Got me looking over at my home made fire pit and thinking about some conversion.... Maybe I shouldn't apply such strong literature to my scrap pile. It's a satellite dish and some stainless steel sheeting tacked to the sides. lmao

@@behindthebarnreallife1064 That wasn't a really suitable option. Would have been better off digging out a fire pit in the ground and making due. I used a 14 inch car wheel with some stainless around it to bring it up about 2 foot high. Another useless scrap dish for a top and a hand dryer fan adapter to some square pipe. Well on my way to figuring out how to avoid ugly imperfections. 🤪 Worked for the first two blades I've yet to complete from the track off an old komatsu loader lost on the job site I happen to be cleaning up one day Thanks for the inspiration and encouragement!

Royce Chambers it’s very addicting. So far I’ve learned how to make good round metal into useless flat metal.

It could be improved with some more lining, clay cat litter works fine, fill in the gap between the pipe and the firebrick, or alternatively shove sand, dirt or whatever under the firebrick and bring it up level with the pipe, then mud over the firebrick, if you make a V channel with the air coming up through the bottom that should help to concentrate the heat into a smaller area. Also a hood should help reflect some of the heat being lost above back down into the forge. The whitlox wood forge has these features and works pretty well, wood is a decent fuel source but you burn through a ton so anything you can do to improve efficiency and concentrate the heat is a good thing. usaknifemaker.com/pub/media/catalog/product/cache/74c1057f7991b4edb2bc7bdaa94de933/m/i/mini_whitlox_wood-fired_forge-8.jpg Notice how the air pipe is pretty much buried under the firebrick with just a small gap to let it through, this will let the air pipe last longer without burning through, also the V channel tends to help blow away the ash as it builds up.

MarcAFK thanks for the input I’ll definitely try it out. I have already added sand around the pipe and use the other half of the barrel for a lid. The v shape I think will help a lot like you said.

The Migeon Pan I got rid of the hair dryer and am now using a 110 air mattress inflator with a voltage switch from amazon. Both together were $16 I think. It helps to be able to adjust the air flow. I highly recommend making one they’re a lot of fun.

Brennan Polen I have the other half of the barrel with the end cut out. It helps but man does it get hot. You definitely don’t want to do this inside in the summer. Thanks for watching.
