Hi i have a ps4 white light problem and need advice. So i traded a faulty xbox one original for a supposed faulty ps4 original from a person that fixes consoles that wanted the Xbox for spares. So on the day i got home with the ps4 i used my ps3 cables to power it on and it miraculously powered on which surprised me as the controller was connected properly using the usb cable. But i saw the screen flash black then back to the home screen which i didn't know what is was then it did it once more and was displaying perfectly. After about 5 mins of waiting for it too show some errors or switching off because i did not expect it to work i plugged in my usb speakers to the other usb port on the front while the controller was plugged in. That was when the screen went black instantly. I didn't know what happened and pressed the eject button and a copy of GTA 5 came out which means the console was still powered on. When i plug the controller and speakers in on my ps3 super slim at the same time is says too many devices drawing power something like that. So i think it drew too much power on the ps4 and caused a wlod on the ps4. Im trying to do a home repair with minimal tools and if you could give me some idea of what the usb ports could have shorted eg a transistor or fuses or something. It still powers on and everything but that was the defining factor i think that contributed to the white light of death. Any recommendations would help as ive watched a lot of KZread videos and most are the ic chip or some transistor . Its a original ps4 with wlod

IF you have fuse situations like this, you should make a 3A circuit breaker like I have. Alligator clips on each side. Connect on the fuse and if it trips, you've got your answer with no loss.

PSU fuses blowing is most likely a shorted diode in the rectifier. Look for the 4 diodes together and test them.

It looks like the rectifier on this board is a single package jobbie. Marked as BD1 on the board, perpendicular to the common mode choke, directly opposite the mains in jack.

About the power supplies, I'll record a video on my business YT channel and will comment it again so that you can watch. They are quite simple, but you have to be REALLY careful and understand how they work.

What pleases me most about this is that what you describe as 'mint' is how my mate's PS4 is now working after I did a good clean and noisy fan fix !

Bridge rectifier is short. Mains fuse blown on PSU = bridge or chopper fet

i have a question i have a switch that works perfect when joy-con are connected to the console. but disconnect only while playing smm2 only on this game. half way playing they will stop working so i have to take them off and re-connect then they work again. only on that game all other game are perfect? odd i know any ideas

I picked up a £20 PS4 Slim that didnt turn on from FB last week. Turned out the power button ribbon cable had come loose. I was also hoping for a lower FW version but it was fairly up to date :(

I wish exploitable ps4's was still a way to go here in the US. I had a extremely low firmware ps4, 2. something, on evilbay for months at $200, and it was in beautiful condition. I eventually just took it off, updates it, and sold it for $150.

Stop blowing fuses!!!! Use a 100W bulb in serial with the main to reduce current. If the bulb lit you have a short. Do not be con-fused.

I think the fuse marking on the board showed a 4A / slow trigger type of fuse .....

Hi Phil, dunno if you can help me with this, or maybe this is a question for a live stream or something. I work abroad as a teacher but have repaired laptops, setup computers, fixed the odd simple console fault such as replacing HDs, power supplies etc. I believe my real interest is in e-waste and making money from it. You say that you have family members/friends involved in the scrap trade, what kind of scrap is it, is it the drive around in a van collecting any sort of scrap or is it e-waste?
