In this video I build a PC for music production and show you each component I used to build it. This is a music production PC that will be perfect for any DAW including Ableton Live, FL Studio, Reaper, Cubase, and others. This is an AMD build featuring components by ASUS, NVIDIA, Noctua, Thermaltake, G.Skill, Samsung, and others. I also test this PC to show you how it performs with Ableton Live, Kontakt, GPU Audio plugins and more. GPU Audio plugins use your computers graphics processor instead of your CPU to run plugins!

Awesome video Sanjay! We're so pleased to see our beta plugins in action. Look out for the full releases soon!
Cool thing from Noctua is they sell conversion kits to reuse your cooler in a newer gen cpu/mobo. Had an i7 2600k with a Noctua for years and it’s now cooling a Ryzen 7, conversion kit was a bit over 20 euros. And they cool awesome, the i7 was overclocked a lot and it stayed pretty cool. Also have a pair of Kali’s, IN8, they sound brilliant.
These kind of videos are incredibly helpful. P.S. Digging the stash
Yooo my two worlds collide. PC gaming and music. This is a killer machine, great build!
This channel is straight fire! The beats always get me hyped! 🔥❤
I am running an off-the-shelf AMD Ryzen 7 5600G PC from Micro Center. I upgraded to 32GB RAM and I think it was around $800 or so. Works fine and runs everything I can throw at it! BTW, I used to work in the computer dept at Circuit City and remember selling Packard Bells, Compaqs, and ancient Macs. I also ran a precursor of Logic called Creator on the Atari ST back in the 80s. It came on 1 floppy drive!
That setup looks awesome!!! Now all you need to add is a white microphone, and white LED monitor back lights

@SanjayC I have a question if you would like to answer that? I'm not at all good in building pc's myself and I'm there for, looking for a prebuild pc. Also I don't have that much budget space for it, because I'm also buying a monitor with it. So do you think that a pc with the following specs is good enough for music production, lite gaming and also video and photo editing (with lite gaming I mean Minecraft and Sims 4 mainly): -AMD Ryzen 5-6 Core - NVIDIA Geforce RTX 4060 (8 GB memory) -1 TB SSD -32 GB RAM -6 core processor (12 threads) -CPU clock speed: 3,6 Ghz (maximum turbo boost: 4,2 Ghz) -motherboard: AMD 320 If you have any advice, that would be awesome, before I buy it of course, it's a lot of money you know haha Thank you in advance! Appreciate you!

Great video Sanjay C !
I love your video. I want to ask what setup would you recommend for a good podcast?
For a non PC/tech channel you sprinkled a lot of nice technical tidbits in there and your desk setup looks amazing. One thing I will say is for the CPU you could probably get away with a few less threads, and an even less premium motherboard to save some cash, but man do I wish I had 64GB of ram for those orchestral sample libraries.
@Graeme_Culpepper
8 ай бұрын
RAM has gotten incredibly cheap. I have 2 32GB (to total 64GB) DDR5 6000mhz DIMMS in my system I got for about $175. The only downside (which is extremely minor) is that the cast latency is a little higher than I'd like clocking in at 38ms. 6 years ago, When I got my first PC, I paid that much for only 16GB of RAM, and it was DDR4 2400mhz. Much slower than what is available today.
The moment you said "Circuit City" ... wow flash back! Lol
Amazing setup Sir ! You can now do Livestreams as well with that beast 🔥. Even Gaming
Hello, thanks for sharing… Question though, what sample rate, bit depth and buffer size produced those impressive cpu loads in Live? Music KZreadrs persistent ly seem to omit those important contextualizing numbers (without which, the presented numbers could be misinterpreted).
Loved this. I have an M1Max that’s got lots of ram and hard drive space and it’s actually really easy to overload. Not as easy as my intel mac pro from 2019, but it’s not nearly as powerful as reviewers had said. Nobody did what you did by loading plugins and VSTs we would actually use. Great demonstration. Hard for me to imagine going back to PC, but you can’t argue with the quality price ratio here. Wow.

@@JDiggiti I'd like to hear Tony's reply, but as for me, my M1 Max hardly ever gets taxed much. I edit my videos on it as well, and it flies! For music production, nothing really taxes it much. I even do a lot of screen recording, while I play multiple plugins in Ableton Live, and its just fine.

That circuit city commercial took me back. Preciate that
Great timing. I have been agonizing over a new media pc since mine died last winter. All the new gpu's and power conservation concerns have had me holding off. I am going nvidia 40 series for lower power use. still sorting processors. I will also overspec the psu and still have to decide on the board chipset.
One thing I've always wanted is a faraday cage for my PC. I use single coils on my guitar and it constantly picks up sounds from my PC
Great video as always, Sanjay. I built the same PC about a year ago but with the Noctua D15 (Spain is hot) and the 5900X because of the single core performance for FL Studio. I don't really know if Ableton works the same way but 5950X is also a beast for content creation.

The GPU audio premise looks interesting. I wonder if any soft synth producers will follow suit. It would be great to have a kontakt compatible synth running on the GPU. Also I wonder how much apple side would benefit from this. M1 Max & Pro with the graphic cores. They are not utilised by soft synths right ?
Thank you for sharing bro i like your video and a beautiful studio
Would it be possible for you to run LatencyMon to check the DPC latency on your PC? Low DPC latencies are important to avoid stuttering and interruptions in the playback of video and audio. It's an issue many people have, because certain key drivers are not optimized with DPC in mind (eg. graphics, wifi) and can cause issues when playing real-time audio in the DAW, even when the CPU is not under load.
@sankyoFt

Muy pocos hablan de este problema de latencia. Conoces alguna configuracion (procesador - tarjeta madre) que funcione bien sin problrmas de latencia DPC ??
Great video. I will say a 3080 will be out of most people’s budget, so if your goal is gaming and music production, don’t overlook AMD graphics. I don’t think the green tax is worth it unless you’re planning on doing video production or live steaming and you need that nvenc encoding.

Although I own a MacBook Pro, I've always used custom-built PCs for music production, because of the price/performance ratio. I'm still running an i7 PC that I had built for me (I used to build my own) in 2016 for about $3400. It's still a screamer and would probably leave a similarly-priced Mac in dust. I love the simplicity of the single-vendor Mac world, but when it comes to bang for the buck, a custom-built PC has my vote.

I'm curious about 2 pc builds i've seen - The Scan 3XS Ryzen 7700 / 7900 as they are able to be passively cooled so provide silent operation.
for your Ableton benchmark you should have showed us the audio settings. Specifically Audio Rate and Buffer Size. Bigger buffer size means lower CPU usage. By default Ableton's buffer size is 512. Bring that down to 32 and rerun the benchmark. Now, if you stay only in the box you don't really care that much but if you throw some live instruments coupled with VSTs you want a low buffer. So how about you rerun your tests with the lowest buffer size your sound card supports and let us know how the PC is doing? My hunch is that you won't get past 30 tracks. Heck, even 20 will be much once you load a few instances of Omnisphere or Diva.
second pc build i seen on youtube using 64gb of ram here i was thinking 16 would stil do the job

So not only do I remember Circuit City, but also I intended Logic to be my first DAW until Emagic was bought by Apple and became a wholly subsidiary. I need to reinstall GPU Audio’s stuff but I was very impressed with the concept. As I’ve said elsewhere, this is especially helpful for laptops as the CPUs there aren’t as powerful, making the graphic cards powerful by comparison. Thus, this can extend the working life as well as the capabilities of a laptop.
