murphy wanted to save on the budget and was gambling the snow storm wouldn't come. He told all salts and plows to stay off the road over night. Come morning it was clear by the snow in NY/CT/MA north NJ was going to get hit hard. Murphy still had stand down order and did not authorize emergency vehicles to treat the roads. He did not give them the authorization until close to 12 pm. By that time it was way too late and was one of the worst storms for accidents we had ever seen. Peak snowfall wasn't even 6 inches. Why did Murphy not give an order until nearly 12 pm? He was out partying like it was NYE on November 14th, 2018 in AC and hung over. Now he is as quick as can be to declare state of emergencies.
The new trucks look dope.

Is so nice the Rivian delivery trucks are so quiet....we get a lot of deliveries at our condos. And its noticable how nice the lack of noise is with the EV's coming into our neightborhood.
You guys are heroes :)
Norway and Sweden have really cold winters and their EV sales are a majority of all cars sold there so cold isn't the issue with the car. Issue was with the infrastructure, those chargers that were dying weren't equipped with heaters so they needed a long time to even heat up and start charging at a decent rate and if at all, and the situation with rented EVs for rideshare exacerbated the issue.
I got my chance to drive the EV back in mid December 2023. Bro the space is just... 😍😍 until 1 day my dispatcher decided to give me over 400 packages with 50 overflows but only 23 stops (you can guess how that goes) 😭😭. I was like it was fun while it last.
As a FedEx driver in Los Angeles I can say we’re blessed to not have snow storms 😅
i miss ur vids man wya!!!
I don't know if it's just me, but I've been noticing that working conditions at Amazon have been on an incline since late last year. I have several friends that started to work there in the never-ending job-hopping adventure, and they're genuinely happy. One of them is taking it so seriously that he's trying to work his way up the robotics division out in Nevada. He was changed over from being a chutes guy to an engineer and even got to name one of the lil pallet bots. He called it "Tiny Cat"
