My ex-inlaws work for a major airline, and they were always “finding” things from people's luggage such as cameras, PlayStations, and Diamond rings worth $20k. My advice is if it's valuable keep it by your side at all times. I will never trust an airline.

Not true. My fiancé is a TSA officer and they were told the day the pick up a penny that’s been left by passengers is their last day on the job. They make really good money and they have good benefits, so it’s unlikely they want to risk losing their jobs over some people’s craps.

Flying home from a friend’s wedding, my bag was “lost” in St Luis during a change over. I say “lost” because after a week my bag did make it back to me- with all of my belongings picked through and many pieces of my jewelry missing. I ALWAYS pack valuable (read “I don’t want to loose it) items with me in my carry on, but I had been in a rush and super tired after the wedding that I forgot that one time. Never again. They stole the jewelry set she gave me for being her maid of honor, my Pandora bracelet, and a ton of my other costume jewelry 😭 The airline said it must have “fallen out in transit.” Yes, it fell out of the gift box, out of the bag INSIDE my suitcase THEN fallen out of my completely zipped suitcase. No reimbursement since my Bag was technically returned. I was 💯 SOL. I’m still mad when I think about it 😤 Fell out indeed. Super fun video though! I never knew a place like this existed for truly lost luggage! So cool! 😄

When packing items like that people say to take a pic of your luggage with the items inside it, so you can use it later to either sue or for insurance. So you can say to them well I keep a photo record of what I pack and you lost it, so either pay me their value worth or I'll sue you for more.

I was once in a short flight where most passengers did not carry any luggage but I did. And when I got to baggage claim, I saw this girl taking off with my Samsonite suitcase. I used to work at a museum, and of course we had a lost and found. We would keep items tagged for 1 month for visitors to come back and claim them and then after that the museum would sell any items they could and that money would go back to the museum and everything else was donated or actually used in some of the more creative exhibits. The vast majority of items lost were cameras and phones and glasses. I would say about 40% of people who lost something actually came back for it, but the others either assumed it was stolen or were from out of town and just let it go or filed their insurance claims.

No response, I called, nothing they could tell us. So me and my mum drive down to the airport and someone checked a room out with us where there are all found luggage and bags. My luggage has been for the 2 weeks. It was found 1 day after we went home, but we weren't called at all and when I called initially, it was also already there. It had a tag that marked when it arrived and my luggage tag was still on it with ALL of my information. Luckily everything was in there!

I love the idea of donated wedding dresses being sold for proceeds to help other women! We have a community closet here in my rural area, where anyone can get clothes. There are no set prices, people can just pay what they can afford even if it's 0. Unfortunately, the community closet is going to the referral system now because too many dishonest people have shopped there. Some being so trifling that they've taken nice items free and resold on FB! 🤬 So now, the only people that can shop there are ones referred by government agencies. That really bites because the people that REALLY need things are the working poor who make "too much" money for govt help or are trying to make it without a hand out.

My carry-on had to be gate checked due to lack of room. They mistagged it with someone else’s name, so it got lost. I followed it online as it went across the country-twice. It was several days before I got it back, but everything was there. The feeling of your stuff traveling out of your control sucks, even if there just things, they’re yours. This video was JUST what I needed. 😊 Advice, check your baggage claim ticket before boarding, no matter how rushed you feel. Make sure that small print has your name and final dest city. The baggage handlers check the barcode and the final destination city. Your name and description are secondary to them.

Hi Hope! As someone who works for my city's police department and arranges abandoned property auctions (no, seriously, I'm that lady), I can tell you that a large number of the items from these auctions come from the inside of cars that were impounded, processed, and never claimed from the police impound lot. After 60 days, this stuff becomes the property of the police department and we hold an auction once or twice per year to sell off all of these things, even the cars they came in (if the car is worth more than $750, otherwise it goes to the junkyard). We get some of the craziest stuff that's never picked up, including weapons and laptops. Just thought you might like to know! Great video!

I was a flight attendant for 4 years and someone took my crew bag off of them plane with them- and did not leave a bag behind so I wasn’t sure if it was a mistake or not. I had to get sent home from work, I cried for 2 days because it had my whole life in it: my car keys, house keys, passport, wallet, iPad, Nintendo switch, a hat from my mom, etc. all I had was my crew ID, and luckily my phone that had been in my pocket. Then delta called me and said they had my bag, I burst into tears and ran to work to get it, terrified it had been dumped and all my belongings would be gone. EVERYTHING was inside. In fact they hadn’t even moved my lunch out of the front pocket to reveal all my valuables. It must have been a real mistake, but man did I advocate for fixing the locked bins for crew members after that (my bag had been in the locked bin but it did not work).

Coming from someone that worked in baggage for many years for a major airline. This particular major airline, has cameras everywhere with crazy zooming capabilities, also they actually pay us pretty well and would be absolutely asinine to take $20 and lose your job. Because that is automatic termination no questions ask, just leave. We would "rifle" through your bag only if you do not have any information printed somewhere on it. Then we have to catalog what is inside and enter it into our system to wait for a claim to come through matching those items. The baggage office will hold on to you bags for 5 days max, except for one major hub I won't mention. They may hold it a little longer. All bags not claimed go to Alabama, where they will hold it for 90 additional days, while we search for the owner or wait for the owner to make a claim that matches our cataloged file. If not wellllll....you all now know what happens next. Most thefts are not from the actual employees of the airlines. It's usually from the employees of the airport itself, subcontractors, TSA 🤷🏾‍♀️ sorry to say it, or the cleaners. We do allllll we can to reunite you with your baggage, we have an entire office of about 300 people where their only job is to reunite people with their bags.

Okay- that lost or mishandled thing brought back memories! We were coming home from Florida and it was around one am. We go to baggage claim, only to find out that my sisters bag (which we stored all of our dirty clothes in) got dragged across the landing area after landing. The bag was totally destroyed (we did get money to get a new one) and maybe 1/3 of our clothes, which we had to pick through the next morning to see what was destroyed. Lucky me and my sister were both young, so we didn’t have really expensive clothes and we were growing out of stuff pretty fast. It was a crazy experience, though.

My daughter and son-in-law went on a ski trip out west a couple of years ago. He had a very nice brand new set of hard side luggage and some really nice sweaters, pants, shoes, etc. Several were gifts and most were brand new for the trip. One piece was “lost”. The luggage tracker from this particular airline said the bag arrived in ATL with everything else, but it never showed up on the carousel. They went through all the standard processes at the airport and waited for them to call when it finally popped up. It didn’t. The airline backtracked and said it had not made it to the destination even though the tracker said all of his bags arrived on time. It took about a year and a lot of drama for my SIL to get the airline to come even close to reimbursing him. They had to come up with all kinds of documentation and craziness. I have wondered if it ended up in the unclaimed store. More than likely, though, it just went home with an employee who saw a really nice brand new suitcase with some brand new designer clothes that still had tags.
