I built a wood fired forge in three hours!?

An impromptu super rapid forge building after last night's impromptu forging at Charles' barbecue ... I had thought of ferrocement and other longer builds, but cut to the chase with a bit of our hoard of second hand corrugated iron, combined with an old table frame and a length of old cast iron pipe dug up at our daughters place... I angle ground the air holes in the pipe, blocked the end with fiberglass wool ..and taped the old Champion forge blower (made in Lancaster pa) to the other end of the pipe. the bricks lining the forge sit on fiberglass batts. the ends and V bent corrugated iron are screwed onto the metal table frame with short roofing screws. I amazed myself...it shows what can come together after mulling for a while, then just doing it as if there was only an an hour or two to do it...

You mentioned you were testing out regular bricks. I don't know anything about this stuff, but i did watch videos in the past year about building an outdoor oven and fire pits and heard someone mention fire-mortar that they covered regular bricks with, which i had no idea existed.

Yes there is fire mortar... Some is very dear but bags aren't too bad... I have one somewhere... But minimalist first...

:)an antique Champion hand air blower from Lancaster pa, USA... I have tried paint stripper air guns too, just hand held but could attach it to the pipe... Not with PVC tape of course! Aluminum tape maybe...
