I have been cutting my hair like this for 2 years now. I love my hair! I get compliments all the time and am asked where did I get my hair cut. I tell them I cut it myself and they are shocked. I will always cut my own hair now. My daughter is now doing the same.

Your new haircut was just lovely. I might try it. I am 72 years old, and my hair is three and a half feet long, from the apex of my head. I wear it up most of the time, as it's easy that way; otherwise it will fall in the toilet when I pee! You have such a nice personality, and I wish you well in all your endeavors, pretty girl!

How did it go?

I used this technique myself over the summer. I have received more compl on my hair than I ever have and people wanting to know who I went to!! They all were shocked whenever I told them that I did it! Yours looks amazing! You have a lot thicker and healthier hair than I do. You look amazing!

It looks amaaaaaing in the video! May I ask, do you think this cut works well for very fine hair in your opinion? I have very fine hair and also lost some hair from stress so not happy at all about my hair right now. I want to cut my hair a shorter but make it look like more and fuller hair, not like less hair obviously. I have always gone for a blunt one length cut at shoulder or chin length, to help it not look too thin, in the past. Does this butterfly cut help fine hair look better?

It looks really difficult to do without help! You did a fab job!!!

I Love this cut! I am 70 and thankfully look many years younger and have been using this method probably for 40 yrs! I just loved the layers so much I cut another layer so that it’s a bit shorter on the top to give me more Volume! U did a WONDERFUL JOB! It Blows my mind to think how much a Salon would charge for what u did in a few minutes! Good for you!!!! Xxx❤

@debracampoli3935 when you say you cut another layer so that it's a bit shorter on the top, do you mean you cut the front poney shorter or you make another poney on the front which you cut shorter than the other front poney?

You are SO brave. I think I was more nervous than you were while you were cutting. The cut is beautiful on you! :)

Cosmetologist OG here, I’m glad you didn’t go any shorter, and I like your result. I saw your hands shaking, made me hope you liked it too! Reminds me of creative ways I used to cut, like make my client turn upside as much as possible to get layers and a curve around the face. We also did a layered look by dividing the way you did, but I found I’d have to create more layers by going around the head in smaller vertical section again pulling straight out. As long as all ends were included you shouldn’t have any drops. Thanks for the vid!

Nicely done, you look gorgeous. I just did this same cut from some other KZread channel a month ago and I love it. I have a lot of hair and need to be careful of it looking too blunt, so I take the scissors and chop into the ends of the pony tails after cutting them. It removes a lot of weight and feathers the ends a lot more. I’ve been paying my hairdresser over $100 each cut and never achieve this look, she’d always cut the ends blunt and I never liked it. Thanks to the pandemic I turned myself into my own hair dresser. Keep up the good work!❤

Try twisting the ponytails next time before you cut. I do that and get great layers! Good effort anyway.

My dear, I am 71, always had thick, good hair, and loved to cut it myself....I would layer my hair. Well, I just got over 3 years of cancer, so my THICK hair is gone, but I still have hair....YOU have gorgeous hair, it turned out just great and you look good. Just found your site and subscribed. Hi, I have been doing layering on my hair loads however, I pull ALL of my hair to the front pony tail hair band and cut as you did the first cut. Then you get more layering at the back. But with your length (mine is shorter) your cut looks very lovely and soft. Beautiful .

I was inspired to try this haircut immediately after watching this video and I have not been to a salon nor cut my hair except for the bangs in over four years! Isn’t it amazing the positivity in the good vibes in there sister love she can send through her channel at least that’s how I received her message. I hope that you, try it also for yourself and I’m sure no matter what we each will trim it tweak it and stylet in our own way to make it our own. Although never forgetting, who gave us the courage to try this and it is a beautiful hairstyle I can only hope and pray mine turns out half as good but either way, I’m just gonna be proud and happy that I even tried it myself. Bravery? It's just a haircut. She's not running through a burning building to save people, and she's not dodging enemy fire overseas. We've all become way too soft when a haircut = bravery. To be fair, it's a lovely haircut and she looks beautiful. But I don't get the whole "bravery" thing. It's far too hyperbolic for me. It is a beautiful haircut on a beautiful lady, to be sure, so I'm with you on that. But still, it is just a haircut.

You are brave cutting your own hair! Your hands were so shaky. But it looks so FABULOUS!! Absolutely gorgeous!

Fabulous results 🎉 I do mine the same way sometimes one ponytail, sometimes 2 or 3 depending on how much layers I want … perfect technique ❤

It totes works… did it last night on my own hair and it came out AMAZING!!! I have seriously long… to my butt… hair so going to the hairdresser requires a life savings. This wee little hack was a blessing! - side note, I went straight in dry on mine. I just straightened it first. Worked a treat!

I love Brad Mondo! I did this cut a few months ago, myself. I had forgotten one step, and that is to cut the same amount from both ponies (pony tails). This is my first time watching you, and I see you cut off like, 6" more from the back than from the front. That said, you and your hair are both gorgeous. I don't know why somebody griping about not being able to see the back. Jeez, calm down. I enjoyed your explaining as you're going thru the process.

Did you retry the cut, cutting the same amount off? Did it turn out better? Lol…I do show the back of it, in the video on my main channel. I do this technique and always have to cut off more in the back than the front otherwise i have an extreme difference between the two sets.

I love this! This is how I cut my daughter's hair all the time. One tip I could give you to give more of a layered effect is: instead of cutting horizontally, cut vertically. Like when you comb your hair (after pony) comb the section vertically. Cut that section at a verticle 45° angle, making the section closest to your finger tips your longest part. This goes for both ponytails. If you cut the piece closest to your fingertips shorter than the part closest to your knuckles, you might have a noticeable disconnect. By cutting the verticle section from the fingertip longer than the other half, your layers will blend more evenly. I hope this makes sense.
