LADIES WITH FINE THIN HAIR OF A CERTAIN AGE- THIS CUT ROCKS!!! I spent hours reading comments trying to find info how this turns out, so wanted to add my bit. Me: middle aged, post menopausal who’s been growing out her grey and really not enjoying it. While I love my pepper and white streaks, what I’ve loathed is what my hair does without colour to rough it up: silky smooth droop that looks like a shower cap. Holds no curl, does nothing but sits flat. I also have bad eyesight so I spent a LOT of time taking photos in the mirror to make sure I had the lines straight. When I put the front ponytail in it was a hilariously thin little wisp. The back was even worse- easily only HALF the size of the mannequin’s. I almost bailed but so glad I didn’t. For reference- the elastic I used, when squeezed into a line is 2 1/2” wide (those thin elastics) and I wrapped it 4x round. This was loose, but couldn’t quite get 5. Trying to give an idea of my hair and how thin it is for those of you who are worried. This is probably one of the best cuts I’ve ever had. It seems no matter which salon I try, every hairdresser gives me something “mature” with blended layers where my hair looks lovely and like I’m the 50 year old I’m supposed to be acting like. This… this is chunky, fun, with amazing height on the crown and absolutely gorgeous bangs and face framing wispy bits. The beautiful white streaks I’ve got going on underneath the rest are now finally visible thru the layering, and I’m left with only an inch or 2 of the brassy blonde I’ve been growing out. My hair looks fantastic even though it’s got no product in. I don’t have curls but I have a few kinks, so my hair isn’t absolutely straight. That back ponytail leaves the first layer lying right at the occipital bone and it’s a perfect length for volume at the top - that thing I’ve been seeking with every cut my entire life. Go for it. Go slow. Stop the video a lot and pay attention to angles- like the finger angle at the front ponytail where it’s 45° and raised at the back, pointing down towards what will be the fringe. I had to watch several times as the important info is at the beginning and it’s not clear when he makes his cut. I don’t normally leave comments, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for this incredible video. I hope this helps some people decide whether to give this a go. My ponies were so little I was pretty sure this would be a disaster, but im so glad I took the risk

I don't normally write comments either but this review helped me a lot to decide whether this cut will look good on my fine thin hair. Thank you for providing such a detailed description! Now I'm definitely going to try this cut

I too have very fine thin aging hair.. I have cut it myself with clippers and the largest comb and it’s always turned out well.. After a year of trying to grow my hair into a longer bob , it get to the length where it just hangs limply.. I’ve always wanted to try this cut. But was afraid my hair was to thin and fine…. But today I’m going to do it….wish me luck

What happens if you make the ponytail in back really low? Is that a way to cut the perimeter without layers in it?

I agree! This cut removed the heaviness that always seems to develop from below my ears to my shoulders. Love it!!
So I followed your tutorial and my hair looks so god-damned amazing, I did better following your techniques than any hairdresser has ever done. It's been 3 days and I am still looking at it in the mirror every 10 minutes. I cannot believe I did that! Thank you!

@@tanrose8645 You're describing me! I did the cut. It turned out great. I cut each pony tail a bit longer than he did, because I knew it would curl up more when I was done. It came out great! I got curly to wavy hair. I also added long fringe/bangs in front. I need long bangs to hide my '11' lines. It looks like I have MORE hair, now, but feels very light. Good luck!
Somebody, give this man a Hairbel Peace prize for succinctly showing us how to easily cut our own hair into a wonderfully floaty style!!! I love it! My hair to start was a bit shorter than the mannequin's, but I still followed his instructions and the cub cut came out exactly as I wanted... a simple shag, gave nice volume, and it's great for my thin hair. I even used fabric scissors, which was weird for point cutting, but still love how it came out!!

Had this haircut in 1979. Amazing how things come back around!
I had my hair cut by a hairdresser that didn't get what I was after despite me showing pictures and so on. I was so disappointed, I cried for days about it. This video not only helped me to fix my own hair, but is also the style I was looking for! So happy!! Thank you Paul, amazing instruction. I was so scared to cut away as much as I did, but now I have volume and gorgeous shaggy layers. Yay!

I had your experience which was what inspired me to begin cutting my own hair at 17yo. These videos would have been nice and helped me not make a few mistakes. I've learned a lot along the way these past 40 years 😂
Omg. So I took a leap of faith and followed the steps. 5 inches off the back & 2 off the top and my god, I look refreshed. It's taken that dull heavy look off my shoulders. Thank you so so much.
This is giving me 80s into 90s vibes, I’ve been going back-and-forth between a bob and a long barely layered look for a few years now and I think I might attempt this on myself, I used to be a professional stylist for many years but no longer work in the salon do to disability. Thank you this looks pretty easy to do! Just gotta let my bangs grow out :-)

My curly hair is very fine, but I have lots of it. I just gave myself this Cub Cut and it looks terrrific. I would like to thank you for explaining this cut in a language that I can understand and follow. My hair looks great, feminine and a bit boho...I LOVE it.

😂who didn't have one at least once?! 😂
~I've been perusing DIY haircuts for some time and kept coming back to this one. I was in a quandary as to what to do with my hair as I'd let it go for soooo very long. My mane was my pride and joy for many a year and my trademark... Well things happen, we change... So there it was, just sitting there, longer than it had ever been and I kept it in a braid or ponytail. I was sooo tired of it... 😟 ~~Did this cut today, went a tad shorter than what he did here but! followed the exact technique and instructions. And once again, I LOVE my mane! Doing it yourself, with expert instruction FEELS FANTASTIC!!! Not to mention = doing it in the comfort of your own home, and FOR FREE! Wow, I'm thrilled! 😍 ~~~TYSVM and Bravo Paul Watts!!! VERY kind of you to make all these videos for all of us! YOU ROCK!! 🥰👍
You are simply the best teacher for home made cutting hair, for the ordonary people.
Top! Top! Top! I have a short bob without layers and did the cub cut myself like you said and it turned into a very sofisticated hair cut, gorgeous. I love it!!! Thank you!
I’ve watched a ton of ponytail haircut videos and I feel like a lot of people completely skip over the position of the cut itself. This is very helpful!
Finally, when unable to go to the salon I can cut my own hair. Your hidden ponytail Wolf Cut has been my go to cut for my wavy-loose curl hair. I want to try the cub cut but not sure how to adjust the length for my curl?? Can you do a video of the Cub Cut for curly hair??? Your designs & videos are absolutely smashing! I recommend your videos to everyone!!
I just gave myself this haircut about an hour ago. I absolutely LOVE IT. (I put my back ponytail a little bit lower, to get longer layers.) I have fine, fluffy/wavy hair and it's blonde, so I totally look like Peter Frampton. Super easy to do, came out surprisingly even, and I just did a few snips in the front to soften it up even more. Thank you for the tutorial! Edited to add that I put the front ponytail in line with my nose, and this cut works great even though I part my hair about an inch to one side of center. I think it must be the 45 degree angle cut that's the real magic here!
@tinagrace6722

Peter frampton 😂😂. That’s great! What a visual. I always say my natural hair looks like Robert Plant. I’m so curious how this would like with wavy hair (like those 2 rock legends).

@@tinagrace6722 I have curly/wavy hair, and this cut still looks amazing. I sleep with my hair in a bonnet, and use my fingers to lightly fluff it out in the morning. I'm still absolutely shocked at how much my hair seems to love this cut. HIGHLY recommend you try this with your Robert Plant hair, especially the slanted 45 degree cut in the front. Just allow a bit extra for curl shrinkage, because your curls and waves will POP.

this will be awesome on ppl with a natural wave to their hair!
I cannot believe how GOOD this looks!!!! WOW! Thank you Paul!
I love your ponytail videos! They're so helpful. My husband does mine now, using the sexy textured bob video!
Awesome! I’m going to try this on my hair soon. I’ve had much success with two of your other tutorials! ❤
Been cutting hair a while now and this, by far is the easiest way to give soft layers that frame the face. I did this cut on myself this morning and it looks amazing 😻!! I was a little extra generous when I cut the front pony and it lays like a cut that has settled for a few days. I also point cut the pony and softened it. I wish I could show you how good it turned out. Wanted to take time to comment and thank you for your time and content. I always enjoy your videos and learning but mostly super appreciate that you’re sharing them. 🙏
I watch all your videos and mix to get the result I want. I start with the woulfcut with 2 ponytails and will be trying this one for bangs this summer. Thank you!
Thank you! Your detailed illustration before the the first cut was a good confidence boost! My hair looks great!!!!
I did this for my 5 year old and she looks amazing! Everyone was flabbergasted because they thought I took her to a hairdresser 😂
This video is just what I've been looking for. I'm growing out my hair and it's currently just below my shoulders but I have thick hair and feel it needs some serious layering. Can wait to try this out 😊
I love my new cub cut hair!!! Thank you for this tutorial ❤

Absolutely brilliant . So well explained and shown in a simple fashion. Beautiful method and Beautiful cut x
Had this cut in 2002. It's great. Especially if you have wavy hair. Wash and go.
This is one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten in 46 years, and you helped me to do it myself! :) I have thick, wavy, course hair with multiple textures. I cut it wet and didn't have any fancy texturizing sheers so (after blunt cutting like in the video) I parted each ponytail in half to make vertical sections and then notched out the ends by point cutting with regular sheers from the beauty supply. I just put in leave-in and gel and let air dry, kind of twisting some pieces around my face and on the sides. I just cut it yesterday and have already gotten compliments. Thanks so much for this tutorial, Paul. I have it saved and will be cutting my hair like this for the foreseeable future.
Love it. I just did my first Wolf Cut two days ago. I'm not that brave to go this short but perhaps in the future. However, hard to even see what you're doing in the back if you're doing it by yourself.

Thanks for putting this up Paul 👍 iv been cutting my hair since lockdown learning from different KZread videos, but this way is 100 times easier & quicker than doin it without the pony tails 😊 mines shorter than the dolls head so i just took less off , Cheers!
You are an amazing teacher. You make the whole process so understandable. Thank you for sharing your expertise. 😊
Brilliant! Perfect for one of my old wigs. Thank you
U don’t really have to chip/point the stubbed hair area because it falls away from each other anyway. It really doesn’t need softening. U can soften areas once it’s all down tho.
I did it and I am happy with the result. My hair is thin , this cut gave me volume. Thank you
You're ardently awesome!! You make this cut look so stinkin' easy!! I'm going for it! Right now, on myself!!
All your videos are amazing- you are a genius when it comes to hair cutting.
You are an amazing teacher! I learned so much from this video! Thank you!
Just did a quick late night shower and cut. Explanation was super simple, made it go fast. Turned out qqquuuute, I think I’ll still enjoy it tmr morning 🙏🏼🤩
I followed this having shorter hair to start (grazes top of shoulder) and it turned out amazing. Exactly what I wanted. I’m in between hairdressers right now and trying to grow my thick wavy hair out. This lays perfectly air dried and I am impressed. I just wanted some nice layering without losing length.

This is a beautiful silhouette, & I even liked the raw look of it before you refined the ends ~
Hi this is such an amazing, thorough, clear tutorial I'm planning to cut my hair shorter, so I've saved 4 of your videos with similar haircuts (haven't decided what kind of haircut I want yet lol), but I've got an issue I never really understand how to actually blow out such haircut to get that volume & texture like on the pic you showed, I think it was Jenna Ortega's hairstyle, if it was possible maybe you could also incorporate how to do a blow out too? No one really shows how to do it. Thank you so much for this video.♥

Thank you very much for this amazing tutorial! My hair is wavey and quite thick. I wanted some nice and light hairstyle. I followed your instructions and it came out amazing! Best tutorial I have ever seen, think best hairdresser too! 🎉
I just did this and cut off many inches of hair. Almost had a panic attack but somehow it came out even and looks right! Super wow
You are brilliant!!
I have thick multi-textured curly hair and I managed to do this cut. I love it so far. I cut it wet then blew dried it and straightened it to check for wonkiness. To my surprise, there were only a few touch-ups that I had to do. I cut at least 4-5 inches and the back falls right below my shoulders which is exactly where I wanted it. The layering took off so much weight and even though the layers are a bit more choppy than I was going for, it blends well and I have movement. I have not tried it curly yet. I hope I love it curly just the same.
A while back i buzzed off the back of my head and it finally grew long enough to cover my neck, the hair on the top of my head is way longer and im so tempted to follow this tutorial 😂
Amazing!! Just did this cut at home. Feel so much better. Thank you!

You are so amazing❤!!!!!!!!!
That's my latest cut, only with short bangs! I was worried I went too extreme, but if you'te telling me this is the newest trend, I'm beyond happy 🤗✨
Wow, I love this cut, amazing
Done. Love it. Took me about 45 min. Last diy cut I did was a blunt bob and it took me two hours. 🤪 For a diamond shaped face leave the bangs longer, so that they are underneath your cheeks if you wanna slim down that area (or shorter above your cheeks if you wanna accentuate them). Looks absolutely gorgeous. I am still surprised every time that I am able to actually cut more or less of a straight line (I do have to correct it here and there but in the end it really is straight) at the back of my head in the mirror. Its a miracle every time. 😂 Thank you for this cool tutorial!!! ❤,
love it!
Thanks, my daughters think I am soooo on trend right now. Both this and the cub cut came out amazing. Ive shared your vids to all the mums.
