    Nice, simple content, especially for someone like me who is just starting out from scratch. Thanks. Noting that Garage Band is only "free" if you already have an Apple computer.

    You should look into a pair of Beyerdyanmic DT-150 (250ohm I suppose) -- the cup size is very large and isolates outside noise naturally. Very comfortable and for non-production purposes you can move the drivers around your ears to get the best "sound stage", assuming you've got small-ish ears. $200 is a big ask but they last quite a long time. I have a pair I need to retire soon (bought in 2008 (so 16 years, ~$13 a year)) because my long hair eventually got into the driver of one, wasn't taking care of the phones like I should have. Of course DT-150s are classic monitoring phones for being on the floor and doing overdubs, for yonks. See them in old documentaries about Pink Floyd & others doing their recordings and such. It's a very recognizable set of cans. I'm not sure about Beyerdynamic's other offerings, I hear good things... DT-150 holds a special place in my heart just for casual listening, gaming, & multi-media. All your other things were good options. There are fake SM57s out there, looking for a different sound around the same price point, Lewitt LCT 240 is interesting. Cheers.

    I've never got to try a pair of DT-150s, but a close friend of mine had a pair of the DT-770s and I absolutely LOVED them. The comfort alone was insane not to mention the driver quality. Definitely worth the extra coin if you have got it. Thanks so much for watching the video man! I love to hear what other gear everybody is using!

    I suppose it's hard to NOT start with a DAW in 2024, but I had to go a different direction. When I got back into music last year after a 20-year break, I went the hardware route with the Tascam DP-24sd. Gives me an excuse to collect a bunch of classic rack hardware, too. :)

    Haha, I TRY to avoid buying more hardware if I can (rarely works). Gear collecting is an all consuming fire lol.

    Why with the speakers with both brands you said the 5 or 8 size. Is there a reason not to recomend the 7 ? Also i want to get an audio interface for recording acoustic and electronic drumsets. What would you recomend ?

  • @Samwimer

    @Samwimer

    Hey Jonathan! I recommended those sizes since they are the only ones I have actually used myself. I'm sure the 7's are just as good! For your interface, make sure you have the right inputs! If you have an acoustic kit you really need to figure out how you are going to mic that bad boy. Like if you are micing the whole kit you probably have 5-10 mics running and need an interface with that many inputs. Or you might be micing the kit with just 2 overheads! I'm not sure what your specific setup is. For an electric kit just check your outputs and choose from there. I know my brother's electric kit has two 1/4-inch outputs OR a USB output that can be routed to MIDI. So think about your set-up ahead of time and find some options that fit your goals. Also, check out getting gear from sweetwater.com I'm not affiliated or sponsored with them at all, but they have really good customer service and I'm pretty sure you could get somebody on the phone and they could make some great recommendations as well! Hope this helps!

    M50x being the "studio standard" explains the amount shit coming out of Nashville lately.

    @@znoozaros It's just the fact these things aren't really "studio monitors" because they're not neutral enough to be. They're bass boosted pleasure cans that have "studio monitors" labeled to them for marketing. Hell, they're not even the best in the M#0x line for monitoring. 40x, 60x, 70x are all better for this. To think this guy is an audio engineer, and that all of Nashville are using these things is actually funny as shit.

    M50x always gets hate. But it’s excellent. And used by many musicians. Not just Nashville. Even pop artists use it for recording.. it’s great. But if you don’t like it use another. Your creativity is more important. Equipment is just that. I had mine for 10 years. Still great.

  • @TheFIghtin

    @@jotjotzzz5357 It gets hate because it's labeled as something its not. It gets hate because the supposed inferior headphones in it's own line up are better than it. It gets hate because the Yamaha rebrand is built better. The M50x is a decent pleasure can in the $100-200 price range. Nothing more, nothing less. It gets hate when you have people like this inexperienced dude recommending it when there's actual legitimate monitors that are better for the job at half the price. I really hate to be so frank on this, but in order to get good music you need good equipment. The M50x is not at the professional level. Period. I've had the M50x for probably about 7 years. Brand new it was a decent enough headphone to kick back and relax to. But my repertoire of headphones advanced past it, with both high end sets, modified sets, and cheaper but better sounding sets. It's been stuff in a drawer somewhere for the past 6 1/2 years. To the point if it ever comes out of the drawer it probably will just get tossed. They are absolutely the best starting headphone anyone can get, because you just don't know what you're missing with better equipment until you hear it. Hint- Get a M60x. It's the same drivers as the M50, yet somehow worlds better.
